Such an abundance of sea creatures there was in the Great lake, that a dozen families were send to settle the lakeshore. Once all the huts were build, local men were send in their small boats to start harvesting the rich waters. While fishermen were loading their catches, other men were building a road to connect the capital of Korecom with the seaport Vrux. Even Lord Meto will soon be able to treat himself to some fresh fish.

King Romulus was unnerved by reports of barbarian scouts waiting outside the city of outcasts. He ordered all three of the legions to return from scouting duty. Despite preparing for the worst he was still excited at the prospect of first contact. The barbarians apparently call themselves Russians.
He sent a friendly message: The Roman state welcomes the emissaries and explorers of the Russian Empire. We have ordered our citizens to bring your scouting party fresh supplies and to hold a feast on the nearby hill to celebrate this momentous occasion. May both our people prosper and thrive in the centuries to come.Last edited by Pitboss Rome; June 28, 2008, 10:36.

Scout: Master Josef! We've been exploring the jungly region and found another tribe there. They call themselves Romanii, or Romans, and greet us as "explorers of the Russian Emprie". I'm certain though that the last is a mispronounciation of "Empire", yet I have no idea as to what empire they are referring to, let alone what is an empire. I think it may be some odd name for tribe, translated poorly. "Russian" I believe is an odd transmorphogration of "Rus", which of course is the name of our leader's clan, but the way of defining us as "People of the Rus' Lands", or "Ruskaya Zemlya" as we would say, in the manner these Romans do, is strange to us. It is clear that this is a very strange and foreign culture.
As to their intentions, they wish to offer us supplies and hold a feast for us, provided our translators are correct. So unless they are planning to eat us, I think we may have found a friendly neighbour.
Josef: So much linguistic babble... I almost be dozeink off. Still, this is good news. Very good. Tell them that we will be acceptink their offer and that I will personally meet with a leader if it is possible to arrange. As we saw families and Settlers moving east, I think perhaps a discussion over land rights may be most wise to avoid any misunderstandings.
I hope Pitr has the sense to do the same with our other neighbours.
Meanwhile back at the Ruskaya Zemlya...
Very disconcerting... It seems our mystics have placed us very poorly according to their Scoreo Boards. How do I please the spirits to grant us greater favor? Such headache. And I also need more scouts, it really is far overdue that we make second contact with the Goose-men. Perhaps Dmitrij, could take care of it... Though he is somewhat coarse and uncouth. Yes, I will send Dmitrij further west and tell him to tell the Goose-men:
From Pitr Rus, wealthiest man of the east. I and my people greet you, Port of Geese-men, and wish to establish good relationship with you. We are interested in discussing your intentions towards the lands east of your home, as they are currently intendet for settlink by families of Rus who have need of more lands. Please treat my messenger with respect, for he represents all my clan and the people we rule over. We perhaps agree to a specific spot between our lands where we can meet and discuss matters of mutual interest. Live long and prosper.
Pitr Rus.

Mark what can you tell me of these people? These Russians?
Rus apparently my majesty, they are some kind of tribal alliance with apparently little concept of city states. It appears everything is owned and governed by someone called Pitr Rus..
A king?
Something like that... despite a very different social organization than we have they seem to be an advanced society. Also the most fascinating aspect are certain similarities to our own society, they are divided into families like we, and the places they settle can only be described as towns and cities... make no mistake these are no ordinary barbarians.
This is good news! Another light of civilization in the world. I had feared I would have to face the disciples of darkness alone!
Well my lord It appears they hold claim to land east of us...
Hm? Well our settler is quite near to his destination, I'm certain it is not within the land they claim. I mean how could a people we have never encountered before claim the back yard of Antium? That reminds me, we can afford to wait no longer. The city of outcasts must now bow directly to me, I can't risk continuing to leave them autonomous now that I know of other rulers comparable to me...
Sir they will revolt!
Not a problem, our scouting warriors are returning to the city, so the situation should be under control. Anyone who resists, should be imprisoned and have his rights as citizen removed.
But as what should they be categorized then?
Do we need a label for everything? I don't care, file them down as property. Hm, lets call them slaves or something...
Aren't you too lenient my liege? In past agessuch people would have been killed outright!
If need be we can kill those who resist as well. But I seek to improve peoples lives, so only use violence as a last resort. Now Mark memories this message and relay it to the easternfolk scout:
Hail ruler of the Rus!
This messenger speaks these words on my behalf. I am willing to meet your messenger in person on neutral ground. Please suggest an appropriate location.
Roman settlers do not plan on going far to the east. From what I am told they plan to settle in the vicinity of the city of outcasts. We would ask that you share your knowledge of the lay of the land with us and we will reciprocate.
A simple way to do this is for me to travel with my retinue from the neutral meeting place back to your nearest city. In that way we will both have a good idea of where each of us is.
King Romulus of the city of Rome
Now to the messenger:
Greetings Josef son of the rising Sun, welcome to our lands . I do not know your status in Rus society but I am so excited at the prospect of meeting a representative of another civilization that I am willing to dispense formal rules. By Jupiter I would meet with a fisherman in such circumstances! You have heard my message to your king may I ask you where do you wish to meet? Also the land to the west is barren and empty no Roman has ever found anything of interest there. There is little point in traveling far west, but feel free to travel to the deserts edge to convince yourself of my words. May I ask what is to be found in the East? How many squares (ancient Roman unit) to the east lies your homeland? And what is that land like?Last edited by Pitboss Rome; June 28, 2008, 11:15.

