seems I caused the vertical lines when I was trying to get rid of the horizontal lines (yes, offset problem thanks HT), which still leaves me with the small horizontal pests.

Ha what a newbie mistake. I did a section by section replacement with the original terrain1.....

I thought I had wiped the goodie huts from the map. I thought wrong.

So I had some spare tiles lying around at around the same spot and one of the borders just happend to overlap into the goddie hut spot. Hence a while line where every goodie hut was.

What are those Korean warships spposed to be? Nice Minas Tirith Graphics, though it lacks one thing, the giant cliff-thingy in the middle (see pics).

          Your wish is my command....

Orthanc, Edoras, Barad-dur, Helm's Deep, Minas Tirith

By the way Arthedain, I've taken your suggestion to use region names to heart. I found that if I use UPPER CASE for the regions and Title case for the cities, it works out pretty well cause the Caps are really big for Civ2.

I have pressed into service a modified version of fairline's TOT warg rider and uruk which I found after going through dozens of pages in the Scifi-fantasy unit thread. (with all the orphan Star Trek units there without a TOT scenario to belong to). Anyway, those two were smaller than his other LOTR units and could be squeezed into the MGE format without rescaling.

Indeed - The Warg rider is a nice unit.

I am looking forward to this one, as your attention to detail
is always precise, and seeing this skill applied to a fantasy
scenario will doubtless lead to great quality.

Progress report: The basic map and tech tree are set up and I'm now putting in the events.

If Isengard were to have a cruise missile unit, would you prefer Saruman to deploy Crebain Flocks or Photon Torpedoes?

One more question, if hobbitcopters rest at an airfield, do they recover their health?

After the battle, the victor is usually damaged. Units can heal as long as they do not move, not even along railroad. They heal at varying rates, depending on their proximity to a friendly city or barracks. Settlers and Engineers, the only units incapable of fortifying, heal while working.

                    6.1 Land Units:
                    1. 100% of total hit points healed every turn in a city with barracks.
                    2. 40% of total hit points healed every turn in a non-barrack city
                    3. 30% of total hit points healed every turn near a city with barracks (i.e. a square 7x7 squares)
                    4. 20% of total hit points healed every turn near a non-barrack city
                    5. 10% of total hit points healed every turn on normal square
                    6. Fortress (3.2b) always adds an extra 10% to the rate (i.e. on a normal square, near a city, or near a city with barracks).

                    6.2 Naval/Aerial Units:
                    1. 20%/20% of total hit points healed every turn in a fortress or a city
                    2. 10%/0% of total hit points healed every turn on normal square
                    3. 100%/100% of total hit points healed every turn in a city with port facility/airport, respectively.
                    4. Airbase and barracks have no effect.
                    5. port facility/airport affects only the city square.

6.3 Healing away from a city or fortress (by skipping that unit's turn) occurs immediately, before the next unit is available for an order. Barracks healing occurs at the end of the player's turn.
In a dim memory, I recall the same thing. 10% per turn is likely, possibly 20%.

                    Thanks for the progress report!

I've checked the ultimate resource, the Civ2 MGE Manual

page 86 to be exact. Helicopters need to be in a city, airbase or carrier or they will continuously be slightly more damaged each turn. So I will put campsites along the route to Emyn Muil for the little critters to recover.

boco, thanks for the healng info - which is useful in itself. No preferences on the fireball or ravens question?

Hmm to be honest I am not that sure about giving Saruman "missiles". In the end it probably depends if you want to stay true to the concept of wizards as shown in the book or creating your very own version. In the former case I would use Dunlendings as expendable "missiles" to use against Rohan created every once in a while by event. If you want to simulate Saruman's sorcery you should use "Lightnings" or "Fireballs" since the Crebain were little more than scouts.

Concerning the Hobbit-Helicopters ^^ it fits perfectly to the story where Frodo becomes more and more exhausted in every imaginable aspect of this word as the jurney continues with only brief periods of rest (Rivendell, Lorien, Ithilien,) I'd suggest to use multiple event files in order to set up a timer for Mordor's and Isengard's mobilization.

I agree on heicopter flag on Hobbits.. But how is the actual destroying of the One ring going to happen? Is it even possible for the Hobbit unit to reach mt. doom/barad dur without getting killed? Is it going to get the submarine flag? Does it stack with the helicopter flag? Need info..

Stacking the abilities is no problem but I'm not considering the submarine flag as the hobbits will need to attack trigger units. You are right about the part of the journey after Emyn Muil being physically impossible, but that's only in the master map.

Nikola..and as with all other kobi projects, there will be no event (or any other) file swapping. I would describe my proposed treatment of the quest part of the scenario in detail but I don't want to give a spoiler at this moment.

Its not going to be exact like the FF ROTK but more detailed than the HT LOTR so lets just hope its acceptable to most of you. I'll try to put in as much as is practical.

If you were making this in ToT - You could use the 'invisible' unit flag...!
