  • It's been awhile....

For those interested in MP. The 4th beta for FC 2.0 has been released. Give it a try and tell me what you think.

    P.S
If you want a full manual just click on "civmanual" in the freeciv directory. It will create a set of html pages of all the options and commands.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

If anyone here has tried the new FC beta. What's your opinion? What do you think?

          • ok my notes.

            1. Graphics are very poor compared to commercial verisons of civ, i guess they good fro free.

            2. i liked the worklist to do build cues in, but whenever the last item in the worklist was a wonder it would tell me the worklis empty.

            3. closing some game windows caused fee civ to g ot oback ground and brought forward the internet explorer window

            4. didnt see the enemy land on my shores and so lost citys to them before i knew they had attacked, would like to see enemy moves,

gave up game after 15 minutes so no more indpeth to tell

The ingame graphics depend on the tileset one uses. The basic ones like Trident and IsoTrident (with roots dating back to the Amiga era) aren't very good nowadays.

I'm doing some work on that front however.

Hmmm, I'll make a note of that.

What version did you try out? The Win32 client or GTK2 one? The message windows can be turned off btw.

              4. didnt see the enemy land on my shores and so lost citys to them before i knew they had attacked, would like to see enemy moves,
That's Fog of War. It's turned on by default. If you have no units nearby with a good vision range they can sneak up on you. The best way is to build an AWAC and keep it patrolling the skies (but that's far... FAR into the techtree).

Keeping a few ships on sea patrol and building a few watchtowers (they increase vision range for units in them). Also help.

gave up game after 15 minutes so no more indpeth to tell
              Thanks for the feedback.

                    • Rasputin,

If you use WinXP you can also use the GTK 2.0 version. The interface looks better and has more ingame options.

The ingame graphics can be changed if start up the civclient with the "--tiles xxxxxx" option