Josef Rus:
I much appreciate your hospitable form and treatment of our foreign weary feet on your nice grassgreen lands. As for my status, I am a member of the clan of Rus and as such I be holdink honor among my people. Our people have ancient origins. It is told, that before beginnink of time, before sun rose on earth, the people were leaderless and lost. So they went to tribe that lives on other side of water, many names they were called, godlike in nature. Gothias, Svitjods, Danijas and Ruotsi. Called by a single name, Vikingr. These were like gods that once walked the earth, and myth tell that their ancestors still live in distant lands, but they are not Viking. The ancient gods are dead and gone, now only another, lesser race, exists in their place.
But in those times the people came to them and said "Our land is rich and open, but we have no masters who know wisdom and wilyness who can teach us and lead us. Will you come and live with us and be our masters?" And my ancestor, was of the ancient proud race, descendents of the Ruotsi, and he became leader of the people, whom we called Slavs, for they would be our slaves and we would be their rulers. They serve us and we lead them, giving to them in return for their hard work, unity, justice and wisdom.
We are the inheritors of the ancient Ruotsi, We are Rus.
Now that tellink of legends and myths are finished, I will skip right to point. Our people and our cities lie on north side of the Great Mountains, towards the east. If you walk from the city you call Antium, eastwards, you will reach the ocean. North from there lies a great desert. If you cross the desert, followink coastline, you will within some time reach Novgorod. First City of Rus. Home of Traders of East. Here lives the venerable Pitr Rus, on a white beach with an evergreen forestcovered land stretching inwards.
As I understood my superior, Pitr Rus, he intended to send a delegation of Rus and Slavs, south. To the river that runs through the dead desert lands. I doubt it likely that he would desire to send people further south than this, so I doubt there will be any matter of dispute between our people. As long as you do not settle east of the end of the grasslands east of Antium, we will welcome peace with your citystates.
If you wish to travel with us back to our home, we may be willing to arrange this, but it is far. As for a neutral meetink place, there is to the east, a dry hill, that glitters of fine metals in sunshine and sparkles in night. Here would be a good place to meet in future occasions for mighty rulers and leaders of peoples. I will communicate this to my leader when I have opportunity and a meeting between you can be scheduled there.
In addition, I shall draw you here on this rock, the lay of the lands east.

We thank you for your drawings, they shed much light on what lies east. I am afraid that I as a ruler of a nation am too busy to draw you a picture. I will instruct one of my servants to draw you a picture of the north and west but I do not know how long this will take.
The border arrangement to the south seems fair. We would like to settle east of the herds of cows and south of the nearest glittering hill. We wish this so that we can benefit from the bounty of the sea. Who knows perhaps Russia would be interested in importing such foods? If you have nothing of value to trade we would be glad to provide them for free, so your friendly people may grow strong.
A future meeting should prove very interesting.
I must bid farewell for now. May your nation flourish.Last edited by Pitboss Rome; June 30, 2008, 02:05.

The hardy boys contiunued their hunt through the Great Forrest for centuires. IT was another historic year when they were atttacked by the lions. This time though the Oldonian fighters were ready. Inspired by tails of old, they knew how to defeat the lions, the hardy boys took some slight losses but win they had to and win they did.
They sent word back to the palace,
"Oh great leader, the GREAT ONE himself did lead us into battle today, we have slain the lions and are advanincing onto their home lands. We will with the blessings of the GREAT ONE once and for all end this lions menance"

The Athenian scouts have walked many miles.
The started in the north-west of the known world, headed north-east first, only to turn around to head towards the south-east.
On their way they had to battle with lions and wolves.
Many wild beasts were slaughtered. Huge mountain passes were climbed, rivers were crossed, hills were passed. Fields of grass and huge plains. Many animals were met on their way.
After many years they stumbled upon people who named themselves "the Coreans".
The Athenian scouts sent a word of peace towards them and signed peace with the Coreans. The peace was celebrated.
The Coreans told of their past troubles with another people, the Mayas.
The group of Athenian scouts continued their march into the distance. They stumbled upon the borders of the so called Maya empire, not much later. Eventhough a message of peace was sent to the Mayas, no answer was received to this date.
The group of scouts decided to return home to Athene and to deliver the maps they had drawn and the words of the Coreans. One of the scouts was left near Maya territory, hoping for a formal answer to their call of peace.

