  • We offer You a peace treaty

That's what a civ often says to me.
The problem is that often I HAVE a peacy with this civ.
    What's going on?
Perhaps it has something to do with how the peace was signed - UN stuff and such

It seems like they forget they have it with you, almost like it expires

AI is dumb. It has peace with me, offers me a peace treaty again and in the same turn it attacks me, takes my city and offers me a peace treaty

It's like when they ask you for a tech you have just given them! I shrug and say why not?

Maybe they want to be sure their sneak attack will work.

It would suck to plan on a sneak attack bonus, and then find out you were at war anyways.

In my experience, the AI civs seem to "forget" they have a peace treaty with you once you build Apollo. However, from then through to AC landing, it doesn't seem to matter much whether you have a treaty or not - they steal techs and attack at will.

You should read the Dirty Succession game (not that kind of dirty ) for a masterclass in breaking and resigning treaties.

This kind of behavior does have some parameters to it. It is usually when you are Supreme, with MPE or UN as your "embassy with all". Sometime during a seemingly-random number of turns after you agree to a peace, if you have not had any diplomatic contact with an AI civ, the peace will quietly "expire" into CONTACT and you will have to renew the relationship again. I tend to check each AI civ often and notice this kind of thing regularly. What Solo mentions is another aspect, where you gift a tech to get their Attitude up to Worshipful, then ask for an alliance and they re-ask for the same tech. That seems to be a bug in the diplomatic programming, where the tech gift is not "registered" yet in their list until after the diplomatic session is over. My experience with the lapsing peace issue is not that it is deliberately designed to trigger the "sneak attack" bonus (rather the opposite, which is why they may ask for peace again suddenly before an attack), but instead perhaps a way of trying to balance out the Supreme human by permitting more alliances among the other players. I don't think anyone has nailed down any rules or stats on it though.

I've notice the lapse as well. In fact, sometimes one can see the delay in updating screens as one source of info claims "peace", and another is blank or contact.

I think that the time horizon shrinks -- maybe after industrialization, maybe again after Apollo, but very noticably with the last few techs -- I recall that after Superconductor, the relationship would evaporate in very short order.

Hmmm I wonder if it is tech specific (a test for cheat mode) or a number of techs effect?

Separate question -- could one easily cheat a number of future techs? -- Yeah, I know one per turn, then give back the basics....Hmmmm talk about a handicap! Player starts twenty turns into the game with twenty future techs under the belt. Yup, your former two great cities are now so much dust...go take your settler & conquer!

My experience is that, when the peace treaty expires, the AI will invariably attack ASAP. I don't know whether or not the offer of a peace treaty even changes that.

I play MP games that include the AI.

It's pretty usual thing to have an occurrence like this. It's a bug, one you can live with.

I don'ty like it when they attack me each turn no matter they are at peace with me or not

That's why you should talk with them each turn.

You'll either extort money/techs and cause the withdrawal of their troops, or incite them to declare war. Either way you win and they lose.
