People of Chiel, it has come to my attention that our so called brothers from the north have settled into our lands to the north. I m amazed as you all are that they never approached us to discuss a possible border treaty, instead they have taken what isn’t theirs to have.

Yes I like you am saddened by these developments. It seems these Byzantines use talk to sweeten themselves only to misuse the trust which was starting to take hold.

Who knows the day after tomorrow we may wake up to be surrounded by another Byzantine settlement east from Chiel? This will not be, I have sent a letter asking for an immediate reply by their leader Constantine. This unjust act has to be balanced, I will not let these brothers from the north do as they please.

      Dresdan of Chiel,

I was filled with joy when I saw a messanger bearing the red cross coming to Constantinople, eager to hear news from our brothers to the south. Imagine then my confusion when I heard the words he spoke. Thessalonica was founded to allow trade and mutual support between our nations, not conflict. It was founded in the wild empty places which lie between our civilizations, no closer to Chiel than the Constantinople. I have no idea how you believe that this was your land - it was empty open land full only of wild men and animals. If in your mind you build great empires, claiming land in your imagination but telling nobody of these dreams, how are others to know?

It saddens me that you cannot rejoice in the founding of Thessalonica which banishes the barbarian menace from the Marmara, and opens up trade betwen our nations. But with a heavy heart I have to reject your claim, my brother, that this was your land. It was nobody's land, it was empty land midway between us, it was god's land.

However, this day I have learnt something of your ways, my brother. I understand now that the people of Chiel like to take ownership in their minds of the great empty spaces of this world, and dream dreams dividing them up between the peoples. We stand in awe at your confidence that all our so called civilisation will not be wiped away in the dusts of the desert, and that one day our peoples could indeed find shortage of space in this massive land.

For the sake of our relations my brother, I am indeed happy to come and meet with you and join in this Chiel approach and talk of the distant future and try, using only the memories of our scouts to guide us, to dream dreams together of where our people may one day live and comingle.

        Constantine,

My letters have been sent, again what brother will not share his plans of expansion with his family. As you say this has shown much about your character as a person. Seems the Byzantines go by the motto Don't share, Don't tell and take all......

But my brother, your anger is only because you had already in your heart decided that this empty land was yours - expansion plans of your own which you did not share and did not tell of.

I am still amazed that you believe that empty land can be 'owned' or 'claimed' by anyone. This has never been the Byzantine custom. Perhaps we are alone in this world in our belief that empty barbarian infested land is owned by nobody. Perhaps not - perhaps other people share our belief. However, as my private message to you has shown, we are prepared in dealing with you to adopt your customs and discuss the future of the empty spaces of this world.

          Lets fine peace.

The Elite of the Red Cross people heads north to meet the Byzantine danger and ask that a fair deal be reached with the Byzantines, compensating for the militaristic expansion towards Chiel.

For many generations our people lived in peace in the valley of Beretyo. Our brave warriors kept the barbarian hordes away from the city, but recently we see more and more signs of strange men closing to our lands. They must be the invasion force that the God warned us about, and as He has commanded we are ready for them.
In the last years we have trained many warrior divisions who will seek out these new threats and deal with them.

Today is a great day as one of our chief Shaman will speak to us and bless the warriors before they march against our enemies..

"People of Delphi! Warriors! Hear me as I bring the wisdom of the Gods! Last night they spoke to me and told me that we should not seek war with those strangers. While they are barbarians-no doubt-, they are not as savage as other tribes we met before- They even could be our allies against the uncivilized hordes.
Soon we will send emissaries to their leaders and we shall see if talk and peace is possible with them."

              ....

"Greetings strangers! We welcome you however urge you that dont bring weapons close to our city. Lets talk and learn from eachother!"

                Drestan,

Believing your privately expressed desire for peace and compromise, I will not respond to the talk of militarism, and the display of brave-looking, outmoded warriors. As I have expressed privately, I still wait for a proposal from you for achieving the 'balance' you suggest. I am sure that once you make such a proposal, we will be able to achieve a compromise to the benefit of both our peoples.

                Constantine.

