  • As we have said we have no more objection against mass media, when Rome has started researching it we had no problem with it...or maybe we were just bluffing all along..
((I don't know what is that score you are talking about we use certain statistic to measure the potential of nations. We know for example that our GDP is 4th, land area is 6th and population is 7th.))

I, Gilgamesh, was proud to sign this Treaty which guarantees the independence and neutrality of all members.

For centuries Sumeria has been seen as a 'Rogue State' which thinks only of itself and will crush the weak without care. This is not true! I trust that all will see that Mongolian inclusion illustrates the exact opposite. The Mongols are Sumeria's very oldest friend and we shall never allow harm to come to them.

This is a Pact of Non-Aligned Nations to provide total support to any member who might suffer aggression from ANY third party. This extends to Economic and Political aggression as well as Military. Each of us may be small nations compared to the might of the great powers but together we can assure ourselves of mutual security and the freedom to exist without perpetual fear.

Rome. You were not invited as a result of placing 40 units upon a direct path to Sumeria's second city, Eridu, whilst feeling that Antium, a single move from the Egyptian border, was worthy of a single Axeman! That Antium contains 2 Shrines and 2 Corporate HQ's makes it's feeble defence even stranger. You cannot expect trust from Sumeria under these circumstances.

Egypt. This is not an Alliance 'against' anyone it is only a Pact to defend ourselves 'against' anyone. Any member who attacks a 3rd Party will nullify their membership immediately. We seek only peace and security for us three and nothing more.

My ink lies still wet upon the paper,
      Gilgamesh

I debunk this but urge Rome to protect all her borders more effectively.

As far as I'm concerned I remain trusting of the lineage of Rangers who built a strong friendship with Augustus line.

I am sure that with some diplomacy, less reclusiveness and contact with Sumeria and Mongolia Rome could be included. I suggest you move your troops to Antium and Gilgamesh may also move Southerly.

I appreciate your trust in Gondor and will not fail you in that.

        Strider.
        Strider,

First of all, Rome is working together with Egypt, like we're working together with all nations that surround us. We have open borders and make agreements. Rome is a modern nation and we have left the many wars with Egypt behind us.

The reason that Antium was not defended was related to the imminent war treat from Sumeria years ago.
Sumeria falsely accused us of espionage and treated us to invade us for that reason. We had no other option but to move our armies to the Sumerian borders. Both our borders with Gondor and Egypt then became unprotected.

Currently our defense is based upon our railroad network.
All armies are located in central positions and can move to any border within 1 turn.
Only our border with Sumeria was too close to one of our cities and therefore needed immediate protection.

As a sign of goodwill I have now moved my army away from the Sumerian borders and stationed it in Antium, the corporate headquarter of the world, inspired by Confucius.

        • Gilgamesh,

Our army near your city was a direct result from the Sumerian treats on Rome years ago.
Now I do not believe that civilized nations like Sumeria or Egypt will invade Rome. I have moved the army away from your border to please you.

Rome doesn't see to join any alliance. We rely on the good relations we have with all nations that surround us. Rome has left the path of war many millenia ago. We do see expansion through corporate activities.

Antium is the Corporate City of the world.
We are willing to send Aluminium representatives to all nations that surround us, if requested.

Also: Egypt is no longer interested experimenting with nuclear weapons. We are ready to extend our nuclear non-proliferation treaty and we will no longer oppose any technology.
"I had a dream", declared the old wissened guru so often ignored at the back of the Great Conclave.

"I saw a beast, foul , hungrey for flesh, arrogantly roaring striding over the world. It has a cover of beauty but in truth the blood of the innocent dripped from its mouth. In its heart it was the king, all quaked at it. "

"It saw a plump creature sitting on seven hills, and it roared galloping sparks flying from its iron claws. Already in its mind it was feasting on its flesh. But as it opened its jaws to bite, other creatures, strong creatures from north and east and south crowded round, refusing to be intimidated. The foul beast shuddered in frustration, and fled back to its haunts.

"Licking its wounds its eyes settled on other prey. Dens of foxes living in hanging gardens - gardens the beast lusted for, desired, wanted. The beast roared, charging, its bellows shaking the earth. Tearing in to the foxes, corpses thrown far and wide. The other animals ingoring the carnage - foxes were vermin they had been told. But the foxes would not die. On and on the beast roared, devouring, spraying blood. But gradually it tired, and the foxes continued to bite and hassass it. Again roaring in frustration the beast withdrew, its once noble fur matted with blood, scared and dirty.

"Then in my dream" went on the old guru eyes white as he recounted his vision "the beast changed, its claws develping into hands, it stood upright, a beard growing to cover its blooded fangs."