The palace was in uproar, chaos everywhere. Word had been received of the strange men in hte plains seen by the Warrier brigade.
The elders all sat in the council chambers, the old man himself finally stood and hushed the people down.
My fellow Oldonians, we have lived peacefully for centuries upon centuries, unaware of the existence of anything but lions and bears. Now word arrives that men bearing clubs have arrived in our part of the world. Did hte Great One send them? There is no indication from on high that this is so. WE must treat these new creatures the same as the Bears and Lions. They are not to be trusted till they prove trustworthy. The bears of the North have kept the peace and we both keep to our own lands, we have not seen the bears now for over a hundred years.
The lions though are a different story. they continually attack our peoples and we are sworn to destroying them.
These new people who speak a strange language, we must watch carefully, they come bearing no gifts to anothers territory, they bear large clubs. Some leader from afar off has sent his army to seek exansion area for an obviously large tribe.
Yes we must be careful my people. Their army is too strong for us to fight and win at present. So i have ordered my warriors to track their progress as they map our territory.
My bravest son Alvin is being sent to try and communicate with these fierce men from afar. Alvin bleeives he can commiunicate via drawings.
Till we know more, all travel is cancelled no one outside the city area.

Warm Greetings unto the Oldonian Empire
It has been brought to my attention that my one of our warriors who was scouting the far northwest region of this great land has ran across the Oldonian people!
I wish to extend a warm welcome to our newest northwest neighbors.
Empress Iris of Piercia will be interested in finding out that our two empires are not the only empires on this great continent.
Here is to a start of a friendly and fruitful relationship between our three great empires!

The Early History of the Metalhead Tribe
In the early days, the Metalhead tribe was a primitive people. Like most humans of this age they scraped out a difficult living hunting and gathering. Long before they were known as the Metalheads they were known as the Aranbees. The early history of the Aranbees is difficult to pin down as life was constantly in flux. The Aranbee tribe was nomadic and cross-crossed the lands that would one day be known as the Metalhead homeland.
The Aranbees were largely an unremarkable tribe in the grand scheme of things. They lived and survived like many other tribes, but their culture was most unusual for the time. While music would become a hallmark of early tribes across the planet, it was the Aranbees who first incorporated it into their culture in a major way.
A strong, pounding rhythm became the hallmark of early Aranbee music. Hitting hallowed out logs produced a deep, loud noise that was repeated steadily for a soothing trance-like effect that captivated Aranbee men and women. The Aranbees also found that by blowing through narrow reeds they could produce sound and entertaining melodies. Envoys from neighboring tribes would travel far to hear the pulsating Aranbee music.
Soon, this music transformed the Aranbee from an unremarkable tribe to one of the great cultures on the planet. Their music became intertwined with the progress of this tiny tribe in all aspects of life. The technology, culture and even warfare were built around their proud musical tradition.
This fusion began during the rule of Louis Jordan. A tribe from the country to the west of the Aranbees grew jealous of the Aranbee music. They sought to steal the sounds for themselves. This western country wore tall hats and made strange music by plucking strings of animal tendon pulled taught over pieces of wood. While their music was quite popular, they grew jealous of the Aranbees and sought to destroy their people.
Chief Jordan stood strong. He would not yield. The warriors of the western country were fierce fighters. Their warchief, Hank Williams, led them down out of the mountains to attack the Aranbee people. It was then at the great meeting of these two great people that a young Aranbee made history.
He was a young food gatherer whose true name has been lost to history. He was small and unfit for joining the other men in the hunt. Instead he was sent to pick berries with the women. When his people were threatened howeverhe rose to the call and defended his people. The warriors from both tribes scratched, hit and wrestled with each other for dominance. The young berry picker lacked the strength to engage directly with the warriors from the country in the west. Instead he revolutionized warfare for his people.
He observed the battle from the top of a small hill. He looked down and was frustrated he was unable to do more to protect his people. It was then he had a moment of inspiration. He picked up a jagged stone from the dirt. He observed the battle closely, rolling the stone around in his palm, feeling every crevice and bump along its surface. Then when he saw an opening, he chucked the rock with all his strength at a westerner. The rock struck him square in his temple. The man dropped to the ground suddenly. A trickle of blood flowed from the side of his skull.
The men on both sides of the skirmish looked up in shock. This small berry picker had killed a strong warrior in one blow. Hank Williams turned to run, but the berry picker chucked another rock and killed him instantly. The westerners were panicked by the loss of their leader but were too afraid to run. Both sides looked to the small dark skinned boy to see what he would do next.
Would he kill all the warriors from the western country? Would he scare them off?
No. He welcomed them. He told both people that it was through unity, peace and understanding that both their peoples would prosper. The westerners, now leaderless, accepted his offer. Soon their women and children were brought east to join the Aranbee as one tribe.
The small boy was almost grown and declared their chief. For his profession of berry picker and his prowess chucking the rock to end the war, he was henceforth known as Chuck Berry. It was he who united Aranbee and the western country into one nation united by rock.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012
