Yeah, I'm not saying that you were deliberately trying to provoke MasterDave or anything by doing such a move... not that there's anything wrong with it, I've done it before- but you had to know what would happen, especially when MD told you explicitly!

I missed the explicit warning but it really wouldn't have mattered. Again, and maybe it is totally poor strategy, but it was built there as a buffer between MD and my capital. MD built a city on my caps cultural border. I didn't have the resources/power to take it out, so I thoght I would build a city that came wiithin my cap's border and use that city as a blocker.
Either way I was screwed because I didn't have resources soon enough to bud a decent defense. And as MD admitted he was going to attack anyways. So I built a city hoping to slow him down a little as opposed to letting him march straight into my cap. I had just gotten a resource and hoped that would buy me a little time. And as it turned out it did buy me some extra time. I just didn't have the resource soon enough to use the extra time.
Anyways, good game and hope to see everyone this weekend

I'll be around in a bit to play. Barono is working so won't be home for a few hours. I'll check back around 6 central. If there is any interest please post.......
Hopefully a big game. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

What I don't understand is why you left MasterDave?
I was not going to attack you until you told Trev to attack me as peace terms with him!!
I'm a peaceful player and was only going to take one Roman city then make peace. But now with your departure Rome is annhilated
Folks, it's best not to leave games without negotiating. I know it sounds a bit diplo but it's fairer to all concerned if the human players stay on.
And Baron, sorry to be short with you, i mis-judged your intentions. But I must say that pillaging is a low act
I rarely do that. But then again, I might some day

I was having enough trouble just getting to Civil Service with all the maintenance of those acquired cities...
Any chance of continuation or you still not keen on that?"Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "

The only thing about pillaging it deprives the owner of land its benefits, and if you remember you had not taken official use of the lands and therefore open season for a few much needed gold.
It also slows down growth of the city. I usually use it to deprive someone of my resourses when they look like they might take my city out.

It was a game where I had one of my best starts, particularly for money, 2 gold mines in capital as well as about 5 flood plains, gems in city near by, 2 iron, copper in cities adjacent to capital. I started rocketing through the techs, and protecting myself by building military units, leaving all wonders to others, not wanting to risk a lack of military with such a great start. The only drawback which did not become apparent till later was the lack of forests available for chopping.
But MasterDave intervened with a massive assault just as I was facing up to some barb units including axes on the far side, so I had a lot of military in the wrong spot and could not immediately transfer all of it to the action. This allowed him to capture 1 of my 2 cities with iron, which he then began to use to make those dreaded Roman umits. The ware then stalemated, although several times my cities just survived assaults by whipping them down to size 1, I was surviving courtesy of a few gifted units by deity, not many, but just enough to get by.
Being the first to build catapults in the war helped briefly, then shortly after MasterDave quit, I could build maceman and with deity now launching his own assault on MasterDave, the nation was very quickly conquered.
I did not have the ability to survive without deity's aid as in my 4 cities I had a total of about 5 forest squares to chop, usually there would be about that many per city at least and I was only average in hammers. Certainly Dave could throw out the military forces much quicker than I could, maybe he had a lot more forests, or hills to mine. Normally however being 2nd in military strength is enough to deter most attackers, but apparently not Dave, maybe he likes the bigger challenge.
