  • The UN Press Conference.

Following the stirring remarks made by Zapatero at the special briefing of the Congreso de los Diputados, the Spanish rank-and-file decided that more protection would have to be used to protect Spanish and potentially Chinese interests (remember the attack was targeting the Indian space program, Spain felt it their duty as allies to protect India, and was now lamenting this treaty obligation's failure) from future attacks similar to the ones in Lahore. Zapatero gained popularity among many Spaniards and openly considered a bid for Prime Minister himself, but as of now there were more pressing matters at hand. In a special press conference the day after the funeral in Delhi at the national shrine, Secretary General Javier Solana would address the press...

    Madras, India...

Javier Solana nervously approached the podium at the press conference. After a few years in office as Secretary General he had only introduced one resolution, calling for global Freedom of Religion, which failed miserably. He felt that if he was to prove his mettle as Secretary General now was the time to do it.

"Greetings members of the press, foreign statesmen, dignitaries and my distinguished colleagues in the United Nations. As you know on the morning of March 15th an explosive device destroyed a factory owned by the Indian Aerospace Inc., killing at least thirty seven workers, injuring many others, and causing tens of thousands of Gold worth in damage to the facility and the equipment. Nobody has been apprehended, and there are a number of potential candidates behind this attack. We don't know much at this point, but we do know a few things. Firstly we know that the assault was not one of a political nature as no group or nation has taken responsability for the attack. The attack was not violent, and was done at a time that there was a minimal amount of staff present, the culprits may have caused more damage than actually intended as there were stockpiles of sensative materials present in the compound which may have made the explosion worse. Again, this very well may have been known by the culprits at the time. The attack seems to have been a diliberate attempt to stymie the efforts of the IASA to produce a ship capable of interstellar colonization, an accomplishment that would have surely gone down in human history has now been destroyed outright by these villains. While evidence is scant, there seems to be some facts that point in the direction of specific nations. Obviously this is going to require a special session of the Security Council similar to those surrounding the attacks that occured in China and England many years ago. There are many issues to attend to, and I understand you have been waiting a very long time so I will now answer some questions from the floor. Yes, Bill from the United States?"

"Thank you secretary, what are the reasons that the terrorists have chosen a peaceful target like an Aerospace Factory?"

"At this point we have a few leads, and it seems that it was either an attack out of retribution or an attack by a country involved in the race to colonize Alpha Centauri, currently the English, Chinese, Germans and Inca seem to be the only other states with this capability."

"Claudio Marquez, Madrid Monitor, is there currently evidence that points to any of these states?"

"Well, there is actually evidence pointing to at least three of those countries, I don't feel at liberty at this point to name any of them though. I would rather have this done at an official meeting of the Security Council, my main concern at this time is controlling the situation from escalating into a war or even worse; a nuclear situation. I will say though, that one particular piece of evidence points very strongly in the direction of one of these states."

"Yes, Bob Woodward, from the Washington Post; directly following the attack it seems that the Germans demanded that Indian troops leave their territory, why did Germany start hard negotiations with India at the very moment after the explosion?"

"Germany is in a state of flux at this point, they have just got over a change in regime following the rule of a dictator. They may be a bit tense. We have yet to get information out of Germany but that was one of the factors we considered. It is true that the Indians did have a force within Germany at the time, and this could have been a reason for the attack if the Germans were behind it, but again this is only circumstantial evidence and at this point nothing else points to Germany. In fact that have denied any involvement in the incident."

"Tommy Wethingtonshirefield, London Times, you claim that England is a potential suspect, if this charge is serious what evidence do you have towards the English?"

"Obviously any state that has the potential to pull off an act like this is a suspect, the evidence is that scant. However I will say out of all the states on Terra the English have the most evidence stacked against them. I spoke with Vladimir Putin, who used to be the head of the Russian KGB and was their commander when the attacks in China took place. According to him this was the work of a professional with huge financial backing, according to our figures the English could afford such a maneuver especially with help from their allies the Inca."

"So you're saying it was England?"

