We now apparently know what this screen is about:

It's how you add 20xp to your units... choose a unit, and it adds a level.

Barracks (3 XP) + Ger which replaces stable (4 XP) = 7 XP.

"I should note that some people are saying that barracks were brought down to only +3 xp. So it's possible that the total will wind up being 5 xp, not 6."

As far as I can tell, he's not heard anything official, just that there was a rumor.

"I havn't heard by anyone other then someone that said they heard it."

"Where is the source of this lowering?"

That's the only time I've heard about this change to 3XP, by someone who said they heard it from someone else, nothing official stating that it is so. What's the source (by that I mean official source) of this lowering?

By his posts (unless I'm mixing Simplicity up with someone else), he's getting the information from Civfanatics. My server is banned from that site so it's pointless for me to ask for a link since I won't be able to view it.

You're really seizing on the less important of the two reasons given for my miscalculation. Maybe it's 4 XP. I don't really care. I just wanted to know if the Mongol Ger gave 4 XP or 6 XP to mounted units.

I believe the Ger is a total of +4.

Yeah, the IGN preview was edited to make that clearer.

The civs that have bonuses to early buildings are going to have a huge advantage, I think. Sure, the Russians and the Germans have nice late-game buildings, but they're still going to take a big hit when compared to civs that have buildings giving them a big economic advantage for thousands of years longer, like the Zulu and Carthege. Even the Incans special building looks nice; +2 cultrue from granery is great, especally considering you can get the granery a long time before you're even close to a library. For a civ that's not creative, and dosn't start with mist for a possible early religion, that's huge. The civs with late special buildings are going to be at a severe disadvantage, I think.

                    • I didn't really think about a +2 culture granary... You're right, that it semi-strong (not overpowering, though I think). Sometimes I just build libraries because I need that culture alone.

As for the reduction in barracks, the writer of the IGN article is posting at CivFanatics. We mentioned in a post that the Stable gives +2 xp in addition to the *+3* xp from the barracks. Maybe it was a typo, maybe it wasn't.

Edit: Actually, he just came on and said that it was not a typo.

Its the guy who made the IGN preview (he posted at CFC to clarify everything).

                        • I like building Granary first in a new city, post-Pottery. Assuming I have a defender. If the Granary gives culture, means you don't have to do an Obelisk/Library, or have religion, to guarantee border expansion.

I believe that yes they mean +Gold not +Commerce, knowing the actual bonuses that each of those buildings give, but it can be assumed.

                              • Someone in another forum had an interesting theory about the German Assembly Plant, in that it gets the "power" bonus immediately if you have coal, forgoing the need to build a power plant. This would make it more of a Factory+Coal Plant in one building.
