    • Woot!

      Problem solved!

I think the lack of label.txt with your beta zip made the
scenario rely on the version I had on vanilla CIV2 MGE.

But your version fixed the bug.

So packing your label file with the scenario is the answer!

I love it when a bug is flattened!

      • Awesome, I figured that was the problem. Each version probably writes a save or scenario file a little bit differently and uses a labels.txt that conforms only to that version. I'll make sure I include an update labels.txt with the next beta, which should be out around this weekend.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I should add or subtract? I have a decent amount of unit slots open...

        • Ok, here's the next beta, beta 1.1, with some changes as mentioned before. Give it a whack and please give me some input

          EDIT: beta 1.1 obsolete

          • Hmmm, I was thinking. I have one unused terrain tile that I'd like to make into a special tile, like the Giza Pyramids. I was thinking of Stonehenge.

Also, now that I see that the spot of Stonehenge is on a special resource bonus I could actually do with two special terrain tiles. How about Calgary? The tile could appear about the time Christ was crucified. Christianity had a big role in the Roman Empire.

If anyone has any of these, or would like to make them, I'll put them in to the scenario.

            • Harry, as a proud Edmontonian, I can tell you that the reason Jesus wasn't born in Calgary is that they couldn't find three wise men or a virgin. Did you mean Calvary?

                • Anyways, I've added some event language and a "Great Leader" unit for the Romans that will be available in Beta 1.2. The events focus around the rise of Christianity, Pax Romana, and the rise of great leaders for the Romans. Some improvements have also been given prereqs for building and a small tech tree has been created.

                      • I made a few updates today.

-Certain parts of the map are off limits to certain civs, due to historical accuracy and the propensity of the AI to wander. The area east of the Caspian sea, the Caucuses, and Arabia are supposed to be off limits. The Caucus mountain GoTo command failed, so I fixed it.

-Lowered Defense of Carthage 2 unit.

-Made a better border in the alps for the Romans. Attacking too many of the Gaul tribal city units because of interference issues created an unpleasant result when 10 Celts came knocking on my door.

                        -Lowered Great Leader unit attack.

Now, I've been playing on deity, which has been a nice experience for me. Once taking Carthage I had ample gold units at first, but as I took the rest of North Africa I realized that my cities were going into disorder alarmingly quick.

To remedy this I needed to create more units, fast, so I disbanded my gold units in Carthage. Problem was that now I had a boatload of units supported by Carthage and unhappy citizens. So I transported my gold units to Italy where I used them build up my cities in order to be able to support a larger army for occupation. Which, I think, depicts how Rome worked i.e. the spoils of war enriched the empire.

The gold units, which at first I thought were outlandishly over valued turned out to be very much needed during the game. I'm finding that on deity level it is hard to conquer anyone without using the cash garnered from the gold units.

How're things going with everyone else?

                        • Looking good, Harry!

I fixed the blue dots that position the unit shield for the 'great leader' unit.

It must have been set for a village, as the shield was at bottom left.

Still playing, so I will report back with more info...!

This scenario is a good break from creating GFX for the very tricky TARDIS console terrain!

                          • Some odds and sods...

*The 'pax romana' gaul event needs the 'just once' flag added.

*There are typos in the event when the great leader unit is killed.

*The Pyramids wonder have the name 'emperor's palace'...?

*Seems like a ton of wonders still...Perhaps they should be spread out more?

                              I saw that too. Fixed.

Done. Thank you for invading Gaul. How hard was it?

Fixed! The one for Scipio right?

*The Pyramids wonder have the name 'emperor's palace'...?
Oh, no don't pay attention to the icons just yet. I have to do some rearranging. The Pyramids should be called Egyptian Grain and has already been placed in Alexandria.

*Seems like a ton of wonders still...Perhaps they should be spread out more?
Will do. Any ideas if they should be tech tree related or event driven?

I'd vote for mostly tech preqs. That'd force the player to divert resources to building WoW's. Now, receiving the techs could be event driven...
