      Population Booms!

As expected, the population of Spain has grown swiftly since the increase in luxuries advailable to all citizens. Demographers put this boom down to people not needing to work as long as they did previously, thereby allowing plently of spare time to raise a family

      Alliance Offers Considered

Premier Case has been impressed by the kind offers of alliance recieved from the British Government (claiming to be speaking for the Germans), and the Mediterenean League.
While he sees great merit in the ML's proposal, it appears that the Anglo-German alliance has more too offer.
The British and German ambassadors are hereby invited to discuss specifics of the proposed alliance.

      • Case...
There is a PM waiting for you...

(Oh and do you have AIM?
If you don't you really should get it, most of the diplomacy was carried out via AIM as both Russia, Italy, the Ottoman Empire and Germany has it, only Grothgar is not using it).

Thanks - I just fixed it
I received and replied to a PM from you a couple of days ago.

I'm going to be away for the next two weeks (I'll be back on the 17th of Feb), and I've asked Winterfritz to fill in for me.
Grothgar and JMarks, I'll work out the 'nitty grity' of the Alliance when I get back. In the meantime you may sail ships through my waters, etc as agreed.

              • Good to see I get a chance to play in the game that inspired me to start the other AoW PBEM... hope I don't foul up things too badly for Spain

As I understand it, Germany, Spain and Britain are allied, Italy and Ottomans are allied, and Russia is on their own. France was crushed because they had no friends. Is that pretty much it?

Oh, and my email is winterfritz_21@yahoo.com for when people need to send me the saved game. Whose turn is it currently?

                    • Sorry guys, but Case told me he has already signed that alliance with Germany and Britain (precise terms to be worked out when he returns.)

However, Spain would gladly consider any trade deals or other agreements that the Mediterranean Alliance proposes.

BTW, does anyone know the name of a major Spanish newspaper, for my turn report?

                        • Correction : Russia is still a proud member of the democratic alliance, and not as falsely claimed by foreign propagandists "on her own". And we shall gladly welcome spain into the alliance.

PS. Concerning the map, russian balkan possessions ought to be connected now... its a little misguided as it is.

                            New Trade Bonds With Spain!
The mediterenean alliance is rumoured to have signed trade deals with Spain regarding a Istanbul-Rome-Madrid Railway line, no more of this is known at this time.
All rumours are denied by the secretery of the foreign ministery.
However the new leadership in Spain is welcomed by the Italian president Henriko and his government.

MAN FLIES FOR FOR FIRST TIME!
At 10.35, on the morning of 17 December, the "Flyer" a contraption of wood, wire and fabric rose from the sand dunes of Kitty Hawk in North Carolina and flew for 12 seconds, piloted by Orville Wright. It covered a distance of 36 metres (120 ft) -- the first controlled, powered flight in history.
Orville and his brother Wilbur, both bicycle makers from Dayton, Ohio, have spent four autumns experimenting with flying machines at Kitty Hawk. The Wright's methodical approach and firm grasp of aeronautical theory sets them apart from many other would-be aviators. In their workshop they have carefully analysed their rivals' experiments and tested their own theories before conducting further trials on the beach.

On 17 December, the brothers made four successful trials, culminating in a 59-second flight before a gust of wind caught the machine and damaged it.
Many European governments are said to be interested in this new technology, but in it's current form the invention is useless to the millitary

Madrid - The Spanish government also knows nothing of the rumoured Madrid-Istanbul railway, and would greatly appreciate more knowledge on the topic from her friends the Italians and Turks.

The Prince-Regent Winterfritz I, who is taking care of the throne for the duration of Case I's holiday in Spanish Guinea, gratefully accepts the congratulations of his fellow European nations on his temporary accession to the post of Spanish leader.
