I had just started building my Spaceship, but hadn't completed any parts yet. The I got an Event notice that a comet fragment had struck the ground in the polar region south of one of my cities. The impact sped up the rotation of the earth by 2 seconds! (That part actually didn't do anything for the game.) but it gave me a single option to choose which said something like, investigate further what else might be out there. This was at no cost, but it gave me 10% increased speed in building all Spaceship parts, as well as 2 other not as cool things that i didn't commit to memory.
I just got the same, it was 5% increase in spaceship production and +2 for Laboratory
The one I haven't had yet, but am positively salivating at the prospect, is the Central Bank event, that will reduce inflation by 40%!
The central bank REDUCES inflation ?! I dont know if any of you guys watched "Zeitgeist" ( http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ ) and how much of what is said in this movie is true, but according to this movie, a central bank would not exactly reduce inflation (rather be the cause for it)...

It is only 10% for free or 25% if you spend 200+ gold. Luckily I 10,000 gold (I love great merchants) at the time and I got another 100 gold per turn from it (well worth the money).

This may not be related to BTS, but I had a city I had recently taken from America go into Revolt on the same turn they celebrated "We Love the Monarch", and there was an event at that city that a helpful "Native Tribe" gave 1XP to my Machine gunner! All in the same turn.
The natives were probably the ones revolting. They were helpful because they were simple practice for the gunners hence the extra experience
ooo one of the funj ones I've had was as Justinian starting in an island chain, the "Sea Mother" or something. I had to have cities built on 0 seperate landmasses. Didn't win .

I sure hope so... but still weird to see it before inventing flight
I'm just going by what other events have done. I got one where the courts decided the outcome of a political election.. and from then on courthouses showed as being +2 spy +1 commerce on the build screen =)

I don't remember the name of my event, but basically the religious leaders of my civ said our god(s) wanted us to be masters of the sea and I have to found a city on 7 different landmasses. I did some exploring and saw that not only are there not many landmasses, but the city locations would all suck (I'd end up founding cities on a bunch of 1 tile islands). I decided to not even attempt this quest. I'm sure it would be cool on the right map though.
The inflation reducing event (10% less or 25% less spending some gold) is a game breaker. Pumping 10% more commerce into research and espionage has allowed me to bump a lead from meager to ridiculous as I'm about to get Assembly line in 1740-something (Marathon, Large, Noble)

Yeah, and couple that with Charlemagne/HRE, and you\'ll be swimming in cash to a degree beyond the dreams of Avarice (or Nwabudike Morgan). Heck, with one religious shrine and one corporation in my Capital/Wall Street city, I had something like +60 GPT with 80% science, 10% culture, and 10% espionage.
