What type of unit can a chariot upgrade to? (Thinking to myself here)

I'm just throwing this out there:

Can anybody think of what type of horsemen were used outside Europe in the Middle Ages (Keshiks aside)? I know the Songhai (Mali's replacement in Africa) were heavily into cavalry (not in the Civ 4 sense, in the plain horse-riding army sense); so was Persia.

      Theme:
Whatever. Let's say, "Age of Aquarius" just so I don't leave this blank.

      Civs:
Want: Babylon, Mayans, Ethiopians, Thais, Harappa, Hittites
Expect: Babylon, Mayans, Ethiopia*, Dutch, Portuguese, Byzantines
(* just to be different from you )

      Units:
Want: Paratrooper, Zeppelin (early air unit), Helicopter Transport, Ballista
Expect: Cruise Missile, AEGIS Cruiser, Nuclear Sub, Paratrooper

      Wonders:
I like your list, but I'll also add in Leonardo's Workshop (as a unit upgrade cost reducer like Civ 3, not the Civ 2 version)

      Leaders:
Want & Expect: Meiji, Pericles, Darius, Osman, Lincoln

      Improvements:
      Want: Airfield (tile improvement)
      Expect: ? None ?

      Features:
Want (in order of preference): new trade features, improved diplomacy, something for religion + improved AI
Expect (in order of emphasis by developers): improved diplomacy, something for religion, improved AI, and new trade features
Finally, someone else who wants the Thai. Anyone else notice south-east Asia is missing? Siam, Burma, Vietnam, Khmers, Java: all have rich history and can be put in (including Champa)
Harappa: interesting. Was flamed more than once when I suggested it and the Franks for Civ 3 - so incensed I stopped coming to this site for two years.

Like the leaders. Need a couple more medieval units (this has been mentioned).

Cruise Missile: something to counter battleships. They are now in RL technically obselete, while smaller gunships now rule the seas (as long as the subs let them, anyway).

I definitely think the Khmer ought to be in; after all, they have the Angkor Wat. If they're good enough to have a wonder, they're good enough to be playable (same goes for Mayans: Chichen Itza and Babylon: Hanging Gardens, by the way). Whether they'll actually make it in is anybody's guess.

I left Khmers off because I figured one civ is enough to represent south-east Asia (though I wouldn't mind seeing both in). And between the Thais and the Khmers, I picked Thais because I like Thai food.

Well, I would love to have a SE Asian civ; I left them off my list because I was stating what I expected rather than what I prefered.
