For Civ II we had a good group of 20 or so players that played on Fridays and Saturday nights. Over time people have dropped off or migrated to IV. People were friendly and cheating was never a big issue. In fact, over the years many in our group have met in RL.
Reading about some of the issues in "public" games, I would prefer not to venture there. I would like to know if anyone would be interested in being part of a group of potential players. We usually play with who is available and in our heydays had multiple games going.
We usually use ICQ for contact, but other forms are OK.
If there's any interest I'll post my ICQ and people can contact me.
In II we had standard settings and rules so less time was wasted starting games. In IV I'm sure the setting will differ frequently.
We like to play for 4-5 hours at a stretch. Usually long enough for someone to be well out in front and see some cities fall. If the games are reasonably even, it's possible that everyone will want to continue.
These are not DIPLO games, but if you play with people regularly, there is a tendency to be slightly (and i mean slightly) less conflict real early. But the SODs will show eventually.
We currently still play more II on Fridays since one of our gathering places doesn't have enough machines capable of playing IV, but that will change evenutually.
We've been exclusive IV on Saturdays and expect it to expand somewhat as more people get involved.
I'm in US central time zone so US players will problaby match up better for playing windows.
WE're not experts at IV by any stretch of the imagination so feel free to come and learn along with us.
