Sorry, my question wasn't clear. I'll rephrase it.

With the announcement of XP2 just around the corner
    Conjecture or fact?

Alexander's comments are conjecture, he has no inside knowledge of Firaxis or 2K Games. Nobody outside those companies knows when the next expansion will be announced, and I'll bet you most people inside them also don't have a clue yet either, if it has even been decided. However, it *is* a fact that Firaxis is working on a second expansion, this has been said repeatedly by Firaxians, mainstream gaming press and testers such as Solver and myself.

Traditionally the announcement would be in the weeks leading up to E3, this was the case for Warlords and the Civ3 expansions and the proper start of the marketing campaign for Civ3 and Civ4 was also around this time, even if their actual (semi-)official announcement came earlier (and it's also sort of an industry-wide standard for games that have a Q3/Q4 release date -- which Firaxis products pretty much always do). Since E3 was always in May, that would've placed the announcement likely in March or April. However, E3 is being radically reformed and starting next year is being moved up to much later in the year, so it will no longer be the centerpiece of the gaming industry's PR agenda like it was in the past. So now it's basically anybody's guess when the announcement will come, though personally I think it's still not gonna be before the new year that we hear anything. IMO a few weeks before GDC (Game Developer's Conference, widely accepted as the most likely candidate to succeed E3's role for marketing purposes) would be a good guess, which is held in early March, so January or Februari would be a likely time.

Of course, while I have some inside knowledge into the workings of Firaxis, it should be noted that I have zero inside knowledge on this issue, this is pure conjecture on my part (otherwise I wouldn't be posting it ) For all I know they're gonna announce it this afternoon...

I just heard from a reliable source high up in Firaxis that XP2 will include Giant Death Robots. But keep this a secret, I don't want my source to get into trouble over this.

No, but they had serious problems with Civ addiction at several US Army forts. Additionally, US Navy SEALS refused to fulfill their duties in protest to the fact that, unlike their Civ4 counterparts, they can not comfortably heal any wounds while on the move .

You said all that to say "yes, a second XP is in the works"?

You deffinately need to wait for coffee.

Yes, I probably should have specified that "just around the corner" is not a definite timeframe.

What I mean is that I'm anticipating it probably within the next few months, but as Locutus says, I don't know the exact announcement date and it could just as easily happen on Valentine's Day as it could while I'm eating lunch today.

But then again, this thread was intended for conjecture (best guesses, to be specific).

How about scientology or sects as a new religion.

Scientology...really? I'd say that's highly unlikely. I don't think Scientology is the 7th most influential religion/cult/money-making scam in the world (except amongst crazy, whacked-out Hollywood egomaniacs).
The undeserving maintain power by promoting hysteria.

True, but sadly those scams are a rotten part of our modern days civilization...

Sects or cults would have been a better description than scientology probably.
