If I don't get copper, I research iron working and look for iron. If I don't get iron, I would rely on horse archers, archers, catapults, until I acquired some. I have never been without either copper or iron, so it is hypothetical, but that's probably what I'd do.

Also, look at the converse situation. What if you have iron or copper, and the AI doesn't? Do you always want them to have such strong units, or do you sometimes take pleasure in ravaging the AI who has none?

For me, the surprise factor is half the game. Searching for gems and silk in the jungle, a sneak attack as you scramble to raise an army to defend against it. An amazing, heroic victory against seemingly impossible odds, ruthless defeat of your only warrior at the hands of an angry horde of barbarians released after he popped a goody hut looking for something good.

Riiiggghht...and this is why MP will always suck and why SP sells so well and why games are becoming more and more dumbed down. Yes, now go play with your friends outside and grab a stick and pretend you are slaying monsters in haunted woods.

Senethro, a minute here and a minute there to post doesn't add up to a life.

5 games in a row Napoleon has suicide attacked me and only me and 4 of the games he had iron and horses and I had neither.

Luck of the draw I guess, but it's turning me to playing other games because of the time wasted through such BS day in day out.

The demands is the main problem with Civ4, constant demands that even if you meet you still get attacked by Napolean.

          Shaka,

I, like you, can appreciate variety and surprise. For us it is what keeps the game fresh and interesting. Not all players are that way though.

Some players, notably ladder players of certain games, and I now see that CIV is one of those games, want a completely even match between them and their opponents. The slightest amount of randomness or asymmetry is enough to spoil the game for them.

Where we like variety, they prefer to have exactly the same battle ground over and over again.

To me or you this is complete boredom, but to some types of competivite player this is nearly a set in stone prerequisite.

Of course, most people who prefer that type of gaming prefer sites that cater to their particular needs and desires.

Other poor souls seem to be eternally lost, visiting sites that can have nothing better for them than disdain, no kinder words than, "Get lost, troll!".

Pity the lost, or better yet, ignore them, and perhaps some random event will steer them in the direction of a site that will interest them more.

Wow! You certainly thrive on enmity.

              Quinnyowns,
Did your 5 experiences with Napoleon teach you anything about being a better CIV player? If so, then perhaps the experience wasn't wasted after all.

If you really feel that you wasted your time though, keep in mind that all games are a waste of time, maybe it is just that CIV doesn't suit you so well.

How can you claim to know all about multiplayer if you have only played 3 computer games. That alone gives away your inexperience; how can you argue against many players who have been playing online since Quakeworld? What else could you be speaking about, eh? Online console gaming? Hahahaha what a n0000b. Seems to me like you haven't the experience to make such a judgement. Maybe if you weren't in diapers in 1990 when Civ1 was developed, you could have added your 'insightful' ideas to Firaxis' repetoire. Until mankind has created a time machine, I'll have to say that your trite little perspective is limited. Please keep your attention deficits centered around the Halo 2 community where it belongs.

Notice I said "online". I never gave any indication of how long I played these games online. I'm one of those people who plays the same game for years on end. I played civ1 for about 2 years and I got the game when I was 10 back in 1992. Then I played checkers online for a while. Then I got civ2 played that for a little while back in 96 then just stopped games altogether. Then in 1999 Civ2Mp came out and that was the first game I really played MP and I did that for 6 years on and off. I spent 3 years as number 1 in civ2 MP. Then I moved on to Age of Empires 2 and I played that for about 4 years and I played it pretty regularly up until the past year when I started to get bored. In AOC I was a top 5 player in the US. While I don't play many different games, the 1 game I play at the time I become very good at. I don't play because I like the game, I play for the competition. The drama around the game is another thing I play for as well. In order for an MP game to be successful there has to be an online community and there has to be competition and both are dependent on the quality of the game. This game has a horrible online community and competition isn't just non-existent it's discouraged and punished. I'm sorry if I didn't play 50 different games in a 2 year period and I also don't play console games. The last console I owned was Sega Saturn back 10 years ago.

You brag about your gaming skills, few things are geekier than that, fawning over a cgi female is one of them, granted.

                      A little self-awareness, please.

hehhee True, but I don't brag because I think it's important, I do it because it pisses all of you off and it makes the game more enjoyable. Unfortunately this game is so bad being good doesn't enhance the enjoyment.

Entertainment works both ways. As far as my failings in life, by all means post your resume.