"The other animals prospered and relaxed, living in peace, forgetting the beast turned man since he roared no longer, since he threatened no more. But there in the depths of the desert he laboured, sparks and smoke funnelling into the sky, but the animals thought nothing of it. He build great fences around the desert, but the animals thought nothign of it, glad to be separated from, free from, the beast.

"And then, one night, in deepest winter, the sky was shattered as a machine build of iron rose from the desert and sped on to the stars. The animals could do nothing behind the high fences, and bowed to the man-beast who was truly king.

The old guru foamed at the mouth, and the members of the great conclave stepped over him going for their lunch. If only they had remembered his predictions had never been wrong before.

            • Rome,

My Dear Neighbour, your comments confuse me. First you proclaim yourself distraught that you were not invited into the Pact of Non-Aligned Nations and then recant it by saying that you would never have joined with the seekers of peace, freedom and non-interventionism in any event. Why proclaim yourself disappointed at not receiving an invitation to a ball that you would never have attended anyway?

As for your comments regarding 'Treats' given to Rome I am baffled. I can understand a degree of resentment towards Egypt due to the 'Treat' given by her, although this must be tempered by the fact that the first gift was from Rome, I fail to recall a single 'Treat' given by Sumeria. At no point in history has Sumeria engaged in any form of hostile action against Rome. I challenge you to name but a single one!

              • Sumerian Parliament,

Instead of trying to solve the issue and trying to bring our nations together again, you decide to flie to the front. After this diplomatic problem dissolved, the Roman leadership urged itself immediately to remove it's army from your border, trying to easy the tension. Apparently that's not what you have chosen to do.

You ask me to open my history books and show you the faux pass you made back then?
This public message was sent out by your administration November 7th 1738 AD:

Originally posted by Sumeria (DoD) View Post

A nation, unknown as yet but high suspect identified, has chosen to attempt mass murder upon the innocent residents of major Sumerian cities by introducing toxins into their water supplies.

This is a hideous crime. A crime for which forgiveness can never be considered. Murderous Scum, we will track you down and you will be punished!

The real question that all Sumerians ask is why? A peaceful nation with no enemies, save for the vile creatures of the far west, has no part to play in the games of the mighty who surround her.

Fight your wars if you wish my friends but leave Sumeria out of them! A small agricultural nation has no place at your table. Let us grow our corm and wheat in peace and seek not to drag us into wars.

                Gilgamesh
Then we received diplomatic message in which you accused of supporting terrorism against Sumeria.
Here's your message and our reponse to that. (unfortunatley our archives are cut off at the top a bit so that only a part of your message is still visible, but it's there and it reads clearly: "You consider me enemy. Why? Never [we] hurt Rome so [I do] not see logic."
The cut off lines contained something like: "We have identified Rome behind the acts of terrorism recently performed in Sumeria. We will not let this happen unpunished. You consider me enemy. Why? Never [we] hurt Rome so [I do] not see logic."

After these communications and this clear treath from Sumeria to Rome, we had to move our army to your border.

                • Prime Minister Augustus,

                  You shoot misguided arrows here.

Upon the matter of troop redeployment:-

You ignore the fact that all mobile units have been removed from Uruk, Eridu and Ur.
You ignore the fact that, due to the sad attacks upon her from the south, Sumeria's 3 oldest and largest cities, including her capitol, are border towns. These cities represent 1/3 of the Sumerian population! Would you leave Rome, the city, undefended?
You ignore the fact that despite repeated requests from my Ambassador for an explanation as to why Rome had gathered such an army so close to our border that not even a minor official was sent to reply.
You ignore the fact that it has only been via Strider of Gondor's good efforts has anything been achieved. Latin is taught in Sumerian schools but it appears that, sadly, Sanskrit is not considered worthy of study in Rome.

Upon the matter of Terrorist Attacks upon Sumeria:-

You present an accurate copy of the Sumerian government's public statement regarding the murder of her innocent civilians.
You present an accurate copy of a 'private' diplomatic communique detailing Rome's response to suggestions made by Sumeria.
You then present an entirely fictitious set of questions which provoked the replies displayed! You cannot simply display an answer and then invent the question as suits your purpose. This is nothing better than the politics of the crèche!

                  • Mr Plomp I have a problem with the server and game. On first attempt to enter and play my move it went oos. On subsequent attempt it allowed my to enter and play my turn BUT will not allow me to place new orders onto build queues for cities with completed build queue. I believe a reload of the server may be necessary to fix this problem.

                        • The reload did not fix the problem after it I still could not fix the build queues, only rolling over to the next turn achieved that, so missed a turn's build in half a dozen cities, things that happen I suppose. I will be away for next 48 hours, so noone wipe me out while I am gone.

But no space ship, no one went for culture, no more danger of religious victory.. all that left are big wars.. hopefully some war will be without Egypt getting involved.. for a change
