  • I have a hard time believing that Friaxis would create a brand new feature, that is 1 of the 2 "killer features" Soren is so fond of, and not tinker with the AI enough to make it reasonably likely to happen.

I would expect that the AI would be willing to accept Capitulation when things are worse off than a situation where they would offer Peace with Techs or cities. Just as they are more often to surrender techs and cities when things are worse off than when they would just offer straight peace. Or how they would offer straight peace when things are worse off than when they would only accept you giving them techs or cities in return for peace.

      Oh ye of little faith.

Like Fosse mentioned, they're not going to add a feature like that and not adjust the AI to actually use it.

      • The problem might be as to how they adjust it, not whether they actually adjust it

        • Just got confirmation that the Vassal State option exists in at least 125bc, so it does look as though it exists right from the begining of the game

          • It's gotta be fun purely because it's something else to do in Civ 4.

That's what I love about this game; how many things you can do and customize.

Ohyeah. They'll adjust the AI to use it but will it make nominally intelligent use of it or will it have the attitude of "no way am I gonna let someone else rule me".

It's like learning a new move at karate school, everyone wants to use it on someone but no one wants to get their butt kicked.

I am waiting to see if it will be any more available than trading cities (legend has it the AI will trade a city, but I've never seen it.)

Yes. Many civs would rather I destroy them utterly than surrender one inch of ground.

                  • Ok, I read many posts here but may have missed my question:

It would seem if a "Vassal" was such it would be offering a tribute of some sort to its Master, in gold or even units (workers or settlers) or perhaps the "demand good" thingey is the best the Vassal state has to offer?

Ok any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

                    • Probably Vassal state is everything they have belongs to you including all of their units, production and commerce. If you want something in particular that they have, your probably could just press a button that says "Give me this," and it's yours.

It would be nice if the ai reflected you being a BIG BROTHER and help their overall attitude vs you being a MASTER TASKMASTER and them begrugingly giving what you demand, even unto rioting and poor work performance.

A Happy vassal is a Productive Vassal so to speak

                        • Yeah, I would love the idea if it were to give its master all gold and research and tech, BUT also put the responsibility of the Vassal square on the masters shoulders. Take the gold and research and they walk. Share the tech and research from all the Vassals with each other and you keep the relationship (as it is clearly in their best interest). That would be cool. A mod anyone....?

                          • You might not need a mod. That might ACTUALLY be how it works.
