History of the World 8 - Organisation Thread (Pt2)
See what happens tomorrow, if Pinchak can't join CS (maybe we need to get Pinchak 1st in the lobby, when CS hosts), we have to try Kuno hosting again see what happens than.
I sent PM's to Makeo, Capo, and whiteknight. Hopefully, one can sub. Ill be around until noon tomorrow (EDT) and then im on a plane and wont be around until after game time. If nobody shows to sub, let the AI take over I guess.
If anybody is interested, beer in Montreal is 7.50/pint. That should be considered illegal. Ive never been to a city where I spent twice as much on beer as I did on food. Shame on you, Montreal!!!
weicome to socialist countries that pay for things like health care for those who don't work by taxing things they think are bad for you ridiculously. Unfortunantly America seems to be going that way already the government makes more money of cigarettes than the tobacco companies.

dacole - don't get me started. Canada does things well for the most part. And we don't have the lowest infant mortality rate amongst the original g-7 nations. I wonder who does?
And I don't mind the higher tax rate on income and luxuries. In fact - I believe it makes a lot of sense for a society.
The $7.50 beer in Montreal is not a function of the tax rate - that beer in the beer store is probably $1.50 (Canadian). It is a function of being in Montreal. Great city though.
And besides - wanna know how much I pay for beer when in London, England?
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war .... aw, forget that nonsense. Beer, please.

And while we are on the subject of health care - let me tell you about my friend in Florida - an American - age 53, died of a heart attack after having chest pains for a week or so. But without health insurance he didn't figure he could afford to go have it checked out.
Good healthcare should be a human right in this day and age in an advanced country - not a privilege for those who can afford it.
And I haven't even got started about gun crimes.....

Not everyone here feels the same way you do about health care or basic human rights.
To your first question, no.
To your second point, it was dacole who threw the first stone. We Canadians may be polite and docile and all, but we are proud of what we have, and I wlll always rise to defend it.

well I would question what your friend in florida did I have a problem giving away things to people who don't work sorry but I do. Sorry for assuming montreal taxed beer a whole lot, I agree it is a luxury but that is about 4 dollars more than it costs in america.
I agree luxeries should be taxed I have worked against the 2% food tax in my state food should not be taxed unless it is eaten in a reastaurant.
Yes we have a high infant mortality rate, I don't deny that but those who can afford to come here for health care if you can afford it we have the best health care in the world BECAUSE there is an inducement to get new ways of curing peole for the money that can be made.
The purpose of an economic system is to encourage innovation as that is the ONLY thing that rises all boats.
I have a lot I like about Canada (environmental policy foreign policy gun policy we SUCK in these areas especially recently) but economics isn't one of them *shrug*
I will stop now though even if you respond as this isn't the forum for such discussions I just wanted to make my position clear in as unemotional away as possible

Try as I may... I cannot ignore a political arguement.

Me too. Unfortunately if you work full time minimum wage in america you only make around 10k a year. Some of those jobs do have health plans, but they are usually crappy (expensive and limited coverage).
I feel bad for people who are really trying to make it in an honest fashion, and still get the shaft. It is no wonder America has the crime problem it does.
Universal health care would never work here I am afraid. Too many unskilled lazy scumbags. It would be such a drain on the economy. Universal Health care works in countrys like Netherlands and Canada because they don't have a huge poverty problem, or a large population.
I'm sure someone is going to call me on the "unskilled lazy scumbag" comment, but remember... America does provide free education until college, then it provides loans to almost anyone with the will to further themselfs. I know, I put myself through college with NO help from anyone except the government. I owe for it to this day, but guess what... I have a skilled job that pays well with good health coverage.
And I haven't even got started about gun crimes.....
I assume you are refering to the V Tech incident. Let me tell you... if more people had permits to carry someone would have dropped that guy within 20 seconds.
Unfortunately, most politicians (and lamebrain soccer moms) don't see it that way. I actually just bought a Five-Seven last week for fear they would ban it after that VTech crap.
America is a weird, fantastic, ****ty place all at once. Unfortunatly, the way things are trending, i forsee the bottom falling out.
Stock up on guns, fuel, solar cells, and food... its going to be a wild ride!
Is there any way we can delaly this Friday's game ten or 15 mins? I will be online but overwhelmed with distractions. (Three tourney games for the Clan Championships) The distraction would be some 30 players messaging me at the same time for settling the start of the events, or discussion of problems.
I am starting one event for Canuck Soldier, who will get home and take it over between 6:30 and 7 pm EDT. That should allow me some breathing space for the fun of playing the diplo game.
I was promoted to head tourney director on the ladder so am more responsible for getting the events running smoothly.
I can start the game later, but I can't finish it later.
In fact I must finish it the regular time! (that's half an hour earlier then we usually do, because I always play longer, but this saturday I have to go to the university again.)
Who are missing this session?
Has anybody heard anything from Frank?