A young warrior arrived at the village breathless and exhausted. He managed to make his way to the hut of the Korta.

"Sir, we have met new people to the southeast near the river. They carried clubs like ours but did not attack. They crossed over the river and met with our hunting party. Communication was difficult but we believe they are called indee-ans. They describe their village as being south of the salty water on the banks of the river."

The Korta stroked his chin as he pondered what to do. "Young warrior. Make your way back to these new people and offer them friendship. While we will prepare defenses in case these people are hostile, my hope is that we can become friends with these new people, each enjoying our surrounding area."

Alexander returned home still covered in the blood of the guardians he had slain. As he made his way up the main street to his home on the top of the hill the citizens just looked at him in fright. He made his way into his chambers remover his coverings and set them on fire. He walked over to the lake right next to his home and began to wash off the blood. When he finished he got dressed, walked down to the center of the city and spoke.

“For all who do not know my name his Alexander Vi Britannia son of Xander El Britannia head of the Order of Britannia. My father along with all the members of the Order were killed by the Guardians who were supposed to protect us. In response to this I along with a few others tracked down the guardians and took revenge for the deaths of our people. No without the Order or the leadership of the Guardians I will take control over Britannia. From this day forth all shale all serve me!”

Fearing that Alexander would kill them as he did the guardians the citizens of Pendragon knelt before Alexander giving him their loyalty.

                        A great day in Constantinople

The people had grown used to the fire and new abrasive smells coming from the edge of the high plateau surrounding Constantinople. For years the rock hewers had been working there, heating, cooling, breaking rocks, seeking for new materials.

But the tempo seemed to change. A new excitement in the air. For six whole months, Constantine and the holy men were constantly there. Finally word was spread that there would be a great festival at the new moon.

All gathered on the banks of the great river Marmara.

Out from the darkness marched warriors carrying new weapons, shimmering in the light, made not of stone, nor wood, but of some new material, which cuts flesh like a lions claws.

The people roared with delight, but the soliders moved on, flanking a group of holy men and Constantine himself. This was not a day just for the celebration of this new, mystical material which emerges from the rocks.

                        Then Constatintine began:

"My people, this day I come to declare to you the order of this world. Listen well, for it is to this world that the one Lord has created.

                        We are not alone.

Today I proclaim to you the name of Cole the Brave, the new leader of the people of the Red Cross. He is the great star that has arisen in the south. He is our true brother." The soliders started to chant "Cole the Brave, brother", a low rumblihg sound. "Cole and the Chiel have come to the aid of our people in Thessalonica. I proclaim this day that Cole is our true brother. His enemies are my enemies. His friends are my friends". Cheering erupted from the crowd.

Constantine motioned for silence, there was more. "I bring you news of more of our kin, across the great valley to the West. There live another people, who call themselves Greeks. But they too are from the same stock as us. They speak our lanaguage. Far back, when the gods walked this earth, we were split from them, them to the west us to the east of the great valley. They too our our friends."

"But all are not men of great stature such as these. You know well that these lands are full of the twisted folk, the beasts of desert and hills. God has revealed to me, that such folk should take on their share of building civilisation here on the Marmara. They will work with us, they will work for us. Those who do not choose to, will be compelled to. From this day forth, alongside the free of Constantinople and Thessalonica, and our brothers of the red cross, our kin to the west, and other peoples further scattered, we recognise also that God has given these twisted people of the land to be our slaves, so they too may serve his purposes.

The people cheered - friends and brothers to south and west; oath taken to stand alongside Cole the Brave, and now new bodies to toil in the fields and work the mines.

                          Saladin's private journal ...

Our emissaries sent to Greece have not been acknowleged.

Our capitals are close so without border discussions a perceptable state of tension exists between us although not announced.

Our warriors explore their borderterritory without contact with any others. Even the scouts on the hill have not been seen.

The guardians were literally my warrior unit game wise but story wise the guardians were creatures that turned on their kind to protect humans and through years of killing their own gained human form themselves. They also were the first leaders of Britannia until that job was given to common citizens. It is all in my posts just need to go back and read them if you want to know more.
