You might need Hereditary Rule to get the Drill I option.

The interesting thing was that at that time I was having some fun and was trying out how it would be to have Boudica leading Rome. So building eight Praetorian was no problem at all. Afterwards I had a never ending army of Praets with minimally three promotion. It goes without saying that Sitting Bull of the Byzantine Empire and Saladin of America were quickly destroyed and I now have a lot of Praets with ST1 and CR3 or better...
I don't think I will end this game though, because it isn't fun anymore.
What difficulty level were you/are you playing at? I do agree that playing at too low a difficulty gets dull and boring since its too easy to win. Doubly so if you get a stroke of luck like this.

I got the "Build 8 Chariots before Classical times" quest, at a time when I had 3 cities and, fortunately, a horse resource. I managed to do it, but the rewards were underwhelming: either a free Combat I promotion for all Chariots (guess which one they all already had, except for the 8th one that completed the quest?) or the option to use the mighty power of our Chariots spread our state religion internally (which was neat, except that all of Greece was at that point already Islamic).

This feature had great modding potential. Just imagine the possibilities for events in custom scenarios!

True, VERY true. Maybe we'll get back to the good, ol' civ2 days and the scenrios? Hmm, wish I had time to play around with modding, I'm already getting ideas... Just think of it; it's now a lot easier to make more accurate historical scenarios where often small events changed battles

I got a mission to build x number of coliseums...unfortunately I only had half the number of cities I needed. After a war I managed to get the new cities to build the needed coliseums in time

My Civ started exporting prairie dogs.

The extra commerce on the effected tile is not helping since it wasn't in any city's fat x.

Still on my first game, so I haven't seen much else.

I got a rather cool event in the game I finished up last night.

I had just started building my Spaceship, but hadn't completed any parts yet. The I got an Event notice that a comet fragment had struck the ground in the polar region south of one of my cities. The impact sped up the rotation of the earth by 2 seconds! (That part actually didn't do anything for the game.) but it gave me a single option to choose which said something like, investigate further what else might be out there. This was at no cost, but it gave me 10% increased speed in building all Spaceship parts, as well as 2 other not as cool things that i didn't commit to memory.

This may not be related to BTS, but I had a city I had recently taken from America go into Revolt on the same turn they celebrated "We Love the Monarch", and there was an event at that city that a helpful "Native Tribe" gave 1XP to my Machine gunner! All in the same turn.

This sounds so odd until you realise that religions don’t follow the tech path anymore.

I liked the following, especially as they seemed so appropriate for my civ:

As Peter of Russia I got Horse Whispering - build X Stables. When I won, I could choose one of the following:

                        A. Get X Horse Archers,
                        B. All Horse Archers get Sentry Promotion,
                        C. All Stables give +1 Food.

And as Louis XIV I got Golden Age of Musketeers - build X Musketeers (with extra effect when you have the Taj Mahal and Vassalship). The result was:

                        A. Leverage your military power by extorting money from weaker neighours (gain X gold),
                        B. All Musketeers get Pinch promotion,
                        C. Start Golden Age.

The problem with leadership is inevitably: Who will play God?

Are you sure about the promotion? I had an impression that promotions from events actually apply to all units, even the ones built in future.

Orromo Warriors with free Pinch upgrade. I made a whole mess of those, that was great.

I don't remember the name of my event, but basically the religious leaders of my civ said our god(s) wanted us to be masters of the sea and I have to found a city on 7 different landmasses. I did some exploring and saw that not only are there not many landmasses, but the city locations would all suck (I'd end up founding cities on a bunch of 1 tile islands). I decided to not even attempt this quest. I'm sure it would be cool on the right map though.

Yeah. I had already given Combat I to the 7 Chariots I had manufactured, so they gained nothing. Any further Chariots would have gotten the Combat I for free, but by that time I had no further need for Chariots because they were about to get obsolete. So, in effect all I gained from the quest was a free Combat I promotion for the 8th Chariot that finished the quest but hadn't yet received a promotion for those 3 XP he got from the barracks.
