It may only affect tanks... i've not seen anything else so far about it affecting other siege weapons.

People are blowing the whole Barrage promotion thing out of proportion. If I'm reading things correctly Barrage works fine for siege weapons, I think it even gives bigger boost then before. However they redid the way Barrage effects collateral damage and now it only effects units that innately deal collateral damage so apparently it has no more effect on Tanks. There definitely is an oversight but it appears to be one of two things:

-Firaxis didn't realize that the new barrage damage model wouldn't work on units that didn't start out with col. damage (ie tanks)

-Firaxis intended for tanks to no longer be able to deal col. damage and forgot to remove the ability for tanks to learn barrage.

Yeah it's an issue but it's no where near as bad as the stuff in 3.13. Neither Vanilla and Warlords were perfect even with their final, final patches. I'm pretty sure the Ikhanda nationalism bug was never fixed in the final, final Warlords patch, it was only fixed in BtS.

@logicman49: I didn't have Civ IV installed on my system at the time and the news of the the new patch inspired me to install it again. That's what I meant by reinstalling. Sorry for the confusion.

Well I don't mind that really, Tanks were pretty overpowered before anyway IMO. This makes using some some sort of collateral damage unit more valuable.

          Bah, Humbug!
Armor (in my book, and in my games) get City Raider promotions taken away; Guns (gunpowder) get the promotion instead.

I don't think that Armor was intended to lose barrage, it was a bug that was fixed (of some form) that had a side effect.

            But that's just my guess...

It affects Tanks and the like - it's still a bug, not a feature.

Yeah I agree with you Willem, tanks are pretty strong as is so having them lose the ability to cause collateral damage via barrage doesn't bother me even it was unintended.

With siege units getting the big nerf in BtS and further getting nerfed by not having access to combat promotions in the latest patch it's pretty clear that Firaxis wants siege units to be specialized collateral damage dealing support units. So I'm cool with the idea of siege units being the only units the can normally inflect collateral damage. It makes UUs like the Chu-ko-nu even more unique.

I'll probably just not give my tanks barrage from now on. The only issue I see is this might cripple the AI a little bit if they continue to still give their tanks barrage.

I know it would bother quite a few people but I would have no issues if the 'fix' for this issue (be it unofficial or official) is simply removing the ability for armor units to access the barrage promotion.

Does anyone know how I would go about doing that in my game? I've never done any modding with promotions.

Yes and no. It increases the amount of collateral damage a barrage promoted siege unit can do in a single attack. It also lowers the cap on the total amount of collateral damage.

Therefore your stack of barrage promoted catapults is less effective than it used to be, but doesn't require as many units to achieve the maximum result.

But in the main, you are right that Barrage promotions for Tanks are no more broken than Barrage promotions for Machine Guns, and somehow we've managed to endure.

Reciting without the code in front of me, I think you edit Civ4PromotionInfos.xml, find that Barrage I promotion, and remove the reference to Armored units.

Yeah, I found it and removed Armour from the promotion. Personally I prefer it that way. Tanks are powerful enough without having that promotion as well. Leave collateral damage to the siege and air units.

I only get the barrage promo to get the accuracy promo. I'd rather knock down the walls quickly and let my other units handle the troops within. Why lose 3-5 cats/trebs in an assault when you'll otherwise lose 1-2 melee/gun units, and the rest get promoted?
                            I'm consitently stupid- Japher

I don't think I've ever lost 3-5 trebs in an assault. It's more like 0-2.

Another minor bug that I heard mentioned and personally confirmed when I was playing last night is that the modern road graphics no longer appear when you hit the Industrial age.

I'm wondering if it was actually an intended change (despite not being mentioned in the change log) because the modern road graphics made it sometimes difficult to tell roads and railroads apart.