"I did not say it was England, I simply said at this point they would have the most motive, and the most capability to do so. If you really want me to discuss this further I will. But like I said it is better left to the security council."

"What will happen if more attacks like these will be executed?"

"Unfortunately I would have to say that at this point, it is difficult to tell. Russian and Indian agents rushed to the scene following the blast and found no evidence at all concerning the attackers. As far as we know those behind this act are still at large and should be considered dangerous, at this point they could be literally in any nation and your officials should all be on high alert."

"What device specifically was targeted by the assailtants?"

"I can not tell you at this point, that is classified information and the Indian government does not wish for it to become public knowlege."

"What nations have cooperated thus far in the hunt for these terrorists?"

"I would first like to correct your terminology before I answer that question, and this is something I tried to stress earlier in the press conference. The people of Terra have little to worry about, this seems to have been a professional operation meant only to hit the equipment the factory was producing. The explosion was large but the majority of it was caused by other materials that were on the premises. In fact, the person responsible could have died in the explosion, we just don't know at this point in time. But I just want to stress that the likelihood of this occuring again is very small, and the general public should not worry about it as this attack doesn't appear to be one that wanted a large amount of casualities. But as far as what nations have cooperated; so far the Indians have cooperated, the Russians have cooperated and to a much smaller degree the Spanish have cooperated."

"Considering this act was not done out of violence, but in a strategic way how will the UN react if they discover who has done this? Josef Moeller, Germany."

"Well, I assure you Josef, we WILL find out who is behind this attack, and as I've said we have some sensative information that has been shared with the Indian government, and we already have a few leads. My point earlier was just to say that we are not exactly sure who did it yet, and we are dedicated to finding out who has. We must be sure though, and we want to be especially in an age where a nuclear war is a reality. As far as how the reaction will be, well we have to make sure that the penalty fits the crime not only in the severity, but also the cost."

"Will these nations help India to get on track with it's SS production by sending help from their own engineers?"

"Again, until we judge the extent of the damage in a proper forum, such as the Security Council and see what decision is made at that juncture. From what I can say now though, I am sure the penalty will involve some form of cash and probably equipment itself in some way, shape or form."

"Is a military strike a possibility?"

"Again, it is difficult to say, and once we have all of the information we can determine a response. I don't want to rule anything out, especially considering the militarization that has occured lately throughout Terra. Please, last question."

"What do you say to critics that believe the UN to be ineffective and impotent?"

"Well concerning this issue we just need some time, Delhi wasn't built in a day you know; I mean the United Nations is a cooperative entity, if we don't cooperate we will get nowhere. And I will have you know that last time the UN got the right country, it just turned out that they didn't admit it until much later. This time we will find out who is behind this, and they will answer for their actions. Thank you very much..."

    • It was a wonderful day in Toledo as Prime Minister Aznar and King Juan Carlos held their monthly meeting at Versailles, unlike most others this one had plenty of issues to discuss; firstly the coming of age of Prince Felipe, then there was the Three Gorges Dam recently built upon the Ebro river near Madird, the new diplomacy with the United States of America, and obviously the situation in India. For Aznar though, the meetings were not over, he had to entertain members of the Spanish scientific community who were interested in starting Spain's very own space program, and on top of all this he still had to find time to talk with Spanish Representative to the UN Juan Luis Zapatero; confidentially he loathed Zapatero, and really didn't want to meet with him. He did manage to avoid an official meeting, and offered to speak with him in the garden of Versailles...

      Versailles, Toledo...

"Hello Juan." Prime Minister Aznar said as he shook the Foreign Minister's hand, his advisor handed him a manila folder filled with useless documents, Zapatero annoyed him and he wanted to look busy "I have a lot of meeting scheduled today, and I'm not sure that I can speak with you for very long." he said, handing the folder back to his advisor.

"That is fine, I am quite busy myself" Zapatero lied "I've got to be back to Madras for the Security Council meeting, so I should try and keep this brief."

"Yes, you should" Aznar replied "I didn't think they scheduled the Security Council meeting yet?"

