Confucianism is philosophical dogma which aims to readjust the views of a household or an entire kingdom in the name of improving it. That may sound like a religion to some of you, but it really isn't. If anything (and this would still be stretching it), Confucianism could've been a civic.

Zoroastrianism is a suitable early religion and can be justified both historically (Sassanid Persia) and culturally (influencing the first Abrahamic faiths and through Persia introducing the concept of Dharma to the near east).

As an aside, I must say that being an Indian spelling Nazi really sucks when people talk about playing as/against "Ghandi"
As a global spelling Nazi who persecutes providing he knows the real spelling, I find "Buddah" monumentally bad. Anyway: Asoka or Ashoka?

I think it would have been better for religions to be the concepts rather than the real life orders. The techs already mirror that for the most part. Instead of Judaism, Monotheism. Instead of Hinduism, Polytheism. That could potentially cut out a lot of the arguing. It would abstract things in a way. Of course, the symbols would need a bit of changing

Pronounced Ashoka, it should really only be spelled Asoka if there's a little dot over the s.

Technically, a little horizontal dash over the s, giving it the sh sound.
