    @fairline

    Thanks for the compliments
    Brilliant with the griffon - didn't even think to research that one myself. I'll include it in v2.1

    @Arthedain

    [SPOILER]

    You can make good money just patrolling christian coasts for monks, especially in the beginning - cities are difficult to protect and you'll often lose your forces too fast if you try to hold on to them before you have good defensive units or walls. (alternatively chiefs can protect important strongholds for some time).

    There are some wonders around that will make this hit'n run tactic easier.

    Another tip : establish embassies to check out which civs has which techs, then strike with full force on the weak coastal cities you spotted while raiding. You can use many rivers to strike deep inside enemy territory, once you take the first cities located on the river mouths (or build your own there).

      True, I also relalised that I didn't have to hold on to cities. I have a new tactic in mind this time.

        It's Anno Dominium 835.

        Denmark is now ruled by a single king and the capital is Hedeby. Here both ships and warriors can heal. Also, in Denmark every city is connected by roads and the southern border expanded to Elisenhof. Itzehoe and Oldenburg has been razed. In the next turn I will be able to build Hammers of the North!

        In the east, Lödöse and Skara has been incorporated and a road from Lund to Lödöse is under construction. Cities around the Baltic has been occupied and improvements sold etc. Some of them were lost after a while though. Cities I still hold on to are Wismar, Stralsund, Arkona and Rügenwalde.

        During the hold time war has been waged against the Frisians and Anglo-Saxons. A permanent base has been established in England, Stamford. Viking chiefs has been raiding the are for many years, not occupying more territory though. Settlers has just arrived and will make the city bigger. Groningen and Utrecht has been occupied in Frisia and an attempt was made to occupy Dorestad (The king-creating event won't let me occupy it, thus getting longer into the river).

        I also had a raid against southern Ireland, some units has been killed and a CHief holds a fortress on a hill there. The war with the Franks ended quickly as we lost Amiens, which was later on razed by the Norweigan vikings.

        So far I'm enjoying this one very much and I will be looking forward to try the Hammer of the North!

        To be continued..

        Edit: btw, tech-rate is going a bit faster because I've built two monasteries. Maybe I should build more..?

            Yeah... with the Defend role of the Kings, the AI tends to fortify them within cities - they do move them around however, so you should be able to take Dorestad, when the king takes refuge some place else. You just have to take note when he's gone, and refrain from destroying him until you have control of their key cities (which will prevent the creation of Frisian kings for good )

            In an earlier build, they had the Attack role, and could easily be lured away (too easily IMO). Maybe I should change them back to being offensive - it was quite commonly the King leading his forces into battle. Or perhaps a middle way - like role 3 - not sure how the AI will respond to that.

            [SPOILER]

            The reason I gave them the defend role, was to make it more difficult to kill them. The Danes and Anglo-Saxons respectively get access to key techs/wonders, if they manage to kill the others king. I wouldn't want that to happen too early in the game. But of course, if the king-regenerating event prevents the capitals from being taken, because the kings hide there like rats, it's something to consider.

            Loved your report, so far.

            Monasteries btw will especially be helpful if you have a couple of abbeys within your city radius... - you might need dungeons as well to alleviate corruption. (which will cancel your raiders though - so be warned).

            @Kobra

            Nice to hear you liked the old version -This one is just as violent, but everything has been given a complete new overhaul. One major sacrifice from the first has been the paradropping vikings... I loved the idea in the first one, but I wanted to implement a more 'realistic' raiding feel to this one, and also make it a tad harder.

              Glad that you liked the report. I will of course play on more soon. I will try to lure the King away from Dorestad then, I've already killed two kings hehe..
              I won't be able to capture more than one city now, because then I'll get Baptism, so I have to take Barbarian cities. Oh well, back to playing.

                    @jasev

                    Thank you! -version 2.1 is strongly underway - it is primarily a graphical and slight rules/events update.

                    @Shaka

                    Try the Danes for a starter. They're in the central focus of the scenario, with great potential in England as well as France.

                    The Norse are slightly tougher to play, but have great opportunity for discovery to the north and colonizing Scandinavia and the east.

                    Both civs have good possibilities for playing out the "raiding" tactics of the scenario - i.e. patrolling for and killing monks for gold, and conquering the right spots for trade and techs.

                    I had a real fun game some time ago as the Franks, being beating around the bush by the Danes as well as the Norse - they quite beat the crap out of me, especially when a fleet of Drakkars began to venture up the Loire river to some of my richest but poorest protected cities.

                    A readme is coming up in v2.1 with some more detail and background info, as well as playing tactics.

                    Sorry for the bad links. Just copy and paste the download links, since poly doesn't like offsite linking (I'll exchange the links on Civfan as soon as possible - to the poly threads instead)