"Well, um, no they haven't, but there's still plenty going on down there. I have come to ask you about some confidential matters though Prime Minister." Zapatero said, looking at Aznar's advisors.

"Oh I see, Maria, Reynaldo, I'll see you at the car okay?" the Prime Minister said, dismissing his advisors "Now, what is the matter Juan?"

"Well, honestly Jose, there's something strange about what Secretary Solana said, he told me that Spain was cooperating with the investigation, yet he hasn't really provided anything yet. And I figured since I am the ACTUAL representative of Spain in the UN I should be privy to whatever we have done for the investigation, especially if I am to speak for us at the Security Council meeting."

"I see," the Prime Minister replied "Listen, the problem with this issue is that you are very open with what you say, and the information we have is very delicate, especially when you consider the nuclear threat. India is very angry about this, and if we point the finger in the wrong direction it could spell disaster for everybody."

"Yes, I understand that sir, but isn't it a little odd that information such as this is being kept from me? I am the UN representative, and this is a UN issue, is it not?" Zapatero responded.

"Well, it is also a national security issue for India, and I know how you are, you'll go rattling off as soon as I tell you what we know, and we can't have that happen. Not until we get all of our ducks in a row."

Zapatero stopped walking "What is that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing, listen, just a few years ago we were enemies with the Indians, and the Russians, and the Americans, and now I've changed that. I don't want what I've accomplished to get f*cked up just because India thinks this attack is worthy of a nuclear strike, or if they respond militarily and then we've got a nuclear holocaust on our hands. Especially if WE provide the information, do you understand me Juan?" the Prime Minister said sternly, he was standing dangerously close to Zapatero.

"I'd appreciate it if you didn't take that tone with me... sir." Zapatero said.

"I apologize, it has just been a stressful year for me, alright? Listen, if you must know the fact of the matter is that our own spies have found that the Inca have been producing spies and sending them to Russia, the Russians swear they returned them."

"What does that have to do with anything?" Zapatero quickly asked.

"Well, nothing on its face, but our own agents have shown that the English experienced a nuclear meltdown in the city of Trufan, this could have caused problems with their space program, and everybody knows the English are competing directly with India to make it to Alpha Centauri first, that is not a question. For their part the English have built up a strong military force along the Russian border in Inca territory; if you add all of this up it seems that the English may have been behind these attacks, and very well could have Incan backing. Do you understand why we need to keep this hush hush until we are sure?" the Prime Minister explained.

"That doesn't seem like sufficient information to make a case against the English, if that is what you think, so what should I-"

"I don't want you to do anything Juan, just wait for the Security Council meeting to be announced officially, obviously I will brief you on it later." the Prime Minister said, as he shook Zapatero's hand and walked away, he stopped and turned back around "Oh yes, I nearly forgot, remember you represent Spain, and I represent Spain's government. So don't do anything until you hear from me first, alright?"

      "Yes sir." Zapatero replied.

"And oh yes, good luck with your campaign." Aznar said sarcastically as he approached his limo. Lorenzo Asturias, Zapatero's advisor was standing close to the gates.

"So what'd he say?" Lorenzo asked Zapatero.

"Nothing really, I'll talk to you about it later, it seems like Aznar isn't being very frank with me, like he knows more than he is letting on." Zapatero said as he watched Aznar's limo leave.

"Well, we've got a plane to catch soon sir, we should leave pretty soon." Lorenzo said.

"Yeah, you're right. You know what though Lorenzo? We've got some time, I think we should stop by Barcelona before we go back to Madras." Zapatero said.

      "For what?"

"That's where the Spanish Intelligence Headquarters, isn't it? I think its time we paid General Ruiz a visit..."

      • The Hawks in the Theocratical Conservative Party (TCP) had influence in MI5. The latest intelligence showed that India would deploy her SS within 26 time units. Thatcher was down but trying hard to not be out. Influencing parliament to make a decision was a bold move but by no means certain. The TCP saw Madras as a ‘target’ and wished the English SS to be deployed first. War was second nature to them, political manoeuvring and superficial prestige drove them.

