"You will obey the Daleks or you will be exterminated!"
For a while, I wanted to do something different. A kind of science/fantasy scenario
to escape the lure of WW2 Panzers and Stukas, but could not decide on what exactly...
After watching the BBC's new redux of the classic 'Who' series, my love for the show
had been rekindled. I wanted to do a CIV2 scenario in this setting, and especially
featuring the Time Lord, Doctor Who and his arch-foes, the xenophobic, homicidal Daleks!
Before I go any further, it might be proper to give some background for those poor
souls who have not seen or even heard of this cultural icon of British Sci-fi...
THE DALEKS:
This is a scenario that features the Daleks - Cyborg aliens from the British Sci-Fi
serial called 'Doctor Who'. Mutants, artificially evolved from a dying, warlike race called the
Kaleds, they were programmed as the ultimate war machine - All emotions apart from hate
had been removed, and these squid-like abominations were housed in advanced 'travel-
machines' - small tanks that were outfitted with deadly weapons and super-armour.
Now, from their barren, radioactive planet, Skaro...The Daleks rule a space empire that
spans vast galactic areas. Their original creator, the crippled and evil genius, Davros,
tries to perfect the Dalek design and to unify these cyborgs under his control. But the
Dalek Empire had grown from his alpha-Daleks, a cadre of cyborgs who felt themselves to
be superior to all creatures, even their originator.
To this end, Davros has went back to the drawing board, and created his own Dalek faction,
the Imperials - created from the cells of deceased Human elites, and loyal only to Davros,
These new cyborgs were the perfect arch-rivals to the Skaro Daleks. Civil war promptly
erupted as both factions considered the other to be genetically inferior. The Skaro Daleks
are commanded by the Dalek Prime, who also calls himself the Dalek Emperor...He was the
first specimen that Davros created, so this mutant's grudge match with the megalomaniac
Kaled scientist is personal...
THE DOCTOR:
A renegade extraterrestrial time-traveller, a member of the race known as the Time Lords
from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor has been exiled for breaching the restrictive rules
of the Time Lord society, their creed forbids interfering with the rest of the universe.
The race of the Time Lords is ancient, and has been time-travelling for many ages in space.
They also can cheat death by regenerating, up to twelve times. As such, the Doctor has had
some varied personalities in the past, as each regeneration makes him appear as a slightly
different person. Originally an irascible and highly irritable character, the Doctor was also
shown to be a man of great intelligence and compassion, who abhorred the evil in the universe
and would always help others if he could.
The Time Lord travels in his spacecraft, called the TARDIS.
(Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space), which is dimensionally transcendental
(larger on the inside than on the outside), and seemingly never fully under his control.
The TARDIS originally had the ability to disguise itself according to its environment,
but became "stuck" in the form of a police box after landing in London in 1963,
and has remained in that shape ever since.
The Doctor is (at the current time in the saga) 900 years old, and his race are held in some
awe by other space civilisations. It would appear now that Gallifrey and Skaro have both been
annihilated in a huge war between the Time Lords and the Daleks. But as it is in 'Doctor Who'
not everything is what it appears at first...
There no potential endgame if both can races can change the flow of events in time.
The CIV2 GAME:
The scenario will be playable as four different rival factions, and cover events that
take place in a Dalek invasion of Earth in 1963. This is a campaign that I have made
from Doctor Who storylines, and can be assumed to take place in a specific timeline.
The scenario attempts to combine the most fun aspects of the 'Who' series, with Daleks
and other foes, I am hoping to give players a chance to experience a campaign with all
the fun and challenges facing the factions as they struggle to gain supremacy over their
rivals and to subdue the four map areas. Using Test of Time will give the most options to
create the most workable and best-looking representation of this unique science fantasy.
This is what I hope for, and what I hope to deliver.
