If Kuno, LzPrst, Capo, etc. are in that one (and obviously Ozzy), then I'll play.

      Otherwise I take a break.
I'll be in 'mixed' games later again (With experienced players and new players), after the baby's been born and we've moved to our new house.

Conclusion: if Ozzy's out, I'm out, if Ozzy's in, I'll be in.
Maybe it's best to start this star-game later this year anyway.
Well... if I joined I doubt I'd be able to give it my "A game". So perhaps it would be better to wait on that all-star game till I could really invest my time the way I did with some earlier games.

Yeah I agree with pinchak, I think it would be good to increase the diplogamer pool by having at least two new diplogamers.

And I don't think Kuno has said anything about it at all, and I've tried to IM him but he has yet to respond.

But I don't know, maybe we can do some sort of modified East Asian diplogame, or something of that sort (Maybe Greek city-states, or maybe Thirty Years War?) as a thought for the future. I think Beyond the Sword has been a great addition to Civ IV, especially for us. If we get these three games (X, XI, and XII) finished we can possibly get a few new guys into the Diplogames group and play some really cool ones later on. We've had the benefit of having a pretty good Diplogame when Civ IV started, so we're on a good pace to have a lot of great games.

I guess what I'm saying is, there isn't much of a need to have an "all-star" game at this point, especially when two games are already planned/being played so why put everyone's schedule through hell?

Maybe for our all-star game we can do something like East Asia, Europe, etc...

But for right now we should try and get at least 15 people interested and then try and figure out a workable schedule for the game.

Geeez, we've been busy introducing new players all the time. I've spent hours and hours to help them, inform them, contact them, keep them interested in the game, wait for them when their connection failed, couldn't figurer things out, when they didn't show up, etc. etc.

Now I want to play 1 single game with some experienced players, and I'm suddenly elitist?

There's nothing wrong with setting up 1 game with experienced players after I've played 6 games with many unexperienced players and did my very best to help them in every possible way.

I second Toni, I think the game should be played on US Saturday nights.

As far as everyone calling CyberShy elitist; I dont' think they meant it dispariagingly, I think it was just the best word for what he was trying to convey. Nobody thinks you are elitist, we just want you to play and I talked to Ozzy last night and it doesn't really look like he wants to be in. So please don't hitch yourself to Ozzy's wagon CyberShy, just get in on this action!

That said, I still think if we got a couple new guys involved, or at least guys who aren't that experienced in the Diplogame format, it would be helpful to future games.

                    CET (GMT +1)

                    I’d really like to join!

I’m a bit of a newbie to civ4 MP, but not at all to civ. From the responses I got on this forum and some of the threads I read, I think this could be just my cup of tea, since I’m continually disappointed by the unresponsiveness of regular BtS MP players.

Has anyone thought of a Mediterranean/middle east map? A huge world map might be very fun too, well for me. I think using Rhye's and Falll would be an excelent idea, it would be a real history of the world, the dynamics would probably reduce the entrenched alliances problem even without additional rules concerning diplomacy, not to mention giving underdog players one more reason to stick with the game.

A European map would be okay too but I think OzzyKP mentioned that the vast stretches of empty land in Russia are unbalanced. Why not give the Russians some competition? Like perhaps Mongols, other Russian states, Central Asian civs, or heck why not even countries like Armenia or a Black Sea civs? Being a noob, I don’t know if this has been tried: Why not simply have raging barbarians, with extra barbarian cities and units in placed in Russia at the start of the game (in addition to a no great wall for non-Mediterranean civs rule)?

I’m CET, which is GMT +1, I’m sufficiently crazy and have an adequately flexible schedule that I’d be willing to play weekly on all afternoons/evenings/very early mornings except Wednesday.

Edit: Just noticed the bit about the all star team. Well maybe a suggestion or two I made will be useful. :better crying:

Second Edit: Thanks for the positive response Toni. If any of the others change their mind about leting a new player in, I'd still love to join.

Personally I'd be more interested in a Mediterranian/Mideast map purely because there wouldn't be large amounts of empty, fertile land, and because there are plenty of civs in the area.

Then again, my top vote goes to a world map (though something smaller than Rhye's (depending on how many players of course)).

But I'm still planning on sitting out, so feel free to ignore me, heh. I'm always glad to help set up the map and sub occasionally and provide advice.

I'm game for anything, but a Europe map would be fully viable by making Russia a bit less fertile as I suggested earlier. squeaze the tundra further down, and make plains instead of grassland the main terrain.

hey Fleme, you would be playing saturday nights around 1-4. i guess that is saturday night to sunday early morning. but if you were a party animal you'd be doing that most saturdays anyway

can't we move the game a few hours later. currently it starts 6-ish in america? if you would be willing to sit up late for a change, we could get up early, by moving it ahead from the current slot by some 6 hours. you'd play at 11/12 at night, and we'd play early sunday mornings. europe has been quite disadvantaged since we started, always using the current time slot, which for us is 12-3. at night. moving it from friday to saturday won't really change much...

I could agree to that, as long as it isn't any later than what you've suggested.

No worries, I'd just like to play one such a game. Not every game. And since I'm most probably not going to be in the next game, then that's a perfect change for you to make yourself a part of the all star team and line up when we are ready

@The Capo: no, I'm not going to play next game. It's not because Ozzy is not in, I'm getting a (2nd) baby and we're moving to a new house. It's just that if Ozzy is going to play, I will play as well. Just because a game with that many hard core diplo players can't be ignored from my side
