  • Hoch-Meister is german, but people will prefer Grand Master...

The correct term would be "High Master"(HochMeister), 'cause I read that the other one (Großmeister=GrandMaster) wasn't used in Teutonic Order ...
"Dilexi iustitiam, odivi iniquitatem, propterea morior in exilio" [PAPA GREGORIUS VII +1085] - ("He amado la justicia, he odiado la iniquidad, por eso muero en exilio") - ("I loved justice, I hated unfairness, that's why I die in exile") - (J'ai aimé la justice, j'ai détesté l'iniquité, c'est pourquoi je meurs en exil") - ("Ich liebte Gerechtigkeit und hasste Ungerechtigkeit, deshalb sterbe ich im Exil")

    • Gagliuodo got it, I believe. Say you were doing an American Civil War scenario.

      You'd want a Robert E. Lee unit.
But for most Confederate generals, even the big guys, have a standard "CSA General" unit. Not a unique individual unit for each and every major general, only a unique unit for the Really Special guys and a "A general" for anyone who, while important, was not quite special enough to deserve their own unit.
Its based on the same reasoning that I don't see the point to "(Country) Spearmen". Have a generic "Spearemen" unit and "Order spearmen" or "Russian spearment" or whatever if you have something special that's better (or worse, if you want) than a standard "spearman".

Not necessarily bad to have each area getting a unique "Special Leader/King/General"...just not every individual being represented as his own unit.

      Hope this makes sense.

P.S. Use the real title, whether in German or English. Anyone who really wants to play this will appreciate the effort, even if it comes off as a little surprising.

        • So, has anything happened of interest/importance between the last post on the subject and the bump, or has Von Bert wandered off?

          • Hello !
nahh.. im here.. just after some months of intense civ2 thinking.. i had my mind "resting" for a while..
            playing some other games, etc..
and feeling a bit guilty for not working on the "teutonic"..
so.. nothing done, and waiting to catch a new "civ-wave" to go on..
had just made a little 4-days tour in south france..wanderful land of Templar knights.. keeps and abbey..
but im not gonna change the scenario to the templars..

            see u !

            • Good to hear from you VB

Has the PC gone into meltdown yet? Its getting quite warm in Britain too but I think we can cope

There was even an earthquake yesterday (a little one). Global warming should mean that I can plant a vineyard in my back garden soon

Anyway, hows the game progressing? What do you need to get it kick started?

                • Thanks Gagli..

WERD: PC meltdown? ah.. im not far from it..
now i got 1-2 hours of gaming time.. then it re-start itself or simply crash..
What i need ?? some more "brain" and an inspiration-day to create a decent tech tree.. then testing will be possible..

But tonight i think i ll give priority to the new scenatio i just downloaded "frederick the great".. so..
"Ubi maior minor cessat" ..and im the minor..

                  • Frederick is a very good and a very hard scenario. It has inspired me to try and make my WWII project much harder!

                    • How much technology is relevant to this scenario, anyway? Not counting tech-as-events stuff.

                      • hello,
thanks to ask, i've been playing less with civ lately, and lost a bit of the energy for civ2.. but i do not despair to catch another "wave of interest" ..

Technology ? well, covering 3 centuries, it had to give certain options to the players, as a common civ-scenario , in that time there were some important events...from monks school to university, evolution of labour in agricolture, printing, trade (hansa), and obviously military, with the discovery of handguns...and many more..
so.. in the original idea it had to be a "full-medieval-tech tree"..such as in a MOD.. and sure as you say, also with some tech-event.. to fire up some historical event..