        • Fortunately for the world England was currently led by a moderate, intelligent and visionary leader. A man made by the people and was for the people and anything science had to offer was for the benefit of all people – whether it be material or spiritual.

His speech to parliament was breathtaking.

“India and possibly China will be the first to launch the SS but England would soon follow. There are people among us who would have us destroy what we ourselves desire for all human kind. Madras is the most likely location of the first Terra SS.

Soon all nations will build an SS and TOGETHER we shall explore the reaches of space. For, no one nation can bear the cost of inter-planetary exploration and it is essential that all nations of Terra co-operate, firstly to build an international space station using our collective SS resources and secondly to build together a much better SS capable of exploring and transporting human settlers to the reaches of space, beyond the Terra System.

I know there is life out there. Intelligent life on Terra-like planets. Such likely systems have already been discovered telescopically. It will be the citizens of Terra under our shared guidance of the United Nations that this planet will unite as one and reach out…

I am a peaceful man as you all know. English civilisation has grown phenomenally and powerfully. We can influence the fate of Terra. If anyone in this parliament is plotting or scheming to bring down the efforts of any other nation it will be deemed an undemocratic act and my new act of parliament, the “Counter Espionage Act”, will see that any guilty parties are prosecuted and penalised by the full weight of the law.

Fortunately, at this time, none of our spies have been used for any destructive purposes. They serve us better in gathering intelligence. We have built only one Scotland Yard and our 4 spies are available for any of the international community to confirm our innocence in the latest bout of allegations regarding sabotage in India and elsewhere.

Any espionage acts against nations building an SS will be dealt with accordingly. I implore the nations of the world to not allow it to come to this..."

          • Under Khrushchev, the modernization of the Red Army began in earnst; he also continued the construction of the Baltic Sea fleet. Following the lifting of the atomic ban, and the subsequent profiliation of nuclear knowhow across the globe, the RSSR also wasted no time in stockpiling its own collection of ICBMs. The indoctrination of the Stalin years, meanwhile, was rolled back, in favor of a more hands-off approach to managing the population. But the basic principle of the Party didn't change; that is, that it, and only it, spoke for the proletriat.

One resolution from the United Nations changed all that.

The RSSR was the only nation in the world not to have the freedom of speech; considering that as Imperial Russia, it was also one of the first to encounter liberal ideals, this was something of an historical anamoly. When the Indian Secretary General moved for universal freedom of speech, the RSSR was bitterly opposed. But under pressure from the rest of the world, Khrushchev had no choice. The year that 'glasnot' was declared, with UN observers overseeing the process, was to be a significant moment in the history of the Russian people.

In less than a year, all the emotion and anger that had been kept under the lid came boiling to the surface. In Leningrad, Novgorod and even Moscow, students took to the streets to demonstrate against the Soviet government. Initially, fearing an international backlash, Khrushchev refrained from cracking down on the protestors. This move was bitterly opposed by those conservative elements still in the party; ironically, led this time by Defense Minister Zhukov. This culminilated in a coup d'etat, one year after the start of glasnot. Zhukov and his allies took control of the Supreme Soviet, and in a brutal show of force, sent in tanks to suppress the student uprisings. The most dramatic confrontation took place in the Red Square of Leningrad, where, in what was to be known as "Bloody Tuesday", over 3000 protestors died. This was the breaking point; one month later, the Novgorod section of the Red Army broke with the main body, and led by Field Marshal Vladimir Putin, they marched on Moscow. Most ironically, Putin also happened to be the former head of the KGB under Stalin, and had gone into semi-retirement when the dictator passed away. This has led to much speculation about his aims, none of which have been confirmed.

At any rate, under increasing pressure, the coup leaders finally fled Russia, and Khrushchev resumed power. He immeadiatedly ordered the army to return to the barracks. But the damage was already done. The Russians was now united in demanding an equal say in government. More significantly, some were looking back nostalgically upon the 'glory days' of Imperial Russia. Such thoughts, naturally, led to Anastasia Romanov, and by extension, her Free Russian Republic government.

