someone suggested it and people thought it would be interesting to try. that's the origins of it and that's what why I'd like to see it tried. we don't know if it's gonna work/not work if we dont try. and if it doesn't, nothing is lost, we'll just continue the game as usual.

10 tech trades is quite a lot
For the record I am cool with anonmyous logins, but I do think it is too much work only to have it eventually fall apart.

I would like to bring up a suggestion.
Perhaps one way we could increase tensions and therefore create more dynamic interaction between people by causing the same occurances that happened in the real world that cause the vast majority of international tensions. . .
Is there a way to make Resources far more limited?
Perhaps, if we're going to use a non-random map, a premade map that really limits resources geographically as compared to limitting them by random seed?
Think of how much more dynamic it would be if only 3-4 empires have Oil and are selling/trading it out, for instance. . .

Good suggestion.
I always thought there were too many resources anyway.
Only problem however with limiting something like oil (or any resorce that is needed for modern weapons) is what happens if those who have it decide to band together?
That, as usual, is just me playing devils advocate. All in all I think it is a good suggestion. Having an oil hot spot like the real life middle east would make for some interesting diplomacy come late game.
Other resorces too. The games map generator seems to like to spread everything out, instead of clustering it to a few spots like tends to happen in real life.

This is true, so maybe a premade map would solve this.
Although, I am against using a premade map because I don't think it would be good if the players knew the map ahead of time, unless of course they didn't. But if we wanted to play this on an Earth map I guess that wouldnt' be too bad."Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. In the earth map I made for our first Civ4 attempt I put a lot of time into figuring out how many of each resource to place. Common ones like cow and deer and such I put wherever, but many strategic resources and happy resources I limited to round around the number of players. And for all the resources I had them geographically based to encourage trade.
I'd be happy to set up another map like this.Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

I change my vote from random map to pre-made as long as it is hidden from all players.

I agree, although I am still a bit worried that if we use an Earth map everyone is going to know the geography already and that may harm the game.
So perhaps a premade ficticious map?"Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. But we can do something better; we can deserve it." -John Adams

Alright, well if we are going to start HOTW XII anytime soon we need to get on the ball here.
First of all, what is a good victory condition for us to use?
Secondly; if we use a ficticious map who is going to make it?
Finally; if we play anonymously are we going to use random starts? how do we determine which civ is who in an anonymous situation? I guess we'd have to work with the map-maker. And if that is the case, perhaps the map-maker can have PWs for everyone as he will be the only one who knows who is who. Another thing that will be an issue is getting subs for absent players; won't that divulge the identity of the country who needs a sub?
These are all things to think about, and I dont' think many of these issues have been discussed."Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. But we can do something better; we can deserve it." -John Adams

If we're playing anonymously we choose our civs through a third party, like the mapmaker, or someone who isnt playing. Like Ozzy, Cyber or Ming. They'll place our civs on the map and take care of things. Then our 'Diplogamer-Aztec' etc logins are created, people log in with them and start posting in the Organization thread. If someone is going to be absent, they post as 'Diplogamer-Babylon' saying "Absent next session, need sub" and such.
I believe we had some consensus that civ's should not be passworded. if people want to cheat, well, then they're ruining the game and have missed the point of it all. the reason no passwords on civs is because of the complications it creates, among other things with subs, or people who forget their passwords etc etc. no passwords, and we need to be specific to tell subs the same. this has been outlined before and it will be announced again at game start.
it seems people are more or less in agreement that we use a premade map, though I am still in opposition, and the general consensus seems to be Ozzy's Earth Map.Diplogamer formerly known as LzPrst
