  • Next Civs and additional leaders

I thought about adding this to the worst leader thread, but I figured this was a different subject for experienced and noobs alike. What civs are left in the scope of World History not already in the game? So here is my very brief list:
Europeans: Poles, Swedes, Danes, Saxons or Swiss
Africa: Nigerians, South Africa, or Zimbabwe
South America: If there are Native Americans...how about Amazons; also a modern nation: Brazil or Argentina
Asia: Huns, Israel, The Golden Horde

    Missing Leaders:
Empress Wu, Atilla, David, Umar, Clovis, Alfred, Timur, and Phillip of Spain.

I think they tend towards great empires or civs with great leaders. I can see some of those, like the Poles, but most others are not so great (swiss) or have other representation (Vikings-Swedes).

I'd say: Poles, Austria-Hungary, maybe Lithuania, Sassids (and a few other ancient mideast empires I don't recall), Nubia, Songhai, Ghana, split Natives into Lakota and Iraquois.

The only leaders that come to mind are Geronimo and Simon Bolivar.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

I do not think the Native Americans were a civilization, rather American players wanted them in the game. I think the Iroqois would be better than Native...with Joseph Brandt as great leader. If you have been to the Native American Museum in DC, they intrepet Native as everything from Alaska to Chile.

Hence the idea of splitting into Iroquois and Lakota.

I would say forget the Lakota. The Sioux are hunter/gatherers. Iroqois at least were close to the neolithic revolution with farms and villages.

Almost all of the civilizations to have any sort of a cultural impact is represented in the game, either by being it's own civ or being incorporated into an existing civ through cities or by combining different cultures into one (Native Americans). The Ancient times saw many "great" cultures that are forgotten or unknown to us, some of which would possibly Include the Hittites, Sarmatians, Dacians, Lydians, Gauls among others. The Greek and Persian Civilizations also incorporate some of the cultures of Asia Minor and middle east that could easily be divided into separate factions if one wanted to do so. However, this would only be for flavor since the problem would be finding variety with these new cultures and those that already exist, since they would require an ancient UU and UB, a city list, a leader and a trait combination that preferably didn't exist on another leader.

As for newer nations, I'm fine with that. I could see a Brazilian or an Argentinian civilization to be playable since they're not that much different from the US of A when you come to think of it. With that, you could add Australia as well.

One thing though; Most, if not all, of the civilizations represented in game have had or have a large impact on the world either through cultural achievements, conquest, influence or other and one can't really give a lot of merit to Brazil, Argentina, Australia (or Finland!).

I'd love to have more ancient civs though.

Here's a draft of the Hittites:

            Ruler: Suppiluliuma I (IND/ORG)
UU: Scythe Chariot (4 , 2 , Immune to First Strikes, +50% Against Melee Units)
UB: Foundry (replaces Forge) +30% , +1 from Iron, Copper, Coal, Uranium, Aluminum, +1 from Gold, Gems, Silver.

            10 City names:

            Hattusa
            Nesa
            Carchemish
            Kultepe
            Adana
Aleppo (this is already in game)
            Malatya (as is this)
            Gordium (ditto)
            Karatepe
            Ivriz

            I always get carried away

              Poland

Actually, Poland was included in the local CIV Complete version along with a Polish language pack. The civ is a community mod, and the langauge version was made by the local distributor. Good value.
              Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

                Great ideas Fleme...
I would argue the Swedes for Europe...they were a very powerful civ in the medieval age of Europe....I admit I have not thught our the cities beyond Stockholm, Visby, Birka, and Linkoping....they remain powerful until the Napoleonic Era.

South Africa is already represented by the Zulu. That was their territory. Besides, I'd hardly call South Africa a civ, it's just another country.

The Sassids are just another form of Arab though. It would be nice to see the Nubians in the game however, they were a very important African civ for quite some time with some well documented leaders.

I'd like to see Vietnam with Ho Chi Minh.

I wouldn't hold your breath, that probably wouldn't be very popular with the American market.

I think as far as the developers are concerned, Ethiopia covers Nubia and the Khmer cover the Vietnamese. I know they're not the same thing but the exist geographically roughly on the same spot. With that said, I'd like to see the Nubians though. Then again, I'd love to see the Parthians, The Phoenicians, the Numidians, the Arameans, the Assyrians along with the aforementioned civilizations but alas, they'd have to make up new traits and probably new types of ancient units since one can have only so many unique units or buildings of a certain type, and having the same traits as someone else gets boring.

Frankly, i think 52 leaders are more than sufficient.

While playing last night, the only other Civ that already should be in the game is Israel/Judea. No one can argue that they are not important...foundation of 2 major religions. Capital: Jerusalem just off the top of my head other cities: Tel Aviv, Bethleham, Nazareth, Gaza, Bethel, Hebron, Haifa, Beersheba, and Jericho.
                              Leader: Solomon or David (Phi/Ind)
                              Unit: Spy improvement: Mossad
Building: better spy agency or bank