Two years after the start of glasnot, Pope John XVII formally broke with the Soviet government, and openly invited Anastasia and her entourage to return. When they did so, it was to a wild welcome. Riding on this tide, Anastasia headed first to Rostov, then to Leningrad, where she witnessed first-hand the tearing down of the huge statue of Lenin that was such a hallmark of the Soviet years. There too, she met up with Putin, where they entered into extensive talks. In the end, everyone descended upon Moscow itself. It was clear that the Supreme Soviet had lost all power, and Khrushchev was at a loss.

Three years after glasnot, on May 1, Khrushchev resigned as General Secretary of the Supreme Soviet. Two days later, Anastasia arrived in Moscow, and proclaimed the end of the Russian Soviet Socialist Republic. Henceforth, the Republic of Russia would take its place among the nations of Terra. As a symbol of the changing times, she allowed the name of Leningrad to revert to St. Petersburg - the original and now current name of that great city.

            Comment

            • Anastasia was at the head of a caretaker government, in the run up to the first elections ever held in Russia. Her 'Democratic Party of Russia' was to compete directly with 'Russia for Russians', a party set up by Putin immeadiatedly after the dissolution of the RSSR. As per the newly drafted constitution, Putin resigned his commission in the army, becoming a private citizen. In the subsequent elections, Anastasia won a landslide victory of 75% of the votes. This reflected the increased confidence and new-found pride that the Russians had found in themselves, as well as the blessing of the new Spanish-born Pope, John Paul I.

Now nearing the end of her first official term in office, Anastasia's Democratic Party of Russia prepares to run for a second consecutive term. The venerable leader has stated that this will be the last time she stands for elections. Here is a look at the party lists and candidates in the upcoming elections:

              Joseph Brodsky, 75
An outstanding poet in his own right; another critic of the government. Resides in St. Petersburg, after long years of exile in Beijing. It is rumored that he had an affair with Anastasia, and that Anna was the result; none of the parties involved have confirmed or denied it.

              Vladimir Gusinsky, 48

              Boris Berezovsky, 57
The aforementioned eccentric tycoon supporting the Motherland Party. He is tied to various broadcasting networks and other media, and also has his fingers in the military-industrial complex, as well as the lucrative Russian energy business. Russia's first billionaire, and officially the richest Russian around.

              • The United Nations of Terra

TO: Prime Minister Harold Wilson of England
FROM: Javier Solana, Secretary General of the UN
CC: India, China, Germany, Russia, America, Inca, and Spain

In our ongonig investigation regarding the bombing in Lahore, there are numerous signs that point in England's direction. We are not attempting to accuse the English of such an act, however, we would be foolhardy in ignoring the points of evidence we currently have in front of us.

With that said, we understand that in your Parliament you gave a rousing speech denying English responsibility for what occured and even stated that your "4 spies are available for any of the international community to confirm our innocence in the latest bout of allegations regarding sabotage in India and elsewhere." Well Mr. Wilson, on behalf of the United Nations and the people of Terra I ask that you do just that.

I will await your response in my offices in Madras, I'm sure it shouldn't take you too long as you clearly already have a spy there.

(So deity, I guess pull up your military screen and click your spies, that way you don't divulge the rest of your military or anybody elses. I expect the picture soon.)

                Thank you,

                Javier Solana
Secretary General of the United Nations

                  • General Ruiz approached the cubicle of Corporal Aldo Alvarez, a young intelligence officer at the Civil Guard, the unofficial intelligence office of Spain. Aldo was a bright young man; the son of immigrants from the Incan city of Numidia he had risen through the ranks of the Civil Guard and had become one of the best recon officers in the entire Spanish Intelligence Complex. "This better be good Aldo, I've got a lot of phone calls to make, and the UN Rep is coming here in a couple of days, he's going to want to hear some information."

"Please sir, sit down." Aldo said, offering General Ruiz his chair "This is some interesting information I have here. According to this the-"

"I can read it Alvarez, I can read it." the General said looking over the information "Hmm, can this be confirmed?"

