  • What benefit is there in agreeing to trades early? When we had alliances, we worked out what each person was to earn in tech and then traded when we had something to share.

All these extra rules indicate a lack of trust in ones play mates. Why doesnt trust exist in this situation? Aren't the players honorable? Who needs big brother to moderate the game?

    • Alright everyone, I've read all of this stuff and here's what I think...

First of all there is no need to have a "ref" of any type, it can be abused and serves no good purpose at all, thus it shouldn't be allowed. Secondly; I think as long as we stick to the rule that you can only trade/give/sell technologies you yourself invented the game will progress better. I mean, announcing tech trades is just ridiculous (sorry if I offended anyone here, but it is ENTIRELY ridiculous), part of the fun of diplogames are the behind the scenes politics, and if we take this to the foreground rather than the background that fun is lost. We're shooting for a game of around 12 players here, last time I checked, and with that amount of people there are going to be a good number of alliances and tech trading will be rampant, so if we stick with the rule that you may only trade techs you invented (I don't think you should be able to trade/give/sell techs you win in war, if you really want your ally to have it make it part of the peace stipulation) we will achieve an appropriate level of progress while maintaining dynamic alliance systems.

More importantly than all of this though is getting a list of players together. We should try and shoot for more than 12 initially because we WILL have players drop, and some of the people in this thread will not be in the game simply because of scheduling issues, so that should be addressed way before we begin discussing tech trading.

      Peace.

      • I agree with Capo. Stick with the simple only trade techs you researched rule. It rewards researching, but allows people far behind to keep up.

I think we should turn our attention to availability and time slots now.

        • Personally, I believe that only trading techs you invented is just as ridiculous as the other ideas, when it comes to enforcing it. My main idea was simply to introduce the concept of forcing a wait between trades, by requiring an 'emissary' to be sent or each trade. This would slow down tech trades, as until the invention of radio, there would be no practical way of updating the emissary on what he is allowed to trade. Thus only the techs that have already been put forward before either party sees what the other party is putting forward could be traded.

My suggestion for a ref was just that... a suggestion. Just a way to enforce the ridiculously unenforcable ideas.

          • we have unfortunately gotten way of course. so I am going to request that we move the "what to do with tech trading" to another thread, I'll make one, and reserve this one for GETTING TOGETHER THE PLAYERS ONLY.

                    • Been looking at some strategy threads and the depth of knowledge is way beyond what i want to spend the time learning. It is just a game i play for fun, not to master.

The study of what terrain types are best i dont get into. I build my cities on any terain type the computer suggest i build on by the BLUE CIRCLE locator. Same as for my workers, I work the Terrain that has the BLUE CIRCLE locator on it. Apart from using some workers to link my citys by road.

I build everything I can and hate to think about city specilisation and which city sohuld have ehich building or wonder built in it.

I never goto war til li have Tanks and a large Tech lead so i know my tanks with some good Cannon backup will take any city i want.

I disable the space race as that is a boring win.

I build the UN not to win by a vote but to get all the other PRoposals enforced.

So basically my lack of wanting to dedicate the time needed to learn all the BEST ways would impede my playing agaisnt certain people.

                      • Find a buddy in the game, ally, and learn. Things get rough more to the end, and we might agree to let you learn a while longer, before the hot stuff rolls in.

I'm not that great at military, but I research well and make a great supporter. I enjoy the company and the fun of watching the story line develop.

                        Give it another thought.

I'm sure that there are many others who would be glad to work with you.

                            • I would play to have the fun of the interaction, but from what i been reading lately, with rules on what techs can or can not be traded , i would find it al l a bit constrictive.

Yes i would be that nation lagging in Techs so would want to acquire them freely from friends. I wouldnt hav egold to spend as in al lmy SP games i never make money.

All i want is to build some great cities with lovely buildings and Role play some interaction.

                              • We often trade techs, no gold involved usually.
Find someone to ally with. Decide who does what tech research, trade.. very simple. Often information of what and why is learned in planning. There is enough time to discuss things in diplomacy or in YIM or AIM.
