    • Well at least it was 'only' Six's Torch that went - I feared for Lago as well

        Roger that. Waiting turnlog...

I accomplished one of my goals, partially on my way to another, but I lost a city (as predicted by Scouse Gits) .
Well, at least Lago survived. Looks like we'll be shoring up our Greek perimeter during my turnset.
And, oh yes, he's a canny one, that Git...

I will post the game log, just not sure it will arrive tonight.......here is the save.......
D/L complete, emailing to home comp. May be a bit of delay on this, as She Who Begat SWMBO arrives today for a weeklong visit.
        Fortunately, we get along well.
Unfortunately, she stays in the computer room...

Hoping an oppty will present itself by week's end...

        • Lost my city?????

          Luckily I have a spare.

[thinking]I'm not sure what happens if someone recaptures ST before my turns (assuming it isn't razed! ). Is it 'my' city again, or does it belong to the recapturer? And if the latter, can I take any more cities??[/thinking]

I tend to think the former makes more sense... otherwise we might never win this thing!

/me is somewhat amused that we have lost 2 more cities than usual in this, the only game where rebuilding cities is forbidden.

Can someone remind me of who it was

To me it looks as if a city belongs to whom has captured it. the past is the past, not the present !

You have already captured one city and it has brought us many great things

But of course, that you are the one who imagined the rules and so are the best placed to interprete them.

It could be fun to lose one Succession game, so that we could al have holidays together in the Sticky Mouse institute. Once it is all cleaned up, it will be such a nice place

Thanks, Stu. This "Save" opened as code when I left clicked the link. I got it to work by right clicking, doing a save as to the MPGE folder. Never have seen this behavior before.

                • Probably the browser tried to 'open' the save (with expectable results), as it was alink... right click -> save as forces DL, which is the thing to do with linked stuff (as opposed to the 'attatchment' function 'poly has, which forces DL)

I was ready, perhaps you lot weren't.

Anyway, those Greek units around Lago weren't sightseeing... and they were there before ST fell to our cunning diplomats

                    • I agree with the elderly gentleman - we were ready, but short-termism took over - once you attack an enemy (particularly one that is 'Supreme') you reduce him to the stone age before looking elsewhere - not leave him virtually unhurt on your doormat!!
Not that is unless you want him to come calling ...

I don't want to be a Prophet of Doom on the sidelines - I want to get in there and pillage and burn! Death to the Greeks!!!

                      • Short-termism or lack of focus, the result is disarming.

A bit more of this and the game will be over very soon. You guys might try working with each other instead of larking about and grousing about city ownership. If a rodent lacks a home he usually just moves in somewhere.

Makes sense... but I guess in my mind I had Slowville in mind when I interpreted the rule as I did.

example: Slowville was lost early on in the game. If the city hadn't been razed, it didn't seem fair that a) it would be OnS's city again only if he recaptured it, or b) if someone else did recapture it (which would be the right thing to do, for the group as a whole) that person would be penalized by not being allowed to capture an AI city.

I hadn't considered whether the recapture of an AI city that had already been captured by someone else would count towards our total of 'city captures' allowed (1 per person). Frankly, in all the succession games we have played, I don't recall losing even one city to the AI (although I recall several heated discussions about 'barbarian farms', so we did lose the odd one to barbarians), so this is new ground to cover.

                          - If the city you founded is somehow destroyed, you may not found another, but you may capture a second city from the AI. If the city you captured is destroyed... well... too bad

Looking at my original rule, I addressed the issue of destroyed cities, not lost ones. The intention was that the group as a whole could recapture lost cities belonging to a particular player, and that ownership would remain with the founding player.

As far as former AI cities go, I'm going to rule that the person who captures a previously 'owned' AI city has the option to either take ownership of said city (and perhaps rename it Julius's Telescope ) or return ownership to the previous capturer. If the former, then the recapturer has used up his one allowed AI city capture, and the original capturer is permitted to capture another city. If the latter, then the original capturer of the city may not capture another city, and the recapturer may take another AI city as his own.

An awkward compromise, but I didn't want to put us in the situation where we could potentially use up all our allowed captures (as a group) if we lost and recaptured a couple more cities.

                          ***************
Moving on to more immediate matters, let's destroy the Greeks, shall we?

                          • On the subject of the Greeks, I moved the units the Old'n"Slow had positioned against the Egyptians back to Greek lands, to help in the battle. I felt that the Egyptians were a battle for another day (or for Old'n'Slow next turn ), and that the Greeks were the more important enemy. Hope this meets with approval, the details (my turnlog) should be posted tonight...kinda been busy lately, my apologies again.

                              • Load game at 1380 AD and consider......and consider.......and consider some more..... what to do first? (no wonder it took me so long to play.......I was being so considerate )

I am genuinely unsure as to what to do......I would like Magellan's (which the Chinese are researching) and Leo's (which the French and Egyptians are both researching). I would also like Sun Tzu's and no one is researching that. I don't think I can complete 3 wonders in 10 turns as we only have two caravans (both in Pax STYOM...defending the city ).

We are reseaching democracy, which will give the opportunity for another wonder that I would like to build but can't. Change tax rates from 30/60/10 to 60/30/10........Net Income goes from 51 to 118 and new discoveries go from 9 turns to 18 turns.

Celebrations are not an option as we don't have any aquaducts (and with 10% Luxuries.....I am not going to change that as I don't intend to increase lux......though I hope someone else does both, we have few cities, having them large sizes would be most pleasing )

We seem to be in war mode (with just about everyone ), and despite RAR's in the peanut gallery I am going to change that if I can.

Change Spare Oval/Pax STYOM/Kenobi Kave/Sad King Julius from Units (Muskateers and Crusaders) to Caravans.....tweaking/rushing all of the above cities while I am at it to rush those same Caravans. Also partially rush caravan in Git's Hole.

                                Press Enter.

Greek Government overthrown.....Diplomat arrives in Six's Torch and prompty convinces the locals to return to the Growing Greek Empire (and if rumors from surviving loyalists are true, when they left the aged new ruler of the city was being shown what he could do with his Torch when they made their escape).....didn't take me long to lose a city!!

Greeks also take Gunpowder just for good measure (and the Egyptians acquire the same through the Great Library )

                                Greeks switch to Monarchy

                                Agree to Peace.
Exchange Iron Working for Economics (another wonder I would like but can't build )
Try to exchange maps unsuccessfully. French end conversation. Ambassador returns to the Council of Warlords with the request that we continue to work with the French, they seem advanced and well developed, would make a good trading partner while we attack the Greeks and perhaps later the Egyptians?

Meet with Chinese Emissary (4 Arrows)
They request Invention......I refrain from laughing in their face while turning them down
They ask for a cease fire and I grant it to them in hopes of getting their maps.
I ask for an exchange of maps but they have no interest in our maps (too bad, I really wanted to see theirs).
The Ambassador returns to the Council of Warlords requesting that we find out more about the Chinese (a city would be a good start). Not sure if they are soon to be an enemy or a friend just yet.

Spare Oval completes food caravan and start's Leonardo's Workshop