                    "Absolutely sir." Aldo said confidently.

"Alright, you get this information to Madrid as soon as possible. You tell nobody anything, do you understand?"

                    "Completely." Aldo replied.

                    Three Days Later...

The Civil Guard was established under the Junta of General Baldomero Espartero, during the heyday of the liberal movement. Espartero mainly used the Civil Guard to protect Spaniards from local Carlist militias, but it eventually was used to stamp out Communists, Fascists and Anarchists who threatened the liberal Junta. Following the rise of Franco it became a more secretive group that was used to systematically remove those who would oppose the fascist regime. Under Franco it evolved into a truly clandestine organization which is said to have been responsible for the death of thousands of innocent Spaniards. After Franco, the group was put under the control of the military and turned its attention to international espionage, with missions in both China, Concordia, and America (mostly with international cooperation). Now since the latest bombings in Lahore it would prove to be an invaluable resource to Juan Luis Zapatero; Spain's representative at the UN.

"Right this way Mr. Zapatero." an MP said as he walked towards the office of General Ruiz, the head of the Civil Guard "General Ruiz will see you now sir."

General Antonio Ruiz was formerly in command of the Fascist forces in Toledo during the early troubles between Fascist Spain and Communist Russia. Regardless of his position, however, he was an ardent Liberal who secretly aided Adolfo Suarez-Gonzalez in his insurgency, and traded state secrets of the Falange to numerous authorities. When Franco died, General Ruiz found himself the highest ranking officer who was not of Falangist ilk, and quickly rose to the head of the Civil Guard, an organization he changed from armed Fascist thugs, to an elite intelligence organization, "Mr. Zapatero" the General said standing to shake his hand "Welcome to my humble office, I hope everyone was cordial with you."

"Of course General, do you mind if I sat down?" Zapatero asked.

"Please, please" Ruiz said, sitting down himself "So, I assume we're here to talk about the bombing in Lahore."

                    "How'd you guess?" Zapatero asked.

"Its been all over the news, apparently Wilson over in England has made a speech to his Parliament, claiming no responsibility on the part of the English." the General said.

"Right, Solana has asked for proof that English spies are nowhere around the area, so hopefully we can get this over with soon. I sincerely doubt that-" Zapatero began, but the General quickly interrupted him.

"Mr. Zapatero, what have you come for?" the General asked "I can't figure it out, you should be privy to more information than I am, you work for the UN, and yet you come into my office and start repeating what has been said over and over again on the news. Why are you here?"

"Quite frankly, I've discussed this with the Prime Minister, and he seems to be holding something back, I wanted to come here and discuss the issue with you, someone in the intelligence community." Zapatero replied.

"So you want me to share what we know with you. I see, this situation is quite delicate Mr. Zapatero, there are a lot of nations with a stake in what happens here, and two of them happen to be the big space powers. Unfortunately, we are also talking about a nuclear stand-off, we are talking about economic sanctions, well frankly nobody knows how far this is going to go, so nobody wants to make a bold move." the General explained, as he stood up and looked out of the window "I know a lot though, and a lot of the information I'm sure you'd love to get your hands on, but see, I don't work for you Mr. Zapatero, and honestly my interest does not lie in fomenting a war that the UN won't be able to control."

"Why all this talk of war?" Zapatero asked "I demand a response, Aznar said the same thing, nuclear this and nuclear that. Why does it have to be like that?"

"Mr. Zapatero, I'm sure Aznar told you of the English build-up in Incan territory?" the General asked.

                    "He did."

"Well, why would they do that? Think about it, they're in the midst of a huge space race with the Indians, its costly, and it takes a lot in money and resources. Then there's a nuclear meltdown in Trufan, now a nuclear meltdown also costs a lot of money, in resources and manpower. Now consider this; if you're in the midst of a costly space race, and you have a nuclear meltdown that not only disrupts your production of space parts, but also costs more in clean-up, and damage, what is the best way to make the competition more level?" the General said.

