One CSA Conscript unit is destroyed north of Mobile to allow the landing of reinforcements.



Seeing the Rebel army north of Meridian retreating and destroying the railroad the Federal army takes action and destroys three CSA Conscript units for the loss of two Heavy Artillery.

June 1864

In a repeat of an earlier battle, the riverine ironclad CSS Clinton II sorties out of Arkansas Point and overtakes the gunboat USS Flowers, which is sent to the bottom. Meanwhile, the ironclad CSS Georgia sinks an apparently empty yankee transport at the entrance to Mobile Bay.

Union June 1864

The Federal Army's summer offensive finally gets underway. In the west Springfield Missouri is recaptured from the rebel sponsored Indians.

In Mississippi Meridian is captured and Federal troops troops close in on Mobile and Jackson. Three Heavy Artillery and 3 Conscripts lost for two CSA Conscripts, one Militia unit and four Irregulars. On the rail-road lines to the south and west of Meridian three Rebel Conscript units are caught desperately ripping up the tracks in an attempt to slow the Federal offensive and are captured.



In Tennessee one Conscript is lost and one CSA State Militia unit ripping up tracks is destroyed.

In Virginia Federal troops capture Fredericksburg. Two Militia and two Conscript units are destroyed along with two resulting Irregulars. To the south east of the city three Conscripts and one Volunteer unit are also destroyed. Federal losses are seven Heavy Artillery, four Conscript units and two New York State Militia units.



The capture of Fredericksburg allows the recently landed Army of the Rappahannock to advance on Richmond, the heart of the Confederacy. General Lee leads the defenders in a brave last stand, but the weight of the Norths industrial and manpower might proves irresistible. Ten CSA Conscripts, one State Militia, one Cannon, four Volunteer units, one Cavalry, two Heavy Artillery, two regiments of Hampton's Legion, two Generals and General Lee are either captured or killed. Federal losses are twenty-six (possibly a couple more) Heavy Artillery and eleven Conscript units. Federal losses would have been lighter had it not been for the dogged resistance put up by the Cannon Battery and Hampton's Legion who fought to the death!



Despite the loss of their Capital and their military leader the Rebels appear determined to fight on. It appears the war is now in the end game, but can the Union land the killer blow?

I've been on the road for a few days, so I'll try and play my turn today. I'll see if I can salvage something from this sh*tshow. Richmond was supposed to hold!

It almost did, those Hampton's Legion guys and the Cannon took up all of my Heavy Artillery. Luckily I was able to take the city with enough Infantry left to hold it, though their dogged persistence forced me to take Fredericksburg to allow me to rush in reinforcements.

July 1864

With a year and a half (18 turns) to the end of the game, the Confederacy reels from the loss of it's capital, Richmond. More serious still, is the loss of Robert E. Lee, it's best general. Still the indomitable spirit of the South prevails, and the Confederacy fights on.

In the east, the still considerable rebel army attempts to consolidate it's positions south of Richmond. In the west, Lee's friend Thomas (Stonewall) Jackson seeks to avenge him with a major offensive against the yankee invaders. The Confederate armies in the west had been massed at Jackson to defend the lower Mississippi. Now they take the offensive against the communications of the Yankee armies attacking Mobile. West of Meridian, 3 yankee infantry regiments are routed, and Gen. Thomas is killed in hand-to-hand combat with Stonewall Jackson. Moving east, 4 infantry and one artillery units are destroyed as Jackson retakes Meridian. Prior to moving south against the main yankee army, Jackson sends scouts north, to ensure his rear will be secure. Finding only state militia, the Confederate Army of Mississippi attacks, destroying 6 rgts of Ohio state militia, while losing 2 infantry regiments.

Jackson then orders Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest south, seeking battle with the yankee army attacking Mobile. He surprises the union rearguard and overwhelms it crossing the Tombigbee River. The yankees lose 3 infantry, 7 heavy artillery, and an unnamed general. Confederate losses are 1 rgt of volunteers and 3 of conscripts. Forrest digs in on the river, awaiting the inevitable yankee counter attack. The main union army in the west is now cut off and isolated.

