remember that with 10+ players the odds that not all will be übercivers is quite high. I am not a number cruncher myself. I just use common sense and a touch of instinct. finding out what is a good city is not difficult, nor is specialization. look for resources that will give you a production bonus and lots of hills if you want a city to be good at production. look for a river if you want to make money. lots of food for a large population allows specialists and great people.
we will gladly give you all the advice you can absorb. also, IMO, turn off the blue circle suggestion thing. it makes you consider things a little resulting in learning.
and finally, you cant expect to build every building in every city. it just isnt possible, and especially not when theres a lot of tech trading going on. prioritizing becomes important. and remember its called a diplogame, meaning the diplomacy of it is the important part and a little wheeling and dealing can make up for non-elite playstyles.