"Are you saying the English bombed Lahore?"

"I'm not saying they did, I'm saying it makes sense, and frankly it explains their military build-up in Incan territory, our own spies indicate that the Incas were producing freelance agents of their own, which they attempted to sell to the Russians, the Russians claim that they did not accept and I believe them." the General explained "It could have even been an Incan spy, which explains the build-up as well, my only point is that there are far too many arrows pointing to England, and none pointing anywhere else."

"Hmm" Zapatero said "Well, I've got to get back to the UN, you've been very helpful."
"Our cause is in the hands of fate. We can not guarantee success. But we can do something better; we can deserve it." -John Adams

                    • National Shrine - Delhi

It was a long day of mourning in India. The bombing was a national tragedy. What was increasingly looking like an act of foreign aggression was the first such act on Indian soil in centuries. The nation came together in grief that day.

The public support was massive. Thousands of mourners lined the streets around the shrine to watch the lengthy procession of caskets down Chandragupta Way in Delhi to the National Shrine. The funeral service lasted for hours and was broadcast live on Indian tv.

President Jawaharlal Nehru spoke, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai of IASA spoke, Hindu religious leader Vinayak Damodar Savarkar spoke, Mohandas Gandhi spoke, as did many other public figures, religious leaders, and family members. The overall tone was one of respect for the dead and commitment to the cause they sacrificed their lives to. If anything the bombing had strengthened the resolve of India to send a colony to Alpha Centauri - and to be the first to do so.

President Nehru vowed that justice would be done.

Press Conference - UN Headquarters - Madras

President Nehru and the rest of the world tuned in to see the live broadcast of the UN Special Report on the Lahore bombing. In a joint report issued by the United Nations Anti-Terrorism Department, India's Research and Analysis Wing, Spain's Civil Guard, and the Russian KGB, evidence has finally been made public regarding the Lahore bombing. For some time the English have been the prime suspect, ahead of other suspects the Chinese & Germans, however after an intense investigation the Chinese & Germans have cleared of wrong doing in this matter. The only remaining suspect is England.

The most damning piece of evidence was multiple eye witness accounts of an English made Aston Martin DB5 speeding away from the scene of the crime. Satilite recordings tracked the car north across the Russian border. Border police report speaking with a charming English man, driving an Aston Martin DB5 on that day. His papers checked out so they saw no need to stop him, but it is clear now that this was the sabatouer. Russian authorities are currently looking for this man.

Together with intelligence that certain elements within the English government had infiltrated MI5, and sought to use it to bring down India's space program, the findings of the investigation are near conclusive.

Nehru was as shocked as the rest of the world to learn that England was behind it. Certainly England was suspected all along, as well as Germany & China, due to their competing space program. But to see the evidence that England, a nation India had nominally friendly relations with since the Great War, has bombed India surprized and enraged the nation.

This hostile act would not be taken lying down. President Nehru immediately boarded a plane for Lahore, he feverishly wrote a speech in response to this.

Ruins of Indian Aeronautics Building - Lahore

I want you all to know that India today is on bended knee in prayer for the people whose lives were lost here, for the workers who work here, for the families who mourn, this nation stands with the good people of Lahore, as we mourn the loss of dozens of our citizens and the partial destruction of an important mission for mankind.

The men who did this, the English dogs who did this, may have destroyed this building, and destroyed the lives of many innocent men & women, but they have not and will not destroy our resolve to continue to push forward with this important mission to Alpha Centauri. Our determination remains strong and our will unflinching.

This project represents a peaceful endevor for the good of mankind. Like the moment we had when Rakesh Sharma first walked on the moon, we had a chance at a moment of togetherness and brotherhood. But that has all been incinerated with an English bomb.

This bombing was an act of war, and I intend to treat it as such. The Indian military has been activated to DEFCON 2 and are deploying along the Russian-Incan border.

I will however not see more innocent blood spilt if it can be avoided, so I issue the following ultimatum. England has exactly three days to respond and accept a UN brokered punishment for their actions or war will be upon us.

