While the release of 1.14 is nearly at hand (Yes, really!) here are some new screenshots of Rafal Bursig's SDL client. This client is going to take a bit longer before it's released. But still...

This is a screenshot of the research dialog with the research goal and the current research listed above.

This is a screenshot the next Technology Selection Dialog

Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

At the moment I would put it more as an alternative to Civ2 MP. Freeciv certainly beats PTW on MP but Civ3 still stands head and shoulders above Freeciv in the GFX/SFX at the moment.

But who knows what the future might bring...

The SDLclient is listed on the project page here (but nothing to download yet):

The SDL client isn't ready for release yet. It certainly won't come out before 1.14 is finished. Only the braves, that's developers or savy users who manage to compile it on their own (not easy) get to play with it.

That would be the development for a native Windows client. It actually was running quite well after a year. The SDL client actually started this year. Impressive progress I have to say.

                        Holy Moly Hexagons!

                        Special bulletin!

This truly is a first in Civ history : Freeciv now is the only civ that also supports hexagons. I've just tested it in the windows client and it works.

                            SG,

The link for 1.13 and the 1.14-beta3 can be found here. 1.13 is advised if you want to play regular MP games. If you want to multiplay with the beta other players also need to use that version. Personally I prefer to experiment and learn the ropes with the beta's in SP and play with the new features without going flat on my face

Well, 1.14 is out now and the windows binaries (with sounds) also have been posted for download at:

If you want to use your Civ2 graphics you'll also need the Civ2gfx utility to convert them to the Freeciv format.