Union July 1864

In the west a CSA Cavalry unit is routed trying to reach the Corinth to Decatur line and near the mouth of the River Pearl a CSN Ironclad is spotted by a USN Frigate on patrol and is subsequently sunk by a USN Warship.

In the eastern theatre the US Army and Navy combine to launch an amphibious attack at Edenton to keep the Rebel army off balance and try and roll up its right flank. West of Edenton two Rebel Volunteer units are destroyed for the loss of two Heavy Artillery. Having broken through the Rebel picket line the new Army of the Roanoke, led by General Meade, strikes south and takes the lightly guarded Goldsboro. One CSA Militia destroyed for the loss of one US Conscript. The four resulting Irregulars are also dealt with later on by reinforcements from the north brought in by train.



Deciding to try and link up with the Army of the Roanoke General McClellan's Army of the Rappahannock advance on Petersburg and find it held by a single Militia unit with more powerful blocking units to the south and west. Deciding to take on the southern force McClellan leads his veteran units into the attack and destroys four Conscript units and a Cannon battery for the loss of one veteran Conscript unit. One Irregular unit is brushed aside to open up the rail-road line south.

On the line south a CSA Cavalry unit is scattered and a CSA Conscript unit is attacked. Before this tenacious unit is annihilated the Federal army looses a total of five Conscript Regiments!



With the way open McClellan sends reinforcements to hold Goldsboro and secure the north south line. He also sends in a probing attack on Raleigh and finds the city held by just one CSA Conscript unit. The city falls for the loss of one Veteran US Conscript. The resulting Irregulars prove a bit harder to deal with but four are destroyed for the loss of four US Conscripts.

Finally the garrison of Norfolk, renamed the Army of the James, strikes west to link up with Petersburg. A Rebel force on a hill overlooking the river James is destroyed. Three CSA Conscripts and three Irregulars in the area are killed or captured for the loss of four Heavy Artillery and three US Conscripts. The garrisons of Yorktown and Williamsburg also sally out to join in the mopping up operations.

Five infiltrating Irregular units in the north east are destroyed for the loss of two Heavy Artillery and a veteran Conscript unit.

July has been one of the bloodiest of the war so far, but the gains made help boost flagging morale in the north. Surely the end is now in sight...surely.

August 1864

The Confederate armies in the east attempts to consolidate defensive positions in North Carolina, while the Union army in southern Alabama abandons it's investment of Mobile, and retreats east into the Florida panhandle. In the meantime, a mixed force of Confederate regular and irregular forces, plus mounted infantry from the Civilized Tribes disperse the yankee blocking force west of Little Rock.

Union August 1864

The three day battle of Mobile takes place to the north of the city. Three CSA Volunteers, two Conscripts, one Militia unit, one CSA Cavalry regiment and three Irregular units are destroyed by troops led by Generals Sherman and Rosecrans and supported by she guns of US Navy warships in Mobile Bay. Two US Conscript regiments were lost in the battle. The city is now in Federal hands.



Around Little Rock the gunboats of the US Riverine force finish their repairs and launch a counter-attack on the Rebel units surrounding the town. One CSA Volunteer unit, two Indian units, two Irregular units and a Rebel General are all captured or destroyed. The first reinforcements from the east reach Little Rock after a long trek from Memphis while another column marches south from Missouri.

In Mississippi and Tennessee federal forces strengthen their positions against any surprise Rebel attacks. In the eastern theatre the Federal Army regroups its forces and strengthens its positions in preparation for its continued offensive.

Battles around Mobile turn table on yankees!

Glorious Confederate forces have trapped Sherman and his army at Mobile. The cat has been caught in the rathole, and the rats are chewing on his tail! Two Iron Brigade units, two regular infantry, and two heavy artillery units have been destroyed, and two yankee ships sunk at the mouth of Mobile Bay.

Meanwhile, on the upper Arkansas River, another yankee gunboat has been brought to her knees by the ironclad W. Clinton II.