                      *cheers from the crowd*

I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.

                        • The Hagia Sophia, Moscow, Russia

"Do you, Anastasia Romanov, pledge to perform your duties as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Russia?"

"Yes. In performing my duties as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Russia, I pledge to respect and protect the rights and liberties of every citizen; to observe and protect the Constitution of the Republic; to protect the sovereignty and independence, security and integrity of the state and to serve the people faithfully. And so help me God."

                          Several hours later

The old Imperial Palace had been converted into the headquarters of the Supreme Soviet in the RSSR era. Now it served as the seat of the Russian Duma, and accordingly, it was now known as The Republic House. Amidst the sprawling grounds, a small summer house had been converted into the Prime Minister's Office, and it was here that Anastasia was now resting in, her eyes closed.

The intercom beeped. "Ma'am, Ambassador Andrey Denisov is on the line. Will you receive him?"

Anastasia suppressed a sigh, and opened her eyes, a tired smile on her face. "Yes, please connect him."

"Yes, ma'am. Please wait." There was a brief click, and then a gruff male voice sounded over the speakerphone.

"Good afternoon, Prime Minister. First, let me congratulate you on your party's victory."

"Thank you, Denisov. You didn't call just to heap laurels upon me, did you?"

A chuckle sounded from the other end of the line. "It is only polite. Putting that aside, you must have seen the latest speech by President Nehru."

"Yes, I am aware. The English have not responded yet, but all signs are that they will protest their innocence."

Denisov snorted. "After all that evidence that the Sluzhba Vneshney Razvedki (SVR) and Federal'naya Sluzhba Bezopasnosti (FSB) helped uncover? That is disingenious, to say the least."

"I have to agree. The RSSR was implicated on the grounds of less evidence than this, and punished accordingly. But it could be that Prime Minister Wilson really does believe that he is innocent."

"Ha! So are you saying that there are rogue elements at work?"

"I am saying that it is a possibility. You remember your history, don't you? Then you must recall the differences between Manning and Alfred, and how that played out. Remember also the Zionists from even further back in history. What I mean is, while there is pretty damning evidence that we have seen, it is not completely certain, and of course we still await the English response. But putting that aside, I assume that you are asking for instructions on what to do if India's ultimantum expires?"

"More of a confirmation, Prime Minister. If I may voice my opinions?"

                          "Please, go ahead, Ambassandor."

"India is clearly out for blood. The signs that I see in the Security Council seem to imply that Spain, at the very least, will not stop India. My view is that Russia must come down on the side of India. We know about the deployment of the Northern Alliance along our borders. So far we have not acknowledged it publicly, but other nations have already noted it, and we cannot allow this threat to our national security to remain."

Anastasia smiled slightly. "You did read Nehru's speech thoroughly, didn't you?"

There was a short pause. "So you approved of the Indian deployment?"

"They have every right," the Prime Minister responded. "And you are also right about this dagger aimed at the heart of Russia. Should India launch an attack, I am sure that Inca will join their English allies. And when that happens, Russia will have to join on the side of India. I hope it does not come to that, but I am pessimistic."

                          "So my instructions..."

"...are to see that justice is done. Abide by the resolutions that the UN drafts. Work for a peaceful resolution if possible, but be prepared to propose a 'peacekeeping' force should the need arise." Anastasia paused briefly, before she continued. "We will be debating Nehru's speech in the Duma tomorrow. If there are any changes, I will let you know."

"Please do. Thank you, Prime Minister."

"Look, just get the inteligence out there now!" boomed Wilson.

"I'll deliver my speech to the world later on. I'm so upset about this. After all my goodwill it is deceit and mistrust still, in this day and age. I genuinely want to wish India and China well. Has no one noticed or trusted in what I have said? Jeolous nations just stirring up trouble and pointing the finger. I wonder who did bomb Lahore though but not even my opposition had access to our spies. They all still exist and continue to provide what all spies are primarily trained for - intelligence. Or has that escaped the attention of most nations?"
