No wonder Firaxis bend over backwards not to offend people with differences in religions. Apparently I'm an anti-semite because I don't like Judaism.

You know you´re not allowed to criticize anything the jews say or do, Bkeela. That´s anti-semitism, that is...

        Zoroastrianism?

        Never heard of it!
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

No Bkeela, not because you don't like it, because you have said that you don't like it.

Apparantly it is still okay to have your own opinion, just don't voice it if it is not mainstream

Stay on topic, guys. If I, of all people, can, surely you can too.

Atheism isn't a religion but a lack thereof. There was a multi-page thread last year debating this (I forgot who won).

Also, Jainism and traditional Buddhism (i.e. not the Tibetan kind) are atheist, so it's not a modern phenomenon.

Ok... maybe term religion should be replaced by term belief.

Then atheism could be included even it is not a religion.

well... No it's not... Free religion is a right to practise a religion of your choise. It is not the same thing as not to believe in god of other supernatural concepts.

But you are allowed to believe in nothing at least, that's more than you can say of for instance a theocracy.

It seems my atheism idea is being received much better than I had expected. I thought I was going to be flamed by a bunch of atheists who said, we aren't a religion, how dare you call us that, yata, yata, yata, yata. I realize that the major flaw with this is that you don't have atheist temples, but, at least in its original form, their were no Confusian temples either, just accademies. As for the civics, I think the USSR had a very powerful atheist theocracy. We wouldn't normally call it that, but think how closely the effects matched that of theocracy in the game. A better millitary, it appears they had one. No spread of non-state religion, yes indeed. Their aren't exactly atheist missionaries either, but atheists definitely spread their religion; I think its now the third largest behind Christianity and Islam. But I don't think the names typically used for atheism should hold anyone from putting this into a game. All opposed, prepare your flamethrowers; all in favor, defend me while I run.

But has there ever been an entire civilization that propounds this concept?

I think they should have simply made up a couple of dozen fake relgion names then randomly pick on each time a religion was founded.

Another idea would be to allow the founder to name it and pick the icon.

Madeupeism has be founded in a far away land....

Actually, in real life, I will have to point out that the religious denomination Unitarian Universalism strongly supports the humanist/atheist religious choice. Of course, it strongly supports a lot of religious choices, so make of it what you will.

Being who and what I am, I am always offended that Paganism is the default do-nothing-for-you religion, but I can live with that.

For purposes of this poll I voted Zoroastrianism, mainly as an indication that I like the relgions as they are with the minor exception that Islam get used less because it is researched so much later in the tech tree. However, watching people mangle the spelling of Zoroastrianism would be a painful experience to a potential spelling Nazi like me.

And I still want an option to rename the religions just like I can rename units and cities. There's an awful lot of potential for humor and self-glorification there.
