  • Super IGN preview

There's a new IGN preview with almost everything about Warlords you could want to know.

    http://pc.ign.com/articles/717/717727p1.html

    The Good News:
    ---------------------
WOW! Those Unique buildings are going to make the game interesting. Some of them are insanely cool.
Pavillion is +25% culture!!!! I guess China is going for cultural wins from now on...

Charismatic is only +1 happy/city. I think most people agreed it was kind of overpowered before.

    The Bad News:
    -------------------
Only two new non-civ specific units... Trebuchet and Trireme, apparently. That's unfortunate.

No Mausoleum wonder... There's only 3, but we really kind of knew that already.

Thanks, I havn't read it yet but I am now.

      "Korean
      Wang Kon - Financial, Protective
      Korean Seowon, replaces University
      +35% research"

Does anyone know if that means a new total of 35% bonus or total of 60% bonus?

And Tokugawa gets the awsome military combo of Aggressive/Protective

Ah, you're right. I was experiencing a brain cloud when I wrote that. I meant Trireme, of course. I fixed the original post.

The article did say "over and above the other benefits" but who knows whether they mean what they say here... :-) I'm guessing it's not 35% MORE than a university, that would be A LOT of research.

Oh, and Tokugawa is going to mess up so many games now... Combat+Drill1+Drill2. And he's a raving loon. I love it.

Yeah, Germans and Russians get awsome unique buildings, and Japan, Zulu, Arabia, and Eqypt get some of the worse unique buildings.

And if that 35% is in addition to, that would be a great unique building for the Keoreans

Okay, the French Salon sucks. But the Egyptian obelisk and Madrassa are STRONG. Two priests can give you an early prophet. And that means slingshot heaven.

I'm not sure what I think about the Zulu building. Okay if you've got a big empire, but otherwise... eh. I guess if you LET the Zulus get out of hand, you could have a problem keeping up with them.

The way it's looking to me, Toku is the ultimate warmonger leader, and Victoria the builder leader. And Wang Kon a great leader to go for Space Race with. And one of the Russian leaders (I am specifically thinking Cathrine) would be great for Space Race too, because of that +2 FREE scientists with the library, that adds a LOT of early reashearch.

French Salon is decent, that's 1 FREE artist, in addition to the +25% reashearch.

Oh, I missed the free part. Okay, not terrible. Not great (like say +1 trade route!).

And how about that Temple of Artemis: +100% trade commerce. Imagine that with Carthage's +1 trade route!

That thing for carthage only applys to costal citys. But throw in a great lighthouse and it's even better.

Also, is there a new general building called a stable? I ask because of the mongol unique building.

We saw that it another preview... I guess this confirms it. My guess: +2 XP to mounted units.

Not sure I agree with this from the human player's perspective: Toku was the ultimate warmonger anyway, but losing ORG will make a big empire hard to sustain and Samurai are melee units so they don't get the PRO bonus. However, I think the new combo will let the AI play a much better game as Toku, or, at the very least, he'll be a much tougher nut to crack.
