First MP games.

Well i must say im even more impressed with MP in CIV IV then SP. This game is simply awesome.

Ive now played (started) 3 seperate games 2 with good friends who are just learning. 1 game with Lord Genghis (josh), munster (my mate), Wraith and other guy (forgot your name sorry). Settings were, huge map, 8 AI, Noble level, epic, anicent, continents.

A few of our players suffered from bad starts and hordes of barbians decending unpon them from 1000BC-500AD seems to be the danger period. One player left due to bad start and barbians, another had to leave becuase of girlfriend (please get your prioties right, there is only one civ iv plenty of women out there) munster was eliminated by barbians around 500AD.

I could not believe how good barbians are at restricting early growth, really adds a new flavor to the game. I think the main fault here is people tend to build to many buildings, wonders, settlers without building a good military. Now sending say 1 warrior with a settler is only barely the minimum you might need. To be safe send two archers or two mouted troops (chariots, mounted archer) with your settlers. This also helps to protect the city and you can start straight away on building some growth buildings or unit, plus makes the city defence strong for awhile.

Any way munster rejoined as Germany and continued to play on. My empire Rome, was traveling nicely. Then i was also hit by barbians on multple fronts. I lost my new city right next to the iron i needed for my pratorians. I sent two archers and retook the city, CRAP, another barb archer was to the north right outside the city but out of my sight. So now my 1 archer at 0.3 strength had to hold out, but it didnt, so i lost the city AGAIN. This time i assembled 3 archers, 2 chariots and had 3 cities building units only. I retook the city finaly, but this delay cosy me 300-500 years without iron.

Now with my large buildup complete i thought well lets turn this to my advantage, i sent my forces against a chinese city right on my border and al ong way from there main empire. 4 chariots and 3 archers assulted the city and won after a few losess. Peace was established not long after, only jungle to the north no point going further now.

To my south lied ther persian empire who i decided was time to deal with. So a new military buildup began with catapults and pratorians. Catapults are eseential to take down cities. Events were tacken out of my hand though as the inca's decleared war on me, man as i was massing in the south the incas snet around 20 units from the north and invaded me. Luckly i had enough older units to save the day, but a second wave managed to take my city before a few pratorians arrived to secure the scene and dispatching the enemy. But what did the inca do NO they didnt take my city they RAZED it. A Roman city of size 11 was destroyed, the human lose was beyond belief. I vow to take my revenge upon these inca, a day of rekoning will arrive.

Was fun though to see 30-40 units battling it out inthe north sector of my empire. Now i had no idea where the incas lay, i thought well they came from the north so there up there somewhere. Nope infact they were to my far left beyond there perisan empire.

I massed my forces in a number of locations in the south and west of my empire. My amry now comprised of around 28 Pratorians and 5 catapults for a multiple prong offensive. My forces moved west and found a large city of 8 in size and after a bombardment by catapults stormed it with over 14 pratorians massed outside. I then got peace with the incas after a few more skirmishes. Due to distance they were to far away. I know once again positioned my forces to the north of persia in my new inca city and in the east and south of my empire.

War was decleared and masses of Pratorians stomred the borders a multiple fronts. Two persian cities fell in the north near the inca city i captured, loseing a few pratorians. In the east i captured a large city with heavier loses due to no catapults being ready, sheer numbers and strength one in the end. In the south i stormed over the first city (damascus) and headed for the Persian capital of Mecca. Mecca was a large city of 13 and well defended. Hmm this would require reinforcments just in case. Although i had 2 catapults and 8 pratorians i waited for another 5 pratorians from the north to arrive as there were 7 defending units. 3 rounds of catapult bombardments reduced defences to 6%. My pratorians from the north assulted first taking heave casaulties but tacking out half the defenders. The pratoriains form the east now finished the job with little loss to themselves.

Now the last Persian city fell in the middle of there empire, its name was Baghdad. It fell easily (how ironic). The Persian empire has now been delt with and the Roman empire spans a large contintent from east to west. Although there remain lots of room to expand still to there north part of the continent i am now weary of war and need to consolidate them empire. I now have 18 cities and it is costing me a fortune in gold.

But memories of the massacre at Pisa from the murdering forces of the incas is still fresh in the memory. Maybe a bit of consolidating and a new build up withk Knighs/Pratorians for a massive assult on the incas. I cannot let them live, we are different relgions. I uphold the Christian faith, them some heathen relgion. I fear now that we share a comon border war is unavoidable. The world shall tremble benth the power of Rome's Legions (Pratorians).

At sessions end me and Lord Genghis were exactly the same score, 1300 odd i think. I was pleased with this as at one point he lead me by 200 points with his war against Cyrus. Hopping to play again at 12 noon. Others are welcome to join in an take over AI nations if you like. Except not the inca, they are mine now.

Thanks for your patience Mike in last nights session. It was my first Civ 4 MP game and I LOVE IT!

I hot joined a session that Mike was hosting and it ran great. Trev had trouble connecting but it gets down to comp specs. You have to have a good comp at the recommended specs as a MINIMUM (not the minimum they say in the manual)

By next Sat night we should be OK to get a big regular ongoing game underway. Are you OK to host that Mike? We need at least 4 or 5 players (which we seem to have) and a commitment to play a solid session from mid evening to late/late evening.

Who have we got and let's discuss game settings during the next week (as I practice my SP before jumping in to MP!!!)

Yes it is time to setup a regular aussie group game. Saturday sounds good, just need to check my work roster. We should aim for 7pm-11pm or later if people can stay. But 4 hour sessions should be fine.

My friends who will want to play are : Munster, Major Ball, Bumblee Bee, Gunship, Omni (still to get game but in a fews i hope) so with me thats 6 already and we already play hoi 2 together on weekends so rounding thme up is not hard.

So all we need is for others to join in. I prefer aussies due to time zones. But if you can regualry make our time zone then your are welcome to play. But i will take aussies first over a more international.

I know Deity, Trev (if he gets a bit more ram) Josh (Lord Genghis) just a few ivep layed with. One guy toni from the states i played with for nearly 12 hours straight the other night, was great, more then welcome to play. So thats 10 players plus others who have posted here.

So at this stage ill set Saturday 7pm as start time. So everyone be on your MSN or ICQ before that time if you want to play.

No rules, anything goes, were all learning still so play a little nice for awhile anyway.
Other settings can vary depending what we feel like.
