      • You mean Babylon and not Egypt, right?

Also Assyria has nothing we want in terms of technologies or gold as of now, we hope for a good relationship with our Persian, Hittite and Babylonian neighbours.

Dario I had played the turn already, so I'll make peace next turn. It's not too important anyway, since only the AI declared war, not me.

        Assyria: Hut, horsemen.
        Egypt: Hut, early chariot.

          • Knossos grows to size 2. Skirmishers attack a village of barbarians encamped on the sacred isle. They plunder the hovels and find a hoard of 50g. Where do barbarians get such wealth? Their women and children are spared but must serve the great Minoan peoples for all generations.

            • Welcome to the 3300's!

Hittites: Our unfortunate band of skirmishers was ambushed by wild red-faced horsemen from a 3400BC hut, but somehow survived. Next hut = 50g.

              Babylon: Hut = E.Chariot.

              • Assyria: A hut yields yet another regiment of horsemen near a place known to its inhabitants as Egypt. We hope to soon establish contact with the Egyptian king.

                Egypt: Popped a hut, pictographs.

We should settle some more rules eventually:

                        1) How do players end an alliance ? (using F3 causes teleporting... using civ2dip does not).

                        2) Do we allow Royal Envoys to bribe other units ? cities ? [I think unit-bribing should be OK... not sure about city bribing] Opinions?

Do we want a rule about diplomacy between two civs controlled by one player ? For example, no deals allowed between Hittites and Babylon? IMO this would prevent minor abuses and give Straybow an even chance.

Also, it seems that ISeeAll is not coming back soon. I will try to email him, but I hope Eurisko doesn't mind playing Egypt indefinitely.

                        • We are playing in .hot mode, I don't think that civdip will work.

Also, I don't mind playing the Egyptians. As a matter of fact, less players at the beginning of this PBEM speeds things up. However, we should find players as soon as our borders start clashing.

And I think deals between two nations controlled by the same player should be allowed, but they should be posted openly so that others may, if necessary, object.

                          Assyria:

An extatic Sargon who was radiating with joy could be seen prancing about the imperial palace in Nineveh. Several scholars and priests could not resist any longer and interrupted his joyous chants of "This is it! I have found enlightenment! The gods have laid bare their designs on man!" to ask him why he was so euphoric.

"Oh brothers and sisters", Sargon began, "in my sleep the gods have upon me bestowed a most holy mission, one that eclipses everything else in its importance."

The crowd which had by now assembled around Sargon was rather fazed by this statement. A scholar stepped forward and asked Sargon what that mission might be.

"Oh brother, the mission that from now on the Assyrian empire shall strive to accomplish is the Greater Good."

Whispers went through the crowd upon hearing this. The Greater Good? What on earth could that be? The crowd fell silent, anticipating Sargon's explanation.

"See, brothers and sisters," Sargon began to explain, "we live in truly horrid times. Man is fighting his brothers and his neighbours for stretches of land and pieces of metal. Generations upon generations have been wasted to fulfill only selfish desires of despots. I think we all agree when I say that this can no longer go on. Therefore, the Gods have bestowed upon me the mission to strive for the Greater Good, which dictates that man must put the needs of the group before his own. Only then can lasting peace return to the realm of man."

Silence. Not a single word was uttered, one could hear the stray dogs in the streets of Nineveh howl.

"But of course, there are barbarians who would resist such a noble cause. To them we cannot show mercy or compassion, as their destruction will ultimately bring with it enough good to outweigh our evil deeds. It must be so. All mankind must be united under the banner of Assyria, for that the Greater Good may lead man into a golden era of peace and prosperity."

The crowd burst out into wild cheers and chants of "For the Greater Good!" were soon resounding in the halls of Sargon's palace.

"Now then, brothers and sisters, go forth and spread the word. Scholars, scribes, priests, merchants and of course soldiers. You will each play your part in the unstoppable machinery which will eventually, without fail, bring along the Greater Good. We are strong and our cause is just. We shall prevail. For the Greater Good!"

OOC: I am not declaring war on anybody or anything, I am just giving my nation a more interesting backstory than "The king is pretty greedy."

Assyria's population has reached 100, 000, which makes it #1 in population size.

A group of skirmishers, enthusiastically pursuing their new goal, has defeated a pack of barbarians guarding a small town to bring the settlers the gift of the Greater Good.

Egypt: Popped a hut, barbarians. An early chariot defeated the barbarian horsemen without problems.

unit bribing is ok. but you have to say publically which unit was bribbed. city bribing banned!

well, yes, it's obvious that one player can't be 'indifferent' when playing two civs. one respect to other. at least, enemies they won't be. it's really urgent
                            to get players for.
