“The greatest happiness is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see those dear to them bathed in tears, to clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters.” -Genghis Khan (allegedly)
just an idea. if we were to export the real life world's development on HOTWXII, which nation would your empire be?
I sort of imagine Holland to be like India, large, developed and advanced. I would place myself as China, another large and advanced nation in the east. Inca would roughly correspond to the Arabian empire at its golden era, placed in the middle as a crossroads and greatly advanced. France would probably be like Korea, a bit smaller and somewhat isolated in the east. Ottoman, maybe Persia? ancient culture linking "India (Holland) and Arabia (Inca)".
I don't know much about the western lands, but I imagine America as possibly the turks or mongols, growing in prominence by conquering new lands by neverending war. Carpathia would as such be similar to Byzantine, a large empire slowly crumbling by war.

whatcha think? we need to explore more I guess
Has anyone noticed that on Terra lands in the East tend to be more advance and higher up in score. I wonder why that is so.
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

The time zones are going to continue to alter, the Australian players on the 30th of March I believe will be moving to winter time, which then plays havoc with our longstanding games we have playing before the diplo game with other Aussie friends. We have shortened our session time with our Aussie friends by an hour or so to accomodate the diplo already, potential further changes would take another 2 hours from these sessions, effectively killing longstanding games potentially.
Changing time zones are a pain in the neck and create havoc with schedules
Also before I forget I traded Construction with Stalin, people please try to find techs to trade with more backward players. Soon such countries may have nothing left to trade! And they could be stuck! We don't want this since a game with 4 or 5 AI in the 1500's would be a bummer since HOTW12 is one of the best Diplo games ever.
There was a future tech promised to France for this trade. Two old ones for a more advanced one, but we only had one that was tradable.
France is right, What CAN they trade, since you have everything already?????????
The Russian story is behind as there have been hordes of barbarians rampant in and around Russia. (not a whole lot of story in that)
Hmmm, as I am sitting at 7 techs traded, you can understand a reluctance on my part to gift or trade techs to more backward nations than me (if any such thing exists).
I would also like to send brickbats to Carpathia for an unwillingness to negotiate. Outside of the diplomacy screen he never speaks to me, & inside the diplomacy screen he refuses to deal-even though I am offering cash to end the conflict. The only sticking point seems to be a mutual pledge not to go beyond our current borders. Of course he won't tell me that, so its only speculation.
Please, Carpathia, your diplomacy & roleplaying have been well above par for every session, please don't let it slip now .

I seem to have noticed in my SP games that this is often the time that I for some reason get bored and quit. but this is most certainly not the case here but I have noticed a wee bit of drop in writing enthusiasm, which is unfortunate, but with all the action of recent times, I am certain that this will turn.
ah. the main reason for this post. keep in mind that we are to vote on the posts made after last session up until the start of next session. we should all try to finish most stories and diplomacy by friday/saturday so that we can take the last day before game session to read through the posts and vote.
Sorry - my posting will take untl before the next session ... and I've only voted once, which disdavantages the other players I know.
I don't like the weekly votes - I don't think it will work, particulatrly with changing players.
I'm a bit against the whole voting thing actually.
Someone asked me why wasn't I going after all the ozzy objective voting points. I totally am ignoring that because it contrains the ever changing strategy needed for the successful development of my civ.
Sorry. Going for Liberalism or a religion when I need settlers or troops? Crazy!

Let's try and see it from Carpathia's point of view. I honestly don't know who the player is which is good.
Carpathia and America were quite close and had long ties and plans presumably?
Then the regular America player drops out which really TOTALLY sux. I think Diplo America has really cooked their goose this time.
Then a sub/replacement takes over America and history understandeably changes - most realistc.
Carpathis is a brilliant bew addition to the diplo fold with excellent stories and posts and game play/attitude etc.
We can not afford to lose such players.
I suggest we pull back from brutally conquering Carpathia and give the player a chance to adjust to the situation - probably he's in shock.
Carpathia needs to learn something and so do we!
Let's handle this in a way that sees Carpathia's return next week and hopefully a new agreement with America.
I hold to my view that I would never take out a capital, even if it's negotiated to be returned. It's really bad form in a diplo game and not conducive to new players. Basically one of the best diplo vets was up agains a total diplo new comer. Let's give him a break. (This would not have happened if Diplo America had been playing)
Please contact America and work out a deal guys.
Hollande will be posting some inducements in the story thread over the next few days.

That is the whole point. "Successful development of your civ" has now changed. By "successful development" you mean "the fastest path to launching the ship". Which gets you some points, but not enough to ignore other objectives. The point of this system is to encourage players to look at the game holistically instead of focusing exclusively on that one goal.
If you don't take the whole game into consideration you will lose.
And yes, people need to vote every week. Every week. It would be great if CS made regular nagging posts listing off who has and hasn't voted to remind us.
