btw, wtf is the greater good denis????
You forgot to attach the turn.

Also, the Greater Good is, basically, altruist utilitarianism. The individual gives up his desires, urges and if needed his life for the good of the many.

It is the driving force behind Assyrian expansionism, as global peace can only exist when every individual on the planet has accepted the Greater Good as his guiding principle.

        • Hittites: Hut = writing.

Babs: Contact with Persia! Talks on scouting and science may commence, if the Persians are ready.
          Hut = swordsman

King Mursilus welcomes Sargon's apparently peaceful response about borders, though we are confused about the numbers in his message. Perhaps the Assyrians have discovered mapmaking, and use methods beyond current Hittite abilities.

In general, Mursilus considers that land within about 10 steps of a palace belongs to that King, though we would expect some explicit agreement, refining that idea, once empires have made contact. Scouts often have conflicts, especially without agreements between their leaders, so we welcome talks with other empires.

Likewise, cooperation in science should help both sides, and it is hard to imagine a peacetime reason not to do it. We do not know whether our neighbors have skills beyond our own without talking with them [does Sargon know Hittite skills?].

The Babylonians have similar opinions, of course.

          • Assyria:

We believe that Babylon is as advanced as we are. The Hittites, if memory serves us correctly, only have the plow, which we are currently not interested in, as it would only slow us down.

But please do list the technologies you have if you want to trade and believe that you have something which I don't.

Also, as we said, our inner core borders are the ones we have given you.

Scouting within those borders is regarded as highly hostile activity, and founding cities and the like would be even worse. The integrity of Assyrian border defenses depends on the geography of the borders we have given you, so this will be enforced for the protection of all Assyrian citizens.

Furthermore, the Assyrian empire claims at least 4 port city enclaves in Lebanon. We have already pinned down some of the locations, but they are not final.

In other news, a veteran chariot platoon has brought yet another village under Assyrian control.

            Egypt:

A chariot raids another village in the name of Rameses.

              • Denis - The Hittittes cannot use your map coordinates until we get the Map Making tech (and unless you have that tech, you shouldn't use them either). See page one -

                >Until Map Making: No map trades, no screenshots, no use of map coordinates allowed. But you can say "about 10 squares east of Nineveh".

                • Oh, sorry. That rule must have slipped my mind.

So, let me put it this way:

The northern border is a line going from southwest to northeast, passing through the northern tip of the small mountainrange which the Hittite skirmisher is approaching north of the desert to the west.

The southern border is a line going from southwest to northeast, passing through the middle of the small "u" or "n" shaped river which originates from the Euphrates, close to the two almost adjacent villages to the north of it.

                    • Hittites: hut = 25g

Aged Hittite pre-cartographers nervously pore over the Assyrian claims, fearing that Mursilus will find their report unreasonable. But their gray heads are safe for now. For future reference, Hittites refer to the river NW of Nisibis as the Euphrates. Upriver it branches - the longer branch (running NE) is the Murat. The land thereabouts is mostly plains.

                      Babs: hut = 50g

The Babylonians made contact with Persia last turn and sent a message to the Palace in Ecbatana. No response so far. Until some other agreement can be reached, we ask the Persians to remove their scouts to a distance of at least 10 squares from Ur.

We have not yet been able to completely decipher the Assyrian land claims, since we cannot find their landmarks on our maps. However, there is a barbarian village halfway from Nineveh to Ur, a little west of Ashur, which could form a rough guide to scouts of both nations. Ashur was founded a bit past this midpoint, but a Babylonian city has also been founded a bit offsides. We hope neither outpost will be a source of conflict.

ISeeAll is hoping to return Dec 3 - but I have no details, no promises.

                      • Assyria:

Basically, the southeastern border is a line running from southwest to northeast through Ashur.

Also, we do not understand the Hittites' concerns about our claims. You have all of Anatolia to settle.

PS: Assyria asks all other kingdoms to let us know if our scouting parties are disruptive or not welcome so that we can immediately withdraw them.

                        Popped a hut, advanced tribe.

                        Egypt:

Hut, 25 gold. More barbarians at the gates.

                                Babs: Hut = barbarians

@Sargon: Maybe you didn't understand my last post as I intended it. My Hittite mapmakers are slightly confused about exactly which land you claim in the north, but they get the general idea. Mursilus has made no objection to it. We are a little jealous of Assyrian success with villages and a little disappointed with unenthusiastic Assyrian diplomats, but we do not have any serious problems with Assyria.

The Babylonians now understand your south-eastern claims, but we can not completely accept them. For we believe Ashur is closer to Ur than to Nineveh, and that this situation is reversed with a Babylonian city. A simple straight line border doesn't seem possible. Babylon suggests a private meeting (eg email) to seek an agreement.

@Bostero: I'll check my PM box, but I'm 99% sure it is not full (this seems to be a bug at Apolyton). You have my email address...
