Salty, salty...and thank God. The peanuts have been a little stale.

Seriously, according to my reading of these rules this is NOT an OCC game; rather it is a game with only one city, UNTIL...and that is a distinction that can't be ignored.

So, maybe DaveV's statement was a devillishly crafted needle; could it have been??

And really, this game should be fun and a good challenge. Play on!!

Finally remembered to send the D/L to the home comp and will try to play tonight.

Since I'm quite inexperienced at OCC and we're still in (relatively) early stages, any advice re: how to twist the standard OCC How2 toward this game's goals would be welcome.

                  Reign of the Rabbit

The year is 1 AD. The change of the millenium demands new, progressive leadership.

...and yet somehow -Jrabbit is crowned the next king of O Sole Mio. He takes stock...

We have one city of size 5. Faders at 00-70-30 for celebration, netting -2GP/turn, discoveries every 13 turns. Pottery is next. No huts visible.

                  Tech path considerations...
--Philosophy would be great, but only if we're first.
--Astronomy (Cope's) requires Masonry and Math first.
                  --Republic possible after Literacy.
                  --Navigation (Magellan) available after Seafaring/Astro.
                  --Will need Construction (Masonry first).
--Invention would be nice, but requires Wheel and Engineering.

See no reason to change settings. Press ENTER...

020 AD -- Vikings start Oracle. Many Japanese troop movements.
--O Sole Mio builds Hides camel, starts Library.
--Beads (d) to Kyoto, 132 GP.

040 AD -- Library purchased. Decide to cross fingers and wait for pottery completion before next van delivery.

060 AD Library online, dip started. Sliders to 40-30-30.

080 AD -- Russians build Great Wall.
Pottery completed. Masonry not offered. Literacy selected.
--Gems to Kagoshima, 56 GP, +3 route.
--Rate to 30-70-00 (+12 GP, 7 turns) until next delivery.

100 AD -- Diplomat commissioned, caravan started. WTK -- not!

120 AD -- Increments purchased. Trireme heads east along S. Pole.

140 AD -- Chinese start GW. Hides van completed. Sliders to 00-70-30.

160 AD -- WTK, oh yes we do!! OSM now Size 6.
--Hides (d) to Kagoshima, 124 GP.

180 AD -- Hides van completed.
WTK -- NOT, despite the fact that we discover Literacy. Masonry will be next.
Horsie finds hut at 62, 70!!

200 AD -- Japanese expel our diplomat, who decides to try their northern cities as possible embassy sites...
--Hut = Masonry!!! Move to 70-00-30.
--Jap cat spotted heading west along S. Pole.

220 AD -- Vikings build Oracle of Tronheim. Japanese change to GW, English abandon.
--Tokagawa's emissary demands and receives Monarchy, calls us friends but remains in Hostile Peace.
                  --OSM builds more hides.
                  --Philosophy chosen. Fingers crossed.

240 AD -- Another hut spotted by our curious horseman. Increments purchased.

                  260 AD -- Hut yields... Construction!!!!!!! 00-70-30.

280 AD -- WTK. Really we do! Research = 9 turns.

300 AD -- Diplomat establishes embassy at Satsumi. The Japanese are...
--in Despotism, with 848 GP. At war with Chinese. They have 6 cities. Kyoto is capital. Osaka not yet found but presumed part of southern enclave. Among their 13 techs are 3 we might want -- Iron Work, Math, and Wheel. Studying Astronomy.

320 AD -- Japanese learn Astronomy, change from GW to Copernicus' Observatory.
--Hides (D) to Edo, 128 GP. Nearly done, so 40-30-30.

340 AD -- Mongols complete Great Wall at Karakorum. Russians and Chinese abandon.
Camel complete, but Hides repeater gone! Undemanded dye and salt available, but take the Food for a future WoW.
--Great Spanish thinkers articulate various enduring cogitations. Golden Age of Philosophy begins.
--First great thought is of The Republic. Seafaring next.
--Two Hides (d) shipments reach Edo (one by boat), netting 128 GP each.

                  360 AD -- Japanese now a Monarchy.
--Hides (d) to Kagoshima, 132 GP. Move to 50-20-30.
                  --REVOLUTION!

380 AD -- Japanese complete Cope's in Kyoto.
--O Sole Mio turns Republic. -Jrabbit named Consul.
--OSM philosophers posit the art of Seafaring, begin study of Mathematics.
--Aqueduct rushed. Faders slide to 00-70-30.

400 AD -- Aqueduct spigots turned on. Settler started.
--Last shipment of Hides (d) reaches Edo, pays 140 GP.
--Japanese troops make various threatening movements.

Consul -Jrabbit retires and 210,000 O Sole Mioians celebrate. Treasury is fat (578 GP). Growth phase enabled.

                    The Save

Twenty turns netted 7 techs, a bunch of cash, and got us into Republic. I expect the Japs to contact us and demand the Republic shortly. They are Supreme and spoiling for a fight.

                    I'm not unhappy...

After Math, we should have of Astronomy (toward Navigation), The Wheel, and Medicine (among the usual Feud/Poly/etc. 30% Lux is all we need to maintain celebration at present. Our grasslands should get us to Size 12 without too much problem.

Here's the zipped save. Julius is next.

Not that I know much about OCC, but that sounds like some pretty good turns. Lots of tech, lots of deliveries

Astronomy is significant for Cope's, rather than for Navigation, isn't it?

Whether Medicine next/Astronomy next is the question... and will we have enough money to get both Shakes and Copes?

                          -Jrabbit,

Like STYOM said--sounds like a good set of turns, but I don't remember the OCC path very well. What I enjoyed was the nicely done log, I can almost see the game from your words.

And I'm guessing that STYOM is away from his Civ-gear. Otherwise, he would notice that Math is the prerequsite for Navigation. So it is a priority.

                          Good luck.

                              No Copes? (sniff!)

I think that Shake's is more important in any case.

Given the (potential, perhaps expected) changover in 1750, we may want to be ready to pop in Mike's before someone else does -- although hopefully nobody goes down that path.

JRabbit -- some good stuff -- I think that the payoffs were good; but the huts were awesome!
Those with lower expectations face fewer disappointments

I can't remember ever having that kind of hut luck. (Granted, my sample size =2)

Considered racing for Cope's after Philosophy, but the Japanese had been working on various WOWs for some time, and I didn't want to go down the Astro path if I wasn't quite sure of getting the Observatory.

Personally, I think we should be going for Magellan's as our next investment. thus, Navigation asap.

Thanks for the kind words re turnset and log. It was fun to play a sxn where I wasn't expected to micromanage dozens of cities while remembering an arcane set of rules... and the bloodthirsty changeover in 1750 relieves the pressure of being an inexperienced OCCer.

                                Long term, Mike's and Newton's.
