No rules, anything goes, were all learning still so play a little nice for awhile anyway.
Other settings can vary depending what we feel like.
    Just a few queries:

What exact map/climate settings will you be using?

Should Barbs be on? Maybe it's a bit unbalancing - we don't want quitters!

Only problem with turning barbs off is that it means you can expand very quickly. At lest with Barbs it helps slow everyone down even limting people who are a bit more skilled or familar with civ iv from rushing everyone.

As for climate we can change that to suit, but normaly just temperate. Maps, well i was thinking of using continents. This will give us a slit of two big islands with a number of civs on both of them. Allows early contact and maybe some interesting diplomacy against stronger players. This will help weaker players if they band together to stay alive.

Teamspeak sounds good. Ill have to d/l it tomorow after work.

Cyas all 8pm tomorrow. Try and get there early if you can so we can disucss things and sort out the game. Looking forward to a great sesssion. Cyas then.

          Sorry about dropping like that.

I think my modem has had it, it periodically stops responding altogether. I can be in the middle of soemthing and the connection lights will go off and it won't reconnect no matter what I do. The only way to get it going again is to reinstall the drivers, but tonight that didnt even work. I'm sorry if you guys waited for a while I was trying to get back as fast as I could but nothing was working

No apologies needed Bumble Bee-I was having similar difficulties-though my difficulties are entirely graphics related. May I ask what video card you guys have, and which is best to have (money is not a huge deal in my decision making, btw!) Thanks in advance.

Well a good session really considering we had 10 player. Yes a number did have problems but this was expected in the first big MP game of civ iv.

No problems BB & Aussie. Just try and sort out the probs this week so yous can jump in next saturday. All i know Aussie is i have a radeon X8500 256 card, i have all the latest drivers before i installed and ive never had one prob with civ iv.

I will post another thread here for this game, later today. This will be where updates for this game and AAR after each session can be posted.

Thankyou for everyone who turned up, the session went better then most new games ive played in a large group for the first time. Once BB and aussie sort out there problems should be smoth sailing.

Also had probs with deity joining before the game started. I'll do research to see if the game is limited to 10 MP players, but i doubt it, game ran smooth with people all with the right connection and hardware, no reason why 18 couldnt play.

Anyway next session is at 7pm Next saturday. Off to work now, cyas.

                What a disappointment

I was so looking forward to this game but the evidence suggests that my inabilty to connect to an 10/11 player game is a problem at my end.

I've had no trouble connecting to up to 3 or 4 player games and last night when Mike re-hosted I got in as player 7 with no problem... BUT once I was in the other 4 players couldn't get in.

Without me those 10 players played relatively successfully.

I had all firewalls off (software and hardware) for the connection attempts.

I'm suspecting it might be my router. I have a separate 4 port Belkin router from my ADSL modem (1500/256). Each device has it's own IP and software.

The Telstra ADSL modem is 10.0.0.1 - configured to give me a static IP address (in a strange Telstra way I might add - it's not set in Network properties for that connection)

The Belkin router is 192.168.2.1 and it assigns the IP range for my home network. The computer I'm on is 192.168.2.2.

I'm suspecting the router and or Telstra's configurations.

Is anyone else a Telstra ADSL bigpond.net client?

The first thing I have to do is connect directly without using the router so if there are 10 players ready to roll give me a shout!!

If that works then it's the router. If it still doesn't work it's freaking Telstra!

Hey Deity, you are amongst fellow Civfans here-and I for one would NEVER begrudge a fellow civfan a chance to be a part of such a big MP game experience-even if it means waiting half an hour or more to do so. Plus, as I said last night, to me 15-30 minutes out of a 4 hour game session really seems like no biggie to me at all ! See you guys online next week, as my glorious Egyptian Empire continues to develop, and as I track down the SOB who built MY PYRAMIDS before me !!!

                      Yours,

That was major ball, he stole your pyramids, WAR go reclaim them.

Dont fear deity, you will sort it out.

Now i would also like to start a game to be played during the week. This game can be played on a few nights during the week, dosnt have to be set nights we can move it to suit people. I think this game will invole less players, but is deisnged for those of us that have more free time then others.

So if you are interested im going to start some invidual threads for our games here, with apportaite names and dates.

Looking at a wedenesday night from 7pm-11pm, for this week.

Hi M-M. Wednesday night would be good, but could we do a 7:30 or 8:00 start? Its just that its 7 yo 7:30 my time, which is probably the earliest I can be home by AND get something to eat. That will still allow us a 3 hour game (and hopefully we won't lose so much time to me dropping out!)

                          Yours,

Im kinda surprised after returning to this site after yonks at the seemingly large aussie representation here, looks like a decent size community going that I didnt know about. O_O I've played all the civ games (minus alpha centauri) and have disliked all multiplayer to date, mainly due to bugs that made it unplayable (uhhh esp. call to power, that was painful) so i havent really done much of it. I also havent played much civ period since civ2, given that I didnt think much of civ3 sp, so Yeah its been quite a few years.

Im currently just getting into mp civ4 with some of my buddies from Enemy Territory, and it looks promising. if I grow to like it and some of the niggles are ironed out with a patch, I'd be interested in getting whooped by some local veterans. I'll try to read about and catch up a bit in the meantime (as work permits).
