Yeah, more bloviating. This guy topped the Civ2 ladder for a long time, eh? Did he behave like this back then? Or is it a recent thing?

Nah, I always behaved this way. It is part of my charm. The funny thing is it's not even really possible to be top in Civ4. Everyone knows what you're doing and every game comes down to combat luck and other little things. Even after 6 years people still don't know how I do the things I did in civ2 even after they saw saves. Yet in civ4 that secret/magic just doesn't exist. Everyone knows what everyone is doing and sooner or later it's all going to come down to RNG and maps. This is what happens when you dumb the game down in an effort to bring in beginning players by making the game easier. Nice work.

For example, who was the genius who decided to put ice on the tops and bottom of the map but allowed resources to occur there? So while my Egyptian opponent is building a city to use horse and thus has access to his UU I have to travel all the way down to the ice and build a useless city to have access to iron for Praetorians. Good thinking! I also love the classic two coppers and no iron on the entire map. Who was the genius that came up with this one? I would think at this stage of the game after Firaxis ****ed Civ3 up so bad that they would FINALLY figure out this ****, but I guess not. Try taking the name Civilization off this game (anyone who tries to argue this is civilization is kidding themselves) and see how many people actually still play it. If this game didn't have the name civilization on it it would never have even left the shelves.
        You're just simply offensive...

Why thank you. While you're at it why don't you call me arrogant too because you know I care so much.

This reminds me. I have a 10th HS reunion coming up in a few months. I'm sure I'll run into a few people that are desperately trying to recapture their glory years.

Typical fanboy response. Downplay everything as "UR STRATEGY NO WORK NO MORE UR JUST MAD U SUXORZ!" or "U JUST MAD U RNT TEH BEST NO MORE LOLZ". Good to see you proved me wrong in every respect. Once you actually start playing MP and you get some experience then maybe we can talk about the massive amount of flaws in the game.

It's just the same ****ing thing over and over again with you guys. It's like you actually believe that if you say it enough times everyone is going to believe it. You can't prove me wrong so you result to stonewalling. Were you guys beta testers too?

SLD, what is the exact problem you're having? Strategic resource placement is random?

                          Big fsckin' deal.

Deal with it. I played an MPgame the other day and I didnt have horses....OR copper...OR iron......at all the entire game...... I lost... WOW!!! I didn't come on the Enterweb and whine about the game being unfair....

Some of us come on here because they like to win and talk **** in a computer game. I'm not somebody that comes on here to make friends and play for the sake of a game. Computer games, to me, suck for the most part with the exception of a couple. The fact that you can't dominate in this game and that this game isn't really about skill is very disappointing to me because it becomes difficult to talk **** when you are eeking out your wins by 500 points. Not to mention that the game is just ****ing boring as hell and gives the distinct impression of slogging through mud. I could overlook the slow gameplay, poor interface, and idiotic combat system if there were at least the possibility that I could gain a lead over someone. Instead I'm reduced to seeing if I can pull out the win through points unless my very early rushing works or I can somehow get catapults fast enough to build a stack and kill him before he starts massing catapults to rape my attacking stacks. Once both people have catapults then only a complete idiot is going to die to an attacking force because while you're whittling down my city defenses I'll rape your stack with my own catapults and units. Seriously, who came up with the ****ing cap system in this game? Are you a communist? Do you not like it when people are better than you so we must bring everyone down to 1 level? I feel like I'm being punished every time I try to gain a lead.

It is rare that I actually reply to posts like this; I generally let them speak for themselves. However, this thread has confirmed my opinion that Civ4 is far superior to Civ2, precisely because it's got this guy so riled. To explain:

I bought Civ2 on the day it came out, opened it up, looked at the unit stats, and said "Howitzers seem unbalanced; surely you could sweep the map with these?" This turned out to be true - an obvious imbalance that shouldn't appear in a game claiming to be strategy. Civ2 is chock full of these (most a bit less obvious!) and it's clear that StarLightDeath is a master of them. He has found the "magic keys" that unlock Civ2 and can thus thrash anybody who hasn't.

What's clear is that he hasn't found them for Civ4 yet, and boy does that annoy him.

The funny thing is that there are no "magic keys" to civ4. I'm 46-5 on the ladder and I was in the top clan. Every other top player says the exact same thing, there is no secret to this game. If you aren't playing Mp with the top players then don't bother talking to me about this because you don't know what the **** you are talking about. For your information, no MP game ever went to howitzers so who cares? If you buy a game to sit there and play SP against a moronic AI then you are beyond hope. I can't imagine sitting there playing against something that isn't human. What a complete and total waste of time, as if computer games weren't already a big enough waste of time.
