If another religion were to be added, I would almost certainly guarantee it would be Zoroastrianism. Granted, there are not nearly as many as there used to be, but their impact on world history and on monotheistic faiths in particular is immense.

Whatever. Let's say, "Age of Aquarius" just so I don't leave this blank.

I like your list, but I'll also add in Leonardo's Workshop (as a unit upgrade cost reducer like Civ 3, not the Civ 2 version)

I like your Unit ideas (especially the zeppelin). I think modern units come a little too abruptly after the middle ages -- there should be a few steps in between. In the modern era is really long and without a great deal of diversity in terms of units, buildings, wonders, etc.

I also like your leader preferences. Obviously I think Meiji, Pericles and Lincoln are shoe-ins, but I think the fourth slot (if there's only to be 4 again) is a toss-up between Darius (I or III) of Persia and Philip II of Spain. Japan, Greece, Spain and Persia all need second leaders, because the first three are all too aggressive and the last is too friendly. Diversity!

That unit list was at the top of my head. I'd also like to see a modern, 2-move artillery unit: like 'Self-Propelled Artillery' or 'Rocket Artillery'.

A modern version of the explorer would be nice too. Something like an 'Armored Scout Car' or 'Motorized Scout' that is represented by a Humvee, Jeep, or light-armored vehicle. I just don't like having the explorer in my build list in the modern era.

We don't want to concentrate too much on modern units though.

Well of course. just enough to flesh it out. I still think the middle ages is somewhat sparse, and the renaissance virtually non-existant. Maybe add in dragoons and bombards.

And why have all my medieval infantry got to be macemen? Why not add in men-at-arms/footmen and make macemen the upgraded melee attack (axemen) and footmen the upgraded city attack (swordsmen)? After all, I like the specialized ancient infantry. It didn't make sense to take it away in the middle ages. Especially with both longbows and crossbows diversifying the archers. Why not diversify the infanty too?

Agreed. Though my knowledge of medieval warfare is little, at best, I did notice the war machine diversity "funnel" in the medieval age. This includes the chariots and horse archers merging into knights (or cavalry, if you skip Guilds).

Yes. In Civ4, the middle ages are dull and short. I say liven and lengthen it up a bit!

                            Virdrago & Alexander01,
One issue would be a split upgrade path - swords have to become footmen, axes have to be maces. That might not be a big deal.

What would be the cheap unit (cheaper than knights/cavalry) for chariots to upgrade to? Something with a cost around 70, 8 Strength - wait, that sounds like a mobile maceman! Light cavalry I guess. If it gets a withdraw chance like chariots I can see most people abandoning macemen for light cavalry.

The trouble with that is that light cavalry would be a fairly lame unit.

I would like to see a guerrilla/partisan unit, something a little weaker than infantry but with a woodsman promotion. It would be cheap to build and used to harass. It would be a good late-game unit for barbs too.

And maybe a militia unit- you might get two when drafting units; it would be a lousy attacker but good city defender.

I would like to see alpine troops make a comeback- they could be the only unit able to traverse mountains.
