    PS
I agree with McMonkey - Gameplay and 'one more turn' are more important than
rigid historical detail...Finding a good balance between the two is a tough goal!

I've played Frederic the Great and am just about finished playing the TOT version of Bonaparte II. I found FTG to be nicely balanced between realism and good gameplay. Regrettably, IMHO, that is not the case for the download version of BONAPARTE II, either MGE or TOT. You may want to use FTG as a model for your scen and modify movements to reflect the size of your map.

Here is a comparison of FTG, BONAPARTE II and my modified version of BONAPARTE II.

          • Yep, Eger is just fine.

One idea I've had for getting the Polish/relief forces to Vienna on time is replace some road with railroads (named something else, of course). One way to implement this would be to make the RR "suburbs" of Imperial cities and make the graphics accordingly. I tired that (as pictured below) but I don't think I've got it right...

Also, I'm still on the whole "revert to default title" problem again whenever I convert a save game to a scenario. I've already got the leader titles in the rules.txt:

                • Tried out some preliminary events for the Siege of Krakow (if the Turks control Lwow by the time Vienna is supposed to come, they will opt to attack Krakow instead of the Hapsburg capital), and, well, when I tried to play it with said events, things got messed up.

                  Here's what my Report.txt said:
                  @THEN CREATEUNIT found

                  • Well, I found out what was wrong, and fixed it.

Anyway, I did some work on the events and such, mostly on the hypothetical Battle of Krakow (if the Turks hold Lwow by the time they're supposed to march on Vienna, they'll attack Krakow instead).

And here's a graphic - yet another update of the Brandenburg Cuirassier. The main outfit was modified to match the more "Prussian" blue of the infantry and the dragoon, and the helmet was an attempt to match a Brandenburg cuirassier helmet from the Fehrbellin era (when the scenario takes place). Now if only I could get a picture of a full Brandenburg cuirassier from this period...

I've gotten a lot done, but there's still a lot more to do...

To be honest, I haven't been working on this as much as I probably should (in part because I've been playing some other scenarios!) but here's some changes I've made to the scenario:
                        • Adjusted some unit stats, such as the settler and Pasha units (the settler now moves as quickly as infantry and Kara Mustafa can keep up with the cavalry).
                        • Found out an approximate date for the Second Polish-Cossack-Tartar war (when the Ottomans replace Adil Giray with a more anti-Polish Khan for the Crimea).
                        • Added some more Hungarian cities (well, at least one more - Tokay (which belongs to Turkey). There seems to be a shortage of Imperial cities in the long distance between Pressburg and Kosice...)
                        • Got rid of the "plane crash" sound that occurs when the Austrian Frontier unit is destroyed.

Did some playtesting last night, and was wondering just how to stop an AI offensive. My events have the Turks move all their units in the "Vienna area" (encompassing the land around and between Vienna and Buda) toward the Imperial capital every turn while a flag is activated, but deactivate the flag once the Turkish Camp is destroyed. So I decided to play the events, destroy the camp, and then go back to Poland (and not do anything with the German reinforcements.) The AI did not stop its advance; rather, it continued onward to take the city, then marched northward toward Brünn. It took a lot of fighting to lessen that horde...

(Well, at least this means the player can't just destroy the camp with a Hetman or hussar and then leave; he's got to bring a sizable force to the city.)

One thing I'm wondering about is government. As I've mentioned before, ToT (at least to me) seems to have a peculiar habit of eliminating custom titles once a saved game file is converted to a scenario, so I changed Frederick William of Prussia and Leopold I of Austria to "females," for no other reason than so that they could keep their titles. Of course, this means that the "Communist" government (used by the Tsar of the Muscovites and the Emperor of the Imperials) is off limits unless I can find some way to keep custom titles. Monarchy, I believe, while not having the unhappiness-military problem of the Republic (which is negated by the Wawel Hill wonder), nevertheless has a higher corruption rate than said representative government, so that wouldn't do for a "reformed" Commonwealth. That basically leaves Democracy as the last option for government reform, and would seem ideal for such a role given its lack of corruption; however, the fact that two citizens are made unhappy by each military unit, plus the fact that without the UN you can't start or continue a war, hampers this. (I'm thinking about mitigating this by having Sobieski's victory as the Hanging Gardens wonder, and the Duchy of Prussia as Cure for Cancer. I also might try to lessen the bad effects of democracy by having the Abolition of Liberum Veto as the UN or something. I dunno.)

Also, during playtesting I discovered that the Sejm (Leo's Workshop) only upgraded Musketeers to Infantry, and left Pikemen be (though upgrading the production orders). I wonder why this was, and how could it be fixed. Then, looking at Exodus II, I noticed that that scenario had two IDF Infantry units - one to replace the Hagana, and another to replace the Irgun. Perhaps that what I should do in Sobieski, I thought, but what unit slot should it take up? My first thought went to the as-of-yet unused Engineer slot, but then I thought about the Imperial Hungarian, or perhaps the Polish Haiduk unit slot? Since I don't use Haiduks for anything except defense of some of the major cities...

I hope I'm making sense. On another note, is there any way to change the city style of the barbarians? Right now they've got Polish-style cities, but in the game the generally represent two different peoples (the Danish (for the loosely-simulated Scanian War events) and the Cossacks (the barbarian hordes in the Ukraine).) Wondering how to effectively represent both peoples in one city style (and one where you can't differentiate civs by wall status), I mixed up the Western Baroque and Russian city styles and came up with the style below:

                        • Though this would require one set benefiting from walls and the other not, you could make it so that the "with city walls" image represents one and the "without city walls" represents the other.

                          Imperfect at best, though.

Well, that would create a problem - if I leave the Cossack cities unwalled, they'll soon be razed into nothingness, given their small sizes, but if I leave the Swedish homeland cities (the ones that the Danish "barbarians" are most likely to take), it might be too easy for the barbs (or a player who wants to conquer Sweden) to take them. So, for right now, I think I'll try and just give the barbs the extra city style, if that can be done. Of course, right now the Polish style is style # 1 due to the city style bug and all that, but I'm not sure if CivTweak can ensure that the Polish player will stay in a different style when I convert it to a scenario.

And for some eye candy, here's an update of the Hungarian infantry:

                            • Well, I've been having some problems with the Sejm wonder (Leo's Workshop) - I want both the Musketeer and the Pikeman unit to be upgraded to the Infantry unit with Infantry Tactics, and while both production lines get upgraded, only Musketeers are upgraded to Infantry while in the field. I tried to get around this by making an identical Infantry unit where the Haiduk slot was, adding a tech to "upgrade" the Pikeman to said unit, and then ensuring that when you got the Infantry Tactics tech, you got the other tech (which was then taken away.) Now it seems the Sejm won't upgrade anything! Could anyone help me with the unit upgrade thing?

On another note, here's some eye candy - the pedia pic for the Armory (Barracks), from the actual armory at Gdansk (with the later additions (lights and such) removed)...
