Can someone explain pitboss to me now? ,please?

Ok - pitboss is a form of multiplaying.
Someone (BigFree in this case) hosts the game on a PC of their own.
We as players login to that PC, via the Direct IP option, and play our turns, then log out of it. Very similar to a pbem where the save is emailed around - without the email bit.
The major difference is that each turn is timed. So we have argreed on a 36 hour timer for this game. All that means is that you must play your turn within that 36 hour timeframe. If not the turn ends. Any builds etc will still get the benefit of that turn - but you will lose any unit movement etc etc.
Also - like a "true" multiplayer game - more than one player can login and play their turn at a time.
Effectively it is like a pbem - but much faster, and allows for many more players.
Imagine if you will a pbem game with 10 players. In reality each player will have the save for at least 24 hours (taking timezones into account) - so each player will only see the save every 10 days. Very slow.
This may all sound complicated - but trust me - as a player - it is not. Hell if I can do it (I am a techo idiot), anyone can do it.I don't know why he saved my life. The major difference is that Pitboss can either be sequential turns, like PBEM, or more commonly simultaneous turns (so you can play each turn in any order, not just one player at a time). One turn you might be the last player to play the turn, you hit end turn, voÃla, new turn begins ... and you can now be the first player to play the next turn
Just don't abuse it during a war (ie, try to avoid situations where you play two turns in between your wartime opponent playing his/her turns).

The PBEM start date is subject to when Beta returns back north from his 1-2 wk warming session in Florida...since, I believe, Beta is the one who will be hosting this PBEM monster.Originally posted by Giwi
