Erm... doesn't bloodlust mean we can't win via spaceship? It strikes me that the best strategy is to knock over LOTS of huts and try to keep the AIs from advancing far enough to be annoying once we can take the gloves off.

You're taking all the "fun" out of OCC...

But yes, spaceship is out, try for Early Conquest by shooting for early Navigation, send out several ShipsN'Dips to buy up NONE military units while beefing up the home production and getting a leg up on military techs. Might be good to build Copernicus in order to deny its effect to any others, but AI does tend to follow your lead in Tax/Sci settings so get ahead on tech and reset to taxes for bribery. Later on bring the scattered NONEs together into a small army to pound cities into dust. Getting Math early and spreading it around to AI civs might give you more opportunities to bribe Catapults, plus thats on the way to Nav and Ast. Iron could be a useful goal as well, on the way to Steam Engine and gives a pretty good offensive/defensive unit to go with the Catapults. If there is significant water (should be on a Giga map) build Lighthouse, Magellans if possible, and SunTzu in addition to Shakes.

Oh I figure that we’ll be seriously challenged -- my guess is that the best strategy will be to lead the technology, but not give everything away; build one or two non-standard OCC Wonders (like Mike’s & JSB); and set the stage for a late game growth of a few cities to support the war materiel.

A second problem will be OCC on a giga map -- trade may be delayed until Navigation.

IF we are lucky & can sail around & meet folks we MIGHT be able to set up a zoo of one or two pets -- I don’t think that elimination before turn 200 will do us much good since the restarts are on. But penning up one or two civs might have value if we can convince the pet to feed us Settlers for purchase -- the None Settlers could then help set up the road work for the delayed empire.

I expect that hut popping will yield supported units due to the expected distances involved.

And where we are after the first 20 turns...

I'm not sure about your plans for tech and bribery.
You aren't actually allowed to capture any foreign cities until 1750 (by which time, restarts won't apply). I don't know if this applies to razing (stolen term from Civ 3, but all the same, reducing to 1 pop and then taking), but even so you'll have to have a decent army of NONs that would be up to the job of taking cities defended by muskies and walls. A vast army of dips would be a better option to ensure that the walls don't get in the way of your troops. It does say that cities may be "acquired" after 1750 so you may as well go all out and just buy a few and then use them to support new units. It may have been a much-argued about strat in Scouserville, but I reckon that Mike's, the Statue and then Fundy is the best way to amass the cash to keep buying cities and units and really take the fight to the AI. Any techs they may have researched over those you have by the time you switch to fundy and effectively turn off research can be simply taken from captured cities. :b

Yes, raze before 1750, option to acquire afterwards.

                Hi guys!!

Based on testing, respawn ends in 1500. You can see for yourself.

My vision sucks, so it took me most of this week to create this post:

I hope folk will not mind a link. (If it breaks, please check the Strat Forum.) Miss the banter and especially not being able to play.

Count me in for this one.
The synthesis of OCC and ICS (better in this order than the other way around)

We have some ICS specialist in the lineup, I fear the worst. If I recall correctly, DaveV once build more than 40 settlers in one turn, all quickly converted into cities. But I don't want to scare anyone (except myself)

Maybe we should try to build it as soon as possible.
It could be sealed in the rules.
Old n Slow, what do you think

Perhaps that it would make the game too hard, but it could be quite a challenge.

I'm all in favor of building Wonders -- but I don't feel that we need to hard wire them into the rules (too much.)
