    • Are we even at the confirmation process yet?

I mean part of the reason HOTW IV failed was due to a hurried game-planning process, I think it would be wise of us this time around to avoid that at all costs. It took a while to get HOTW V planned out appropriately, and that worked pretty well, considering.

I think it is best for everyone involved to continue and report who is on the list so far, how many tribes we want, the map, other rules, mods, etc. before we start confirming people for the game, not to mention we've got a lot of people from around the world, again, which makes it difficult to plan what time we are going to play at.

I mean, we were making excel sheets last time just to figure this out, so at this juncture I'd advise against confirming people and instead of that we should simply make lists of who will play, and then from there slim it down to a few.

And BTW, I've been playing Warlords and I like the changes a lot.

      • I think we've got a couple weeks minimum before we get started here. Maybe a month? That's the general feeling. I think we can work out the details by then. We'll have to be somewhat flexible as always.

        • I think we are at the confirming stage; but with a month to test and iron out rules etc. The final players will firm up by the end of this but we need likely commitments now.

          • Well before we decide on time zones we need to figure out who wants to play, right?

And if someone said they want to play in this game back in April, then we shoudln't count on them until we hear from them again and they confirm they are itnerested in playing. So that's all I'm asking for now.

btw, I'm going to be gone for the next week. So keep the ball rolling while I'm gone.

            • Hello all. I know I probably lost a lot trust and worthiness running out from the last HOTW game, but if I could be given another shot at it, I'd really appreciate it.

Either way, hope the game goes well.

              • rolling, rolling, rolling.... cant find rolling, but I found

anyway. yes. this is not something we throw together in a flash. and as it will take a while for everyone to get ready and get their things together we might as well use that time to sort out certain details.

nice to see more people interested in diplogaming, seems that we are a growing community. yeay! go us

Civil, I assume you are familiar with the concept of diplogaming if youve seen these threads around? its not a picnic though, hotw5 went on for several months (technical difficulties prolonged it quite a lot, especially in the first half) and requires quite a lot of dedication. now I must admit I shouldnt be the one asking people to stay the line as I had my vacation for the entire 2nd half of the game (and some early session-skips due to poor priorities, but that wont happen for HOTW7). but let me just make it perfectly clear, I languished knowing that my wonderful empire was in someone elses hands and I hoped that we would call a summer vacation allowing me to finish the last sessions, I loved my civ and hated to leave it .

never mind. the point is, you have to be up and ready for weekly play and post minimum 1 post per session. likely you will be posting a lot more as things get dynamic and hectic, and as ozzy starts threatening, cajoling, blustering and deceiving

the first to decide is obviously:

                1.Who is commited to joining.

Once we have a full list of confirmeds (thats the first thing we need) we need to find a time. unfortunately, we know from experience that during this process some people may drop off as the coordination of 10(+) people spread over multiple continents and timezones and schedules is a real pain in the gluteus area and it just might not be possible for all to play on the time that fits most people.

Like ozzy says, lets get a final list of all those who are interested and willing to put in the required effort. we already have a couple of definites, lets round up the stragglers and sort the zealots from the maybes.

                • Can i ask a quetion.

Why is the issue of tech trading so much a problem?

                  • My belief is no restrictions on tech trading, as common sense should be enough. However, some people disagree, and I don't entirely see why.

                    • No restriction on tech trading meant that everyone advanced too fast, as was pointed out earlier. It also meant that people were similarily advanced, which from a historical perspective doesn't make that much sense.

How about this. You cannot trade techs that you invented/otherwise acquired in the current session; you can only do so 1-2 sessions after. I'd go on to say that all such trades have to be posted in the story thread, but I can understand why some folks will want to keep that sort of thing secret.

                      • Ummm, let me get this straight.

People traded techs, and then got upset when they relaised that meant the other person was now on par with their tech level?

If you trade a tech to someone and they "on trade" it to someone else, then go kic k that persons butt. Declare war and such like, dont make rules to stop the trading or "Gentlemans agreements", the whole point of DIPLO style games is to be underhanded and trade techs with enemies of the player that traded with you.

LEts not make rules that prevent fun.

                        • EDIT: I agree with Ras on this one.

But if we must have a restriction, I would prefer a similar idea, but from the opposite direction... All tech trades are legal, but the trades MUST be annouced and confirmed (with the exact techs to be traded) at least 5 turns beforehand.

                          • Again , no way. I wouldnt want to be forced to expose who i am dealing with in a Game. Ask Ljube how upset he got in an ealry Diplo game when i "onTraded" a tech to his arch enemy!!!

It is al l about the fun.

                              I can commit to this

I just hope it is at a reasonable time

If it is and i'm assuming it will be then

ya i can do this every week

as far as posts go i can handle that

just don't know what say in them as yet

                              without comprismising my civs position

                              but i'll figure it out

                              thanks

I've just had an idea to solve this...

We've been throwing around the possiblity of making HOTW7 a PitBoss game, and I have been in full support of this. Another good reason is the ability to have an umpire who can see every piece of in-game chat, even the private stuff. If we ask an independant person to be our ref, then we could enforce my rule of announcing a tech trade before hand, by making so that we only have to announce to the ref. Who would then be duty bound to keep shtum unless something gets drastically out of hand and someone calls foul.
