That is not really fair.

I don't mind the AI taking over for a short while, but I am not letting it start... I'll try and arrange a sub. I might be able to play from my laptop, but I can't remember if Civ4 is installed and I don't have my Civ4 Vanilla disk with me, only Warlords and BtS.

Ahem, if this was galciv you could just download civ4, and then install BtS from your CD. But since this isn't GalCiv downloading civ 4 and then installing BtS from your CD would be illegal, despite you having purchased a legitimate copy.

Actually... does anyone have a list of the appropriate registry keys? I could try just copying the install from my desktop onto my laptop...
No illegal downloading, and an ability to play pretty much every turn.

Fairness?? If the Game is played in diplo style it will be fair no matter who palys, or even if the AI is used for a period. That is the beauty of "true" Diplo. The only reason to be concerned about fairness is that someone thinks that the AI will cause them to not win, due to a bad start.
It is sad to see how changed Diplo has become.

Just to lessen Ras's fear:
I don't hate bad starts be cause it's harder to win... in fact I rarely win without a late-game coup anyway. I am simply very picky about my city placement and I know the AI gets it wrong every time.

It hasn't. I wouldn't mind to have a bad start or being the last civ (and I usually am ). But there are several new players to diplo in this game.
In any case I see your point, I say we start as soon as possible regardless if a one or two players can't make it.
