Guys.. I don't want to play in this PBEM if there's not going to be some consensus about historical accuracy and roleplaying (to some extent). Russia claiming the whole Swedish Empire just proves this will be a mindless civ2 engine game.
A good point. Having an element of roleplaying would add a bit flavour to the PBEM. If we are to go down this route it does not mean you cannot change history. ie. France doesn't have to invade Spain, but try to bear in mind each civ's historic foreign policy aims for time (As Britain, I'm fully expecting Boney to try to set up a guillotine in Piccadilly )

Just a thought about Russia trying to take Sweden.. in a some ways it isn't too far fetched since I could foresee Russia wanting to turn the Baltic into a Russian lake. Plus given the limited game engine, Dario could present it as making Sweden a Russian puppet in the same way the Cisalpine Republic (Milan) is a French puppet for example.

Besides what's stopping you and Austria threatening war if he moves on Stockholm?

Been thinking.. Wasn't Sweden allied with France (the Bernadotte family was very French influenced)? Not sure, correct me if I'm wrong. I'll play the turn now, sorry.

(Been researching Frederik William III and I based my decision on that)

Prussia offers no objection to Russia to conquering Sweden, but we do ask that Göteborg will be left outside the Russian Empire. I think this is a reasonable request and hopefully we can build our relations from this.

I do know that Austria and Prussia have had their disagreements before, but we want to foster friendship between our nations, as we have left the days of squabbling miniature states behind us and can act in a civilised fashion.

The first Bernadotte was born French (Charles XIV John of Sweden) but at this point the monarch was Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden of the House of Holstein-Gottorp (Which the Bernadotte's replaced in 1818). Gustav was very anti-French and joined the Third Coalition when it was formed. In actual fact the shared hatred of France made Russia and Sweden unlikely allies until 1808 when Tsar Alexander, after making peace with Napoleon, invaded Finnland, citing Sweden's refusal to join the continental system as the reason.

Le Empereur at this time lays claim to the cities of Hamburg and Frankfurt as new intended additions to his empire, and expects no opposition to this by the Austrian Empire or Kingdom of Prussia. French forces have already begun laying siege. We extend the hand of friendship to the fledgeling nation of the United States beyond our sale of the Louisiana Territory (watch for a PM soon). We intend to defend Port-au-Prince against these rebels, and have already suffered losses in this endeavor (for some reason, Haitian Rebels have a high defence).

                            2 French Cavalry lost
                            1 French Artillery lost

The Prussian Empire will not allow Hamburg to fall under French hands! If Russia wants influence in the Baltic, we urge them to help us oppose the French in this endeavor.
