Btw Curt, did they really play footy in stadia to placate the masses during WWI?
Damn those Gooners Yeah, it was 2-0 to the Arse against Blackpool. They are romping home with the Premiership (a 9-point lead now I think) and are favourites for the Champion's League and the FA Cup

Man U, on the other hand are losing consistently and favourites to win nothing

Sorry for the OT Curt! Are you still looking for a Mk IV BTW, or will you use Nemo's?

            • Say Curt, thats a Chinese infantry in the bottom right hand unit slot right? I'm just curious, could you tell me where I could find the flag you referenced to make his unit shield? I know of afew turn of the century Chinese flags that are similar to that one but over all quite different.

              Just curious!

              • I know for a fact that post WW1 germany had hockey stadiums. And it was a war ravaged economy. So i guess that football stadiums should have been around during WW1.

                • Keegan mentions another legend. At least one regiment kicked off the first wave of the Somme by booting a ball into no-mans-land. That had to be the saddest offensive of the war for the Brits.

They were from the East Surrey Regiment, I think. I remeber seeing an illustration from a Brit newspaper which showed them kicking a pigskin as they crossed no-man's land. It was captioned "The Surreys play the game" or something like that.

You got to admit, those guys must have had a lot of balls.

Especially the Newfoundland regiment's involvement in it. Almost every young man in the colony was killed or wounded in a matter of minutes when the regiment went 'over the top' against intact German defences.

While the Australians missed the worst of the Somme, it's closing stages still managed to squeze in the worst days in Australian history: over 10,000 casualties in two and a half days fighting.

My sympathies on the footy front - such is the cruel hand of fate in the great game!

Yep, if you are up for it, I could use a spiffy fairline MKIV!

                          PS
I have given the Entente and cultural allies the MKIV, which only the Entente can upgrade to a FT17.

I was a fake flag I dreamed up, based on a few imperial Chinese ideas...

                            Just a barb flag really.

                              • The Battle of the Somme was so devastating that Newfoundland was thrust into a terrible recession that took years to emerge from. The loss of nearly an entire generation of young men was too much for the territory to bear at the time.
