  • As far as I know Dragon will play.
    He said he stopped playing at 3am our time, as we agreed in advance. He had to get up early the day after. He didn't say that he was unhappy with the situation.

    The thing is that the daylight saving changes have changed our playtimes.

          Ljube said he's happy to sub or take over if required btw - even if it's just for part of the session. Same with DD and Frank too so it's great to have such great subs around.

            • I hear you Capo but the way it goes if tech trading is allowed is that we all end up with the same techs (within a few techs). All civs seem to operate selfishly I find and my efforts to get a tech bloc going are failing.

              I'm now thinking that Frank and all the others who proposed no tech trading are correct but too late for this game.

              I tell you it's going to get tedious if we all secretly or overtly spread the techs around with friends and foes alike.

              My suggestion is a rule. This would make the game more intersting and exciting.

              How about this?

              1) Only trade techs with alliance members as published in the story thread prior to each session; and for the duration of that session only with confirmation of alliance or changed alliance between sessions or during a session if so decided.
              2) Alliances are clearly outlined in the thread or private PM's if secret (but can be verified after the game if necessary)
              3) Maximum of 3 members per alliance
              4) Only a member of ONE alliance at a time
              5) Perhaps only if you invent a tech can you trade it (see below but hard to remember or police)*

              Please think about this or techs will become completely devalued.

              If the English decide to not trade techs and everyone else does we will fall way behind and are forced into the same boring deal.

              *The other annoying thing is that if you are the first to get a tech you should have a sole right during that turn to trade it but as soon as you trade with one it goes from there like wildfire

              I see a few problems with the tech trading issue. The first is the "you can only trade if allied" plan, which is an unfair thing to do because not all countries are allied. How do you enforce it anyway? What about a secret alliance? What if you make a simple trade agreement? Could that be considered an alliance?

              Not to mention the inherent unfairness in the alliance you claim to be part of, which includes five countries, and the one I am actually in which includes ONE; mine.

              If you aren't going to allow tech trading you have to do it accross the board, if you are going to allow it then people are going to trade technologies. My nation is very large and hard to maintain, so sometimes I have to rely on trading techs when money is tight. I think the bigger issue we should be discussing is why techs are being traded. Obviously the big alliances in the game (English/Inca/Germany and India/Russia/China) seem to be the ones that produce the technology, if they are also the ones giving it away who's really to blame for it?

              I mean, is it that out of control right now? Are we THAT far ahead of the year? Islam was founded in 1010 ad, in real life it was around 500 ad (if I am not mistaken), is the situation really that bad?

                  • Yeah, deity's rules seem to be pretty cool. Will we be implementing them from the next session onwards? If we decide to adopt them that is.

                        • Well, with those three confirmations it seems we are all ready to go tonight. LzPrst has done posting, and hasn't said he wasn't playing so I assume he'll be showing up, if you see this before the session Lz just let us know you're going to be there for our own edification.

                          As for the Dragon issue; the reason I questioned his availability was not becuase he left, but because he said he wasn't having fun (ie just hitting enter each turn) and I figured he may be a no-show because of that. If he's playing fantastic, I was simply saying we should plan in case he doesn't. Now, I further based this on the fact that he didn't post, either here or in the story-board. Regardless; if we have Ljube or Schtix available this will go well.

                          As far as Deity's plan goes, I think we should halt on implementing it, we should all play with an understanding that we shouldn't trade techs willy-nilly, the fact is we picked marathon for a reason, so if you can do without certain techs you should do so; on the same note we need to figure out some way to make tech trading fair, for future games that is. I'm not sure that limiting it, or removing it from the game is good, mainly because I see diplogames as using the "raw materials" civilization provides and manipulating them however you can for diplomatic advancement, this sadly includes technologies. We can either learn to deal with this, which doesn't seem likely based on this issue even coming up, or figure out a way to allow tech trading but at the same time allow certain techs, units, improvements, what have you become useful. Its hard, and it is something the diplogaming community will have to address. Perhaps the next game we set up will handle this?

                          Speaking of Deity; did anyone read his latest posts in the story-thread? What the hell is he smoking, and how much does it cost?!?! Where did that picture come from and what exactly is going on in it?

                              • Did you guys btw see the map in the other thread!
                                It's really amazing how I'm still involved in this crappy game! In a normal SP game I would've restarted like 1000 times ago!

                                Oh well, next game I'll take revange on you guys, and on India most of all
